“Keegan, thank you, but you don’t owe me anything. I had fun. Let’s leave it at that. Besides, I need the job.”
“I’m not asking; I am telling you. Go get your things. I’ll handle getting you a job.”
“I’m not working for you,” she said with alarm. “You’ve seen me naked. And… you shoved beads up my ass.”
He laughed loudly. “Fair enough. My brother owns Hanover Technologies. I’ll call him in the morning. I’m sure he can line up some sort of job for you.”
Realizing most women don’t get these kinds of breaks, Fiona nodded her head in agreement. She walked indoors and threw all her belongings into a suitcase.
Everything I own fits in one small bag. Let’s see what he has to say about that.
When she returned to the car, the driver was waiting to open the door for her. She sat back down next to Keegan.
“You ready? I’ve made reservations for you at the Ritz. It’s been paid up for six months. Room service will go on my credit card while you’re there, so make sure you get enough to eat.”
He was too good to be true. “Why are you doing this for me?”
“I don’t know,” he answered honestly.
After arriving at the hotel and dropping her off at her room, Keegan started to walk away.
“Don’t you want to come in?” questioned Fiona.
“No. I’ll be back here at noon tomorrow. We’re meeting with my brother.”
Chapter 3
Fiona didn’t know what to expect. Keegan was a force to be reckoned with, so she assumed his brother would be as well. Her insecurities were getting the best of her and she felt way more vulnerable than she had at the S&M club.
She took one final look in the mirror and smoothed down some flyaway hairs from her blonde tresses. A quick application of lipgloss, and she was ready to go.
Keegan was waiting for her in the lobby and smiled when he saw her.
“You look beautiful. Now, I must warn you about my brother, Augustus. He’s all business, so don’t expect a warm reception from him. I told him a little bit about you and he told me that he might have a filing job or something in the mailroom.”
“But you know nothing about me. How do you know what skill set I have?” Fiona countered, upset that he just assumed all she could handle was a filing job.
“You were working at the front desk of a hostel. I didn’t think… Nevermind. What are your skills?”
Why can’t I ever leave well enough alone? I’m probably annoying him. I should be grateful that he is helping me at all.
“I know I’m just a foster kid, but I did go to college. I have a degree in accounting, plus, I’m really good at graphic design.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Beautiful and smart. I’m lucky I found you.”
He helped her into the waiting car and they zoomed away.
The interview was short and Keegan was grateful Augustus had agreed to the meeting. Keegan stayed in the room to make sure Augustus behaved.
Fiona was a pro. She answered questions and demonstrated she actually did have ample accounting knowledge to take on a junior position.
When the meeting was complete, Augustus asked Fiona to wait in the lobby so he could quickly catch up with his brother.
“Keegan, I’m not going to hire her.”
Shocked, Keegan questioned Augustus’ reasoning.
Augustus bit the end of his pen, and stared at his brother for a minute. “Why don’t you hire her? Your real estate business makes more money than Hanover Technologies.”
“I can’t hire her if I’m going to keep fucking her,” said Keegan with a shrug.
Augustus laughed. “I’m not hiring her because you’re doing more than having sex with her. You like her, and I am not getting in the middle of another one of your crazy relationships. You’re on your own.”
“What are you talking about?” Keegan yelled. “I don’t… she’s not… That’s not even…” he couldn’t finish the sentence.
Augustus was right.
Keegan didn’t even say goodbye as he waked to the lobby to meet Fiona. He’d have to come up with another plan.
This girl is a survivor. You need to cut ties. Let her live for six months at the Ritz, and then she can figure it out on her own. Wait… No. I can’t do that… He couldn’t even win a battle in his mind.
She had no family and nobody to take care of her. He couldn’t just write her off.
Fiona sat in the lobby on the sleek white couches with her hands folded in her lap.
“So…?” she asked eagerly.
“I’m taking you back to your hotel for now,” he said, and grabbed her hand.
On the way to the hotel, he didn’t talk and he sensed Fiona’s uneasiness as she fidgeted and kept looking at him like she wanted to say something.
The driver pulled in front of the Ritz to drop them off and quickly jumped out to open the door for Keegan and Fiona. Keegan stepped out and extended his hand to Fiona. She held his strong hand as they walked to the elevator.
As soon as the metal doors of the elevator closed, Keegan pushed Fiona against the wall and kissed her fervently, relieving the sexual tension that had built up all afternoon.
Fiona’s hand groped his manhood through his pants, bringing back to life the bulge he had spent the past few hours trying to keep under control. It took no effort to get him fully erect, his member pressing tightly to the fabric of his pants, begging to be released.
With hungry eyes, Fiona unbuckled his pants and shrugged down his boxers to let his erection spring free. A smile spread across her pink glossy lips as she sank down to her knees in front of him.
Fiona must have realized they had limited time before they reached their destination, so there was no teasing or taking her time. She grasped the base of his shaft and slid the tip into her mouth. She grazed it against her tongue and then took in the full length in one quick movement.
Keegan groaned and reached to the panel next to the door and pressed the button to stop the elevator. He definitely needed more time to finish what he started. He backed up to the wall for support.
She bobbed her head eagerly as she applied pressure to his member with her hands, but allowed her tongue to do most of the work. Keegan moaned loudly, tossing his head back against the wall. Fiona moved her head down, pointing his cock toward the ground as she continued to move her head.
His legs trembled and his fingers ran through her blonde locks. It was too much for him. Keegan thrust his hips away from her face, pulling his cock from her mouth. Helping her to her feet, he hoisted her up onto the railing on the wall and faced her, wrapping both of her legs around his waist.
Keegan buried his face in her shoulder as his other hand moved into her skirt and pulled her thong to the side. He roughly pressed his manhood into her pussy, her legs draped over the creases of his arms and her body being held to the wall by his. Strands of her hair fell to his face and tickled the skin of his shoulder. Fiona breathed into his ear, completely consumed by the movement of his hips.
Keegan was well endowed, making it easy for him to overtake her completely, pushing deep inside her with the slightest thrusts.
“I’ve wanted to do this all afternoon,” he whispered into her ear.
“Me too,” she replied, her face completely flushed from arousal.
Keegan kissed and sucked on the base of her neck as he moved his hips roughly and quickly. He felt his fangs press against his gums, and he struggled to keep them compressed.
The last thing I need is for her to know I’m a vampire.
Freeing one of his arms, Keegan reached into the neckline of her blouse and caressed one of her nipples, gently rubbing it between his thumb and index finger. Her sex clamped around his cock, and Fiona moaned loudly as he slammed into her methodically, bringing her to her peak.
She didn’t have time to come down from her first orgasm, before she screamed, “Oh my god, don’t stop!”
He felt her wild movements as sh
e built up to another orgasm. Keegan thrust into her vigorously, pinching her nipple. Fiona climaxed as he did, wetness dripping from her sex.
Moving his head from her neck, Keegan kissed her deeply and lovingly as he helped lower her to the floor. He straightened her skirt for her with a smug look on his face before he pressed the button to make the elevator go.
Tucking in his shirt and buttoning his pants, Keegan cleared his throat and put an arm around her.
He kissed the top of her head again.
“I hope you don’t think I’m done with you,” he whispered into her hair.
Keegan left her at the door to her hotel room and told her he’d be back in ten minutes. He just needed to make a quick phone call.
Still elated from the elevator adventure, Fiona smiled widely as she walked into her luxurious room. She twirled around, before sweeping her hand across the soft, smooth duvet cover.
I can’t believe my luck. He’s hot, sweet, rich, and nice. I’m living in a fantasy.
She walked to bathroom, wanting to clean up before Keegan returned from his phone call. Fiona stopped in her tracks when she heard a loud thump from the closet.
Thinking that maybe the ironing board fell, she whipped open the doors, only to come face-to-face with a handgun.
A loud voice said, “Go sit on the bed”
Fiona felt rooted to the floor. Her mind raced as she tried to comprehend what was happening.
“Now!” the loud voice demanded, pushing her backwards.
The force of the shove caused her to lose her balance and she fell to the floor. The man at the other end of the gun looked familiar, but she couldn’t place his face. He looked slightly Italian with slicked-back black hair, olive skin, and dark eyes. He was tall, brawny, and looked strong, and smelled like a mixture of sweat and cheap cologne. She didn’t know too many people in New York, but still, she knew the man from somewhere.
She stood up, trying not to make eye contact. Slowly, she backed up to the bed until she felt the mattress against the back of her legs. She lowered herself onto the bed.
The armed man threw her a manila envelope.
“Open it,” he ordered.
Fumbling with the envelope it dropped from her hands onto the bed because of her nerves.
“Hurry up!”
“I’m trying,” she said as tears formed on the brims of her lashes.
Reaching into the envelope she pulled out photos and immediately recognized them from her night of bliss with Keegan at the S&M club.
“Wh… where did you get these?” she said, looking into the face of the assailant.
The bouncer. He’s the bouncer from the club.
“It doesn’t matter where I got them,” the man boomed. “It only matters what you’re going to do with them.”
Fiona knew better than to ask any questions and just waited for the man to share his plan.
“When Mr. Hanover comes back, you’re going to demand that he gives you ten million dollars or else you’ll hand these over to the tabloids.”
What?! There’s no way. It will break his heart. He’s been so nice to me.
“Why would he ever believe me? How would I even get these?” she asked in a desperate panic.
“Why wouldn’t some poor girl like you try to blackmail him? You could be a pro for all he knows. He’s a powerful man with plenty of money. You just played him.”
She tried to think of a way to outsmart him. “It won’t work. Besides, Keegan’s not even here. We had a fight and he’s not coming back. I can’t help you even if I wanted to.”
A sinister laugh erupted from the man. “Girl, I’m not stupid. My partner works at the hotel. That’s how I got in your room and that’s how I know you’re lying.”
Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck!
The man’s phone chimed. He grabbed his cell from his back pocket and read the text message. He looked back up at Fiona.
“Mr. Hanover is coming back. Demand the money or the photos get published. Screw this up and I’ll put a bullet in his head, and then yours.”
Keegan walked in the door with a wide smile, calling out to her, “Fiona, I have something wonderful planned for tonight. I booked reservations at a new Italian place I’ve been meaning to try. I remember you saying you liked Italian food.”
He walked into the bedroom and the smile slowly diminished from his face. Fiona’s hands shook as she looked at Keegan. She couldn’t stop the tears from flowing.
“Fiona, what’s wrong? What happened?”
She quickly thought through all her options. This was all happening so quickly, she barely had time to think! Still, she sensed the gun pointing at them from behind the closet door and made a decision. She sucked in deep breath through her nose, stiffened her shoulders and put on a brave face. She held up the photos for him to see.
“I need ten million dollars or I’m handing these over to the tabloids.”
Eyeing the images, his facial expression betrayed his emotions. Confusion was quickly followed by hurt and betrayal. That look didn’t last long though, and a fury rose in him as he lifted his chin and puffed up his chest.
“That’s what you wanted? Money?” he stoically spat out. “Well, if I knew that is what you were after, you should have been up front. I’ve never paid a hooker before, but I guess there’s a first for everything. You may have been worth it.”
The words stung.
“I’m not a hooker, Keegan. How dare you say that!”
“Oh, what then, a con artist, with a little sex on the side? You have no idea what I would dare to do, little girl. You had me fooled, and I do not take kindly to that! I guess when accounting didn’t work out, you took up acting. Well I hope this one job ends up being worth it for you, because you will never work again anywhere in the public eye. I will make dammed sure of that.”
He eyed her angst-ridden face, as she stood opposite him, clutching the revealing photos, but not moving an inch otherwise. “I’ll get you the money, and then I suggest you leave New York. Immediately and forever.”
He turned to leave and strode toward the hotel room door, slamming it behind him. He pulled out his phone, but then stood still, recounting the events as he decided who best to call.
When he entered the hotel bedroom, Fiona’s eyes were already teary and red-rimmed. He thought back to the meeting earlier that day. She definitely had the credentials to get a legitimate job, and nothing about her had seemed slightly off since he’d met her. But then again, that’s the sign of a true professional. He’d lived long enough to know that scammers came in all shapes and sizes. Still, something seemed off. There was no way he was giving a con artist ten million dollars, but he needed to be sure he was right before he did anything rash.
Keegan reentered the hotel room and made his way back to where Fiona sat. She was still sitting on the bed as if frozen in shock.
Keegan inhaled through his nose deeply, as if sniffing an unfamiliar smell.
When she saw him, a small whimper escaped Fiona’s throat, which quickly turned to uncontrolled sobs. She tried to control them because she didn’t want the man in the closet to shoot Keegan, but the fear, adrenaline and panic were all too much.
“Fiona,” Keegan said firmly, which got her attention.
She looked up and gazed into his green eyes, her lower lip trembling though she was trying to keep up her tough appearance. He raised his eyebrows and cocked his head slightly, silently asking her if she was okay.
Fiona understood immediately and moved her eyes in the direction of closet, hopefully letting Keegan know that they weren’t alone.
Without hesitation, Keegan took a large stride and ripped the closet doors off their hinges. Before the extortionist could react, Keegan grabbed the bouncer by the neck and lifted him into the air.
Fiona could do nothing but stare in disbelief as she watched Keegan transform into a monster, with long, sharp fangs extending from his gums. His behavior became animalistic as Keegan ripped into the throat of the m
an he held in mid-air.
“Wait!” screamed Fiona.
Keegan stopped and looked in her direction. The look on his face frightened her. He was a killer, but she instinctively knew that he wasn’t going to hurt her.
I’ve trusted him before, and I have to trust him now. The thought gave her courage.
“He’s not alone,” she yelled. “His partner works at the hotel, which is how he got into my room.”
Keegan tore his eyes from Fiona and looked at the bouncer. “You heard her. Tell me who helped you and I might let you live.”
A gurgling noise sounded from the assailant’s throat as he spoke. “Aaron. The concierge. Please…”
Keegan finished what he started and took the life from the bouncer, dropping his lifeless body to the floor.
“I lied. You don’t get to live,” he spat at the man’s body on the floor.
Keegan didn’t even look in Fiona’s direction, but instead walked into the bathroom and washed his face.
When he came out, he said, “Get your things. We need to leave.”
Fiona packed her bag in thirty seconds and left the hotel room with Keegan without asking questions.
He walked her to the elevator and said, “My driver will be waiting for you out front. Get in the car and don’t speak to anybody. You’re coming home with me where you’ll be safe.”
With that, Keegan disappeared.
Coming out of a haze, Fiona began to process what just transpired.
A vampire. He’s a vampire. Oh my god. What have I gotten myself into? Should I run? Would he come after me?
She walked through the lobby and covered her face with her hands, trying to hide her emotions from anybody who might look in her direction. She walked outside to the now familiar car, the driver opened the door and she crawled inside.
The driver got back in the driver’s seat then lowered the partition window down and handed her a box of tissue before raising the window back up. The gesture made Fiona smile.
Two minutes later, the door opened again and Keegan sat down next to her.
