He pulled away and turned to leave. Lily was speechless.
Before he closed the door behind him, she called out, “Wait, what’s your name?”
He turned around slowly and said, “Beckett.”
With that, he was gone.
Immediately, she called Jonathan Green, the only person left in the world that she trusted. She left out the part about the vampire, but told him that she needed a security team immediately. Jonathan asked if she wanted him to come over. He was worried about her wellbeing and nervous for her to be alone.
When she declined, he insisted on sending someone right away to protect her. “When he gets there, just let him inside.”
“Okay. Thank you, Jonathan.”
She hung up the phone.
Chapter 2
Within thirty minutes, a knock at the door made her jump. She went to the peephole and peered out. A tall man with short dark hair dressed in a suit was on the other side.
“Who is it?”
“My name is Tom. Jonathan sent me. I’m heading up your security detail.”
Lily had a strange feeling, as if she shouldn’t let the man inside. She unlocked the door, right at the moment that her phone buzzed, indicating a text. It was Jonathan, but he was texting her from his business phone, not his personal phone.
My phone was stolen. Whatever you do, don’t open the door for anyone.
It was too late. With the sound of the lock unlatching, the man pushed in the door and, just like Beckett, immediately bared his fangs.
A loud swoosh came through the doorway and the suited vampire was pinned against the wall. Beckett held the second vampire up by his neck. His biceps were bulging from beneath his white t-shirt. Amid her heavy panicked breathing, Lily found it hard not to be taken aback by his incredible strength.
“You’re going to want to leave,” Beckett demanded to the other vampire as he held him against the wall by his neck.
The second vampire had a look of recognition in his eyes and he immediately looked fearful. “Beckett, I had no idea she was yours. I was hired. Please, I’m so sorry.”
“Just get out of here. Put word out that no one else can take this job. Her life is in danger, and I am counting on you to put the others on alert to protect her. Understood?”
“Yes, Your Highness. You can count on me.”
Beckett let go of the other vampire, who then rushed from Lily’s penthouse.
Beckett turned to Lily, almost casually. “Someone really wants you dead.”
“I… I don’t know why,” she said between sobs.
She had nearly crumpled into the corner where the suited vampire had left her. Beckett walked over and put an arm around her, helping her over to the couch.
“Well, I’ll stay here for now to keep you safe. At least until we figure out who’s trying to kill you.”
“Why?” asked Lily, not understanding why Beckett was so invested in her welfare.
“You want me to leave?” he asked with raised brows.
“No! I just don’t understand why you want to help me.”
“I don’t either,” was all he said.
They both sat quietly for a few minutes, allowing Lily to release her final tremors of fear and regain her composure.
“Can I ask you something?” she finally cautioned, but she didn’t wait for him to respond. “Why was he so scared of you?”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “I’m more powerful than him.”
“Okay…” Lily didn’t want to press the conversation if he didn’t want to talk, but she felt defeated. She was dealing with so many unknowns.
He sighed. “If you really want to know, my father was the original vampire. He has only ever turned sixteen humans into vampires over the course of ten-thousand years. All vampires have originated from my siblings and me. We rule over all the other vampires.”
“You know that sounds ridiculous, right?”
He shrugged. “I guess it does, but it doesn’t make it any less true.”
“Well, I’m glad you’re staying,” said Lily as her blue eyes fell to Beckett’s soft lips. “At least, I think I’m glad you’re staying.”
Beckett lifted her chin before gently brushing his lips against hers.
“There’s just something about you, Lily. I’m drawn to you. I don’t know how to describe it, but its as if I need you, and need to protect you.”
He pressed his lips to hers again, this time harder.
When she reluctantly pulled away, Lily asked, “You weren’t so eager to take it further when you were here earlier. Are you sure you want to do this?”
His gaze moved from her lips, to her chest, and down to the crease of her tight jeans. When his eyes traveled back up her body, and he once again gazed into her alluring blue spheres. He embraced her with both arms, moving his hands down to cup her buttocks and pull her onto his lap.
Lily kept her eyes closed, relishing the moment. The man that held her wasn’t like anything she had ever imagined. She stopped wondering where he came from and the fact that he was originally sent there to kill her. She felt safe in his arms, and all she knew was that she wanted him and he wanted her. She had never been more certain of anything else in her life.
Their exchange was passionate and intimate, sweet and steamy. The wide breadth of feelings, emotions and sensations changed with every second. She had never felt so alive, as if everything in her life had happened in order to lead her to this moment.
A fire erupted within her as he picked her up and carried her to the bedroom. Aware of her pounding heart, Lily wondered if the sound of her blood pumping through her veins impacted him sexually. Did it arouse him?
Yes, he’s definitely aroused, concluded Lily.
Beckett set her down, pressing her against the bed post as they both stood next to the bed. He lifted her tank top up and over her head, and pulled her in close by the bare skin of the small of her back. His lips parted and he opened her mouth with his tongue before kissing her deeply.
His kisses trailed along her neck as he gently pushed her back onto the bed. He crawled on top of her, caging her in with his solid, hulking body. His mouth cupped over her breasts, giving one nipple attention, then moving to the other breast to stimulate her other nipple with flicks of his tongue. Every touch drove her wild. She bit her lip, eagerly awaiting what would happen next.
His kisses moved down, until he reached the sensitive area just below her naval. He looked up at her with bared fangs, which made her wonder about his intentions. He ripped open the button of her pants with his teeth and quickly slid them off.
With the palm of his hand, he rubbed her throbbing mound through her pink cotton panties, while she moved her hips with every caress. He lowered his face between her legs, and kissed her inner thigh while he slipped a finger under her panties and into her soft, warm sex. He bent his finger gently and massaged her g-spot, eliciting intense waves of pleasure. He continued kissing her thighs and she felt his teeth graze against her bare skin.
Her breath became more erratic as the sensations continued to build; she was on the precipice of orgasming.
Beckett inhaled deeply before piercing the delicate skin of her inner thigh with his fangs, which gave her an intense release. The walls of her sex hugged his finger in an undulating motion, but it didn’t stop. The pulsing sensation of release kept going, far longer than she had ever experienced. Her heart was about to explode it was pumping so fast.
He raised his head from between her thighs and licked the droplets of blood hanging from the corner of his mouth.
“You’re delicious,” he said, as he bent his head back between her thighs and ripped off her pink panties with his teeth. He brushed his tongue over her slit, making her giggle.
Beckett moved off the bed and slowly unbuttoned his pants while he slipped off his shoes, not breaking eye contact with Lily. After stepping out of his pants, he ripped off his shirt, revealing an iconically chiseled body. He climbed onto the bed and straddled
Lily, who took his vampiric cock into her hand. Firm, long strokes elicited a growl from deep within his throat. She placed his member between her breasts, and pushed them together as he pumped slowly, obviously enjoying the sensations of her hot, dewy skin.
He moved from his straddled position and guided Lily up onto her hands and knees so he could take her from behind. He massaged her ass before guiding himself into her.
He took it slow, allowing her to adjust to his immense size. “You’re so tight.”
He pushed in and out of her wet core at a slow pace, being gentle but firm. The more he stroked, the more she wanted it hard and fast.
“Faster,” she rasped, letting him know that the size of his cock gave her pleasure, not pain.
Soft sounds escaped her as he pounded into her over and over. Both of his hands grasped her hips tightly, guiding her movements to match his. She leaned down, grabbing desperately for a pillow. She buried her head into the soft pillow, biting it to keep from screaming and lifted her bottom up in an angle that increased the intensity for them both.
She was once again on the verge of an orgasm, when he pulled out and used his fingers to gather juices from her center to moisten the area around her anus. He licked his finger and applied pressure.
Lily turned her head, looking over her shoulder, and whispered, “Give it to me.”
A broad mischievous smile appeared on his face as he inserted a finger into her anus, then two fingers, getting her ready for his length. He pressed the tip of his erection to the point of entrance, pushing it in slowly, inch by inch.
At first, there was a sharp pain, which lessened each time he filled her. Their hips moved in a perfect, slow unison motion. She wanted to cherish every sensation and every feeling of each nerve awakening, bringing forth foreign sensations that pulsed through the center of her femininity.
“Beckett,” she gasped.
“Lily,” he growled, quickening his thrusts.
He reached around and stimulated her front perfectly, shooting an intensity through her which she’d never known possible. She couldn’t hold on any more. Lily yelled out in an impassioned groan, which Beckett echoed as if in response. She rocked her hips into his one final time before shattering around him, her thighs quivering on each side of his body.
He pulled out, and spilled his seed on the small of her back before collapsing down on the bed next to her. He sat up and grabbed his shirt, which was lying on the floor and wiped off her back, giving her ass a quick slap. They collapsed onto one another breathing in recovery. After a minute, Lily began laughing.
“Come. Let’s go take a shower.”
“Round two?” asked Lily.
“You’re reading my mind,” he said as they jumped up and he playfully chased behind Lily to the shower.
Chapter 3
After a morning of unrelenting passion, they finally left the house to grab some lunch.
“Don’t you eat?” asked Lily, noticing Beckett hardly touched his meal.
“Only for pleasure. It doesn’t provide nourishment.”
Lily had more questions. “How can you walk in the sunlight? I thought the sun was deadly to your kind.”
“It is deadly, but not to my father or my siblings. Each time vampires are created, their powers decrease. The further they are from the original bloodline, the less immune they are to sunlight, holy water, and wooden stakes to the heart. Only the vampires turned by my father can walk in the sun.”
They spent hours at the café getting to know one other. Each time he spoke, Lily felt her attraction to Beckett grow. He seemed to feel the same. With each conversation, he leaned in, hanging on her every word, smiling as if on cue.
“I’ve never met someone who makes me feel like you do,” Beckett admitted.
“Me neither,” Lily responded with coy honesty.
They spent the rest of the afternoon at Millennium Park, taking in the sights and enjoying the warm, summer weather.
As the sun began to set, Beckett’s phone rang. He picked up and excused himself. Lily sat on bench watching him as his posture turned stiff and rigid.
When he returned, he said, “I need to go somewhere quickly. Do you have somewhere you can go for an hour so that you’re not alone?”
“Yes, I can go to Jonathan’s house.”
“Great. I’ll drop you off, and I will be back for you soon.”
Lily sat in Jonathan’s house, swirling her glass of merlot he had poured her as they discussed the attacks on her.
“I just don’t understand. Why would anybody want me dead?” she asked Jonathan as tears fell, mixing with the legs of the wine that ran down the inside of her glass.
“The world is full of terrible people, Lily. I am sorry you didn’t realize that sooner,” Jonathan answered, with a spine-chilling tone. As he turned to face her, she noticed his demeanor change.
Lily looked up at Jonathan with a furrowed brow, trying to understand what he was insinuating. Before she could take it all in, Jonathan lunged at her with open hands, reaching for her neck as if to strangle her.
“Jonathan, what are you doing? How dare you!” she screamed, fending him off.
“Oh, I dare, little girl. You are spoiled, weak, and I’m tired of sharing my hard-earned profits with you. How did you manage to get away from two hitmen?”
Lily jumped up and pushed him back, managing to escape him briefly. “My father started this company; not you! He wanted me to have it, and you have no right to take what is mine! And that includes my life!”
Jonathan once again flew towards Lily, and she opened her palm to slap his face. He intercepted her attempted assault with his forearm and once gain moved in to wrap his hands around her neck.
As he secured a firm hold around her throat, she realized that he didn’t intend to relent. The air left her lungs and Lily gasped with each labored breath. Her vision started fading in and out, and she didn’t notice that Jonathan had shifted one gripping hand away from her encircled throat. A moment later a sharp pain pierced her stomach. She looked down to see blood pouring from a wound. She looked up to Jonathan, who held a knife in the air.
“If the hitmen can’t kill you, I certainly can. Did you know that your father left all your shares to me in the event that you died without an heir? You didn’t know that, did you?” He grabbed both her arms and pinned them above her head, while his knees pinned her body, letting her bleed out while he made the acidic declaration that had built up in him for years.
“Why Jonathan? My father cared about you. He trusted you,” she gasped with renewed adrenaline, looking down at her bleeding stab wound.
“He never truly appreciated me, so I had to make him pay.”
“He gave you ten percent of the company. You’re worth millions!” screamed Lily.
Jonathan narrowed his eyes.
His words rung in her ears, I had to make him pay.
“Wait, you had to make him pay? Did you have him killed?” Renewed tears of anguish and anger springing forth. Each word she spoke was painful and strained as she felt her life leaving her body, but she needed answers.
Jonathan smirked, providing his affirmative answer.
“You sent men to kill me, too?” she asked, confused, her mind desperately trying to make sense of everything. “But, you tried to protect me. You said your phone was stolen and told me to not open the door when I was attacked the second time.”
“Just an alibi, Lily. Of course I sent a second one when the first one couldn’t do the job.”
Lily slipped in and out of consciousness. She couldn’t hold on much longer.
A loud crash sounded from the front door. Lily flinched at the sound and before she knew what was happening, Jonathan was lifted into the air and thrown against the wall with a loud thud.
Lily opened her eyes and saw Beckett pounce on top of Jonathan. Then with a quick, seamless movement, he snapped the man’s neck. Beckett turned to look at Lily, and she took in a clear view of his crystal eyes before h
er own eyes fluttered closed again.
“No, Lily. Oh God, no.”
It was the last thing she heard. She was floating through darkness and an inviting white light was ahead. She reached for it, but was instantly pulled back into her own body.
Her eyes popped open, as she gazed into the soulful eyes of her rescuer. His face was damp and full of anguish.
“I never wanted to turn you, Lily. This isn’t what I wanted for you, but I couldn’t let you die. I wasn’t ready to let you go.”
Lily’s mind raced, her thoughts clearing as life began pumping through her once more. She brought her hands to her stomach, scared to assess the damage of being stabbed. Nothing. Her stomach was intact. Something else surprised her. She was naked, hidden under a plush duvet. She moved two fingers to her neck, to feel for her pulse to confirm she was alive.
Nothing. She didn’t have a heartbeat.
Lily looked at Beckett, confused and scared as she gazed around the room, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings.
He took her hand in his, forcing her attention to return to his grieving face. “Lily, please forgive me, I didn’t want to change you.”
“You mean, I’m... I’m a…”
“Yes, you’re a vampire.”
“But, how?”
“You were going to die. I gave you my blood to drink. The transformation doesn’t take long. I brought you back to my house and waited for you to wake up. I bathed you as you transformed, since you were soaked in blood.”
“What about Jonathan?”
“He’s gone. His remains are gone. You won’t need to worry about him again.”
“Where did you go? And how did you know to come back for me so soon?”
“When I originally got this job, I didn’t know who had ordered the hit on you. One of my men found a guy that knew who was trying to kill you. I had to force the information from him, but as soon as he told me, I hurried to rescue you. I’m just glad I got there in time to save you.” His eyes lowered again. “Well… I didn’t save your life, but I saved your existence. Lily, forgive me.”
