I handed my bouquet off to Tamara, who gave me a reassuring smile. I took Drake’s hands in mine, and I couldn’t keep the cheesy grin off my face.
“Hey,” he whispered.
“Hey.”
“You look gorgeous.”
“So do you.”
After that, it was the minister’s turn. Funny how quickly it all went by. I kept wanting to beg him to slow down, to let me savor it. My handsome groom, the happy, loving faces smiling at us. The feeling that everything was right, all of it, even if we’d hurried to get it all together. That was the way it was meant to be, obviously, because the day couldn’t have been more perfect. My life couldn’t have been more perfect.
It was with that complete joy in my heart that I repeated the vows as the minister recited them—we hadn’t had time to write our own, and I didn’t think Drake would be into it. I had to pick my battles, and the navy suit had caused enough drama. I was willing to let go of the personal vows.
Then the ring was on my finger, and I slid Drake’s on his. It was all happening so fast. I wanted to hold the moment, clasp it forever, never let it pass me by. But it was gone, the way moments tended to slip through our fingers the tighter we held on to them.
And then it was over. We were married, officially. Finally.
“You may kiss the bride,” the minister murmured. Drake lifted the little veil from in front of my face and kissed me—sweetly, lovingly. It meant more than any passionate, soul-melting kiss could ever mean.
The minister smiled at us, raising his arms. “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my privilege to introduce Mr. and Mrs. Drake Collins.”
Everybody stood, even Jack, clapping and cheering. I took Drake’s hand, then reached over to Tamara for my bouquet.
“You ready?” he asked, beaming.
I took a deep breath. “Always,” I replied.
