  Acknowledgments

When I began writing this book in 2016, I set out to write a story that would speak to those of us who have often struggled with self-worth. We’ve all made mistakes, but some of us carry the guilt from those mistakes like a boulder chained to our ankle. We often over-identify with our mistakes, feeling like our worst moments define us. As Adam Parker from the Shattered Hearts Series once said, “It’s not our mistakes that define us. It’s the lessons we learn that show our true character.”

Huge thank you to my beta readers: Paula Jackman, Cathy Archer, Kristin Shaw, Sarah Arndt, Erin Fisher, and Beverly Cindy. This book has a conventional Cinderella storyline, told through the point of view of unconventional characters with modern problems, and these girls never failed to keep me in check. They saw me through the most difficult period of my writing career and I will be forever grateful.

Thank you to Tamara Paulin for being there with positive words and the occasional reality check when needed.

Big thanks to my editor, Jessica Anderegg of Red Adept Publishing. Thank you for those extra eight days! And, as always, thank you for not being afraid to call me out on the issues I’d prefer to ignore.

Huge thanks to my copy editor, Marianne Tatom.

Thank you to all the bloggers who shared the release! And a big thank you to Alyssa Garcia of Inkslinger PR for making this launch utterly painless. And to all the bloggers and readers who took the time to read the book, post your reviews, and still take the time to cheer me on and pimp the shit out of my books. You are what makes this indie book community thrive. Keep supporting the indie authors you love and we’ll keep writing the romance books you love to read.

To the readers who have messaged me and shared your excitement for the release of this book and your frustration with my extended break, thank you for your kindness and for the occasional kick in the ass. Depression sucks, and it’s even harder to deal with when you lose someone close to you. It took a while for me to come out of my fog, but words cannot express how much your messages meant. Thank you for taking time out of your day to think of me and reach out to me. Your enthusiasm lit my path during a very dark time.

To Arielle, for helping me develop the idea for this book and for being the backbone of my support system.
