#BABYMAKER: A Medical Romance Page 5

  I nodded.

“Sure, take your time. But the offer expires at midnight tonight.”

“What?” she asked, eyes snapping my way in shock. “So soon?”

“Sorry sweetheart,” I said apologetically. “I just can’t have something like this hanging over my head as I try to go about my life. So it expires at midnight. Deal or no deal, it’s up to you.”

And with that her cheeks flushed.

“I need more time to think,” she protested. “This is all so sudden.”

  My head nodded.

“I get it, but sometimes it’s better not to think,” I said persuasively, taking one soft hand in mine. “Sometimes it’s better just to go with the flow. After all, you’ve put a lot of time and planning into your life, and things haven’t gone perfectly. So why not try a different method? Why not let your life follow a path that’s a little unorthodox, and see what happens? Maybe you’ll like it,” I suggested.

And I could see that that hit home because Connie jerked a little, the girl sitting up straight.

“Okay, I’ll think about it,” she said slowly. “I’ll let you know before midnight tonight.”

“Sure,” I replied, leaning back like I didn’t have a care in the world. “Ask reception for my personal phone number as you leave, and sweetheart, one last thing I forgot to mention. You and the baby will never need anything financially if everything works out. I’m a generous man, and can provide for all your material comforts easily. That includes rent, food, the baby’s education, and anything else that might come up. So think about it, sweetheart. New York City is expensive, and with me, you’ll be taken care of for life.”

The brunette’s cheeks colored prettily as she stood. I could tell my offer had knocked her socks off, but at the same time, I was completely serious. After all, money means nothing to me now. I easily make enough to support a dozen kids, and if I had my way, the sweet female would become a mom over and over again … accepting my sperm in the best way possible.

  CHAPTER SEVEN

  Connie

What in the world was I thinking? I found myself on Dr. Roman’s doorstep later that night after getting his address from the receptionist.

Kathy had a knowing look in her eye when I asked for his contact information.

“Here’s Dr. Roman’s cell number,” she said in a business-like fashion, handing over a small piece of notepaper. I looked down dumbly, about to speak, but then my mouth snapped shut because she’d written down his home address as well. Evidently, the receptionist knew more than she let on.

So now I stood outside his building, completely intimidated by the giant granite structure. The building’s spire disappeared into the night and the gold lobby extravagant and intimidating at once. But there was no sense in beating around the bush. I was here to reject his offer, and at least I had the cojones to tell him in person.

With a deep breath, I pushed open the revolving door and stepped into the lavish lobby. Ornate woodwork decorated the ceilings, and what looked like hand-painted wallpaper lined the hallways. A huge spray of flowers decorated the front desk, behind which there was an elderly man in a bellhop uniform.

“Hello,” I said in a meek voice. Uck, that sounded terrible. So I straightened and try again. “Hello. Connie Newman to see Dr. Chase Roman.”

The bellhop nodded, gesturing to the elevator.

  “Go right up Miss.”

I strode across the marble entryway and waited for the bell to ding. On the outside, I looked like perfection. I’d taken especial care with my hair and make-up, even putting on a deep ruby lipstick to emphasize my full lips.

But inside, I was a mess because I was going to see Dr. Roman again. True, I was here to throw his offer back into his face and to tell him what an ass he was, but my heart still fluttered like a butterfly at the thought of seeing the handsome male again.

Because I have to admit that the offer had sounded tempting. He’d made it clear that he was financially, emotionally, and legally ready to enter into a transaction with me. Nor was he looking to box me out of the baby’s life. Instead, he wanted me to be a mother in full, taking care of the child and spending time with him as he grew.

But there was something missing from the picture-perfect scene he painted, and that was love. A romantic partner isn’t necessary anymore to have a child, but at the same time, I couldn’t stomach the reality of the so-called relationship he proposed. My child would be passed back and forth between two households like a chess piece, and that wasn’t what I wanted. The ache in my heart would be unbearable, knowing that there was no possibility of more.

So despite his promise of a luxurious life, I had to say no. For my self-esteem, my self-dignity, and my sense of identity, it was important to reject his offer and find my own way. It wasn’t going to be easy and I envisioned at least a couple more years of eating ramen in my ramshackle studio. But at least it was better than selling my soul to the devil, right?

At least I hoped so. Because as the elevator whooshed me up to the penthouse apartment, I started getting doubts. My heart pumped furiously, the air suddenly hard to breathe. New York City is a notoriously difficult place to earn a living, and maybe I could use some help. Maybe we could work out a deal of some sorts?

But no, this was wrong. Everything Dr. Roman had suggested was off the charts crazy, and I had to keep my head on straight. So when the doors hissed open, I stepped into the hallway and straightened my shoulders, taking a deep breath. I was here to throw egg on his face, and my morals weren’t going to slip just because he was physically irresistable.

  Brrring!

The chime rang and I steadied myself once more. It’s going to be okay, the voice in my head soothed. He’s just a man, after all.

But when the door opened, all thought flew out of my mind. Because oh god, but Dr. Roman was so handsome. Dressed casually in dark jeans and a black sweater, my mouth watered at the breadth of those shoulders. His black hair was brushed raffishly off his forehead, and bit of stubble graced his cheekbones.

Keep it steady, the voice in my head admonished. Don’t go crazy just because he’s a heavenly slice of man meat.

But I couldn’t stop my heart from pounding and my smile was weak.

“Hi,” I stammered. “Can I come in?”

A black brow arched, but he didn’t look surprised to see me at all, despite the fact that it was so late. With one smooth move, the man opened the door and stepped away, allowing me to enter his residence.

And I almost came to an abrupt stop then because his apartment was magnificent. A vaulted ceiling graced the living room, with a glittering chandelier positioned perfectly in the center. Floor to ceiling windows showed off moonlight glinting off the Hudson River, and white leather furniture was sprinkled about, spotless and pristine. What a change from the second hand used stuff in my apartment that I’d picked up on-sale from Goodwill.

“Oh, nice place,” I said breathily. This would never do, so I steadied my voice and spoke again. “What a gorgeous apartment.”

“Thanks,” rumbled Chase, those blue eyes glinting. “I did it myself.”

  My mouth opened in surprise.

“Really? You picked out all the decorations? Wow, that’s amazing.”

He grinned while lowering himself onto a white loveseat.

“Yep,” came that lazy drawl. “Now that I have my own practice, I have a lot more free time, so I’ve used it to good purpose. Instead of paying a designer thousands of dollars to decorate a place that they’ll never live in, instead I decided to do it myself. So this is what you get,” he said, gesturing to the lavish layout. “Although I have to say, it wasn’t that hard. When you have an apartment with good bones, just about anything looks amazing.”

I swallowed heavily, looking around again. Through an arched doorway, I could see a fancy chef’s kitchen with oak cupboards and what looked like a giant sub-zero refrigerator. Through another arch, I glimpsed a formal dining room with a mahogany table
and seating for a dozen guests. It was incredible. In NYC, most people live in postage-stamp sized apartments, and don’t even have room for a dining table. We eat with our plates in our laps in front of the TV most nights.

So clearly, Dr. Roman hadn’t been exaggerating when he mentioned his wealth. But I could see it more clearly now, from the priceless view through the windows to the paintings artfully arranged on the walls. Each one probably cost thousands of dollars, come to think about it.

But I couldn’t get carried away. I was on a mission, so I sat gingerly on one of the white couches, placing my purse beside me.

“I’m here to talk with you about your offer,” came my stiff voice.

“Ah yes,” drawled Dr. Roman, unfolding his big frame to stride to the kitchen for a moment. “I have a wine fridge in here,” he called out. “Can I offer you something? A red or a white?”

I swallowed. Maybe some alcohol would bolster my courage so I nodded.

“Yes please,” came my mewling voice. “A red would be great.”

And in a moment, Dr. Roman reappeared with two wine glasses filled with deep, burgundy wine. Oh wow. This had to be the expensive stuff because as he moved, it swirled gracefully.

“Thank you,” I said, taking a small sip. Hints of citrus and a rustic smokey flavor hit my tongue simultaneously. Definitely the good stuff. “I appreciate it.”

“Sure,” he drawled, lounging backwards and taking a sip of his own wine. “Now where were we?”

  I smiled shyly.

“Well, I wanted to talk with you about your offer,” were my hesitant words. “It’s very kind but I have to decline.”

  His brows raised.

“Really? Well, I have to say that I’m disappointed but of course, I respect your decision. You’re a grown woman who knows her way about the world. So thank you for letting me know.”

I gulped. That was it? He wasn’t going to scream and shout, or at least try to persuade me to change my mind?

“Well the thing is,” I began.

But Dr. Roman held one palm up.

“No, it’s okay,” he said. “I totally get it. You’ve had a couple hours to think things over and it’s not for you,” he shrugged. “Different strokes for different folks, and that’s the way the world turns. I’ve learned after four decades on this earth that you win some, you lose some, and you learn to let it go with peace, instead of agonizing about the whys and hows.”

But although he felt completely at ease, now I was having second thoughts. My brain whizzed this way and that, confusion making my heart beat hard.

“Well the thing is, I had some questions,” I said.

  His brows shot up again.

“I thought you already turned me down.”

“I did,” was my quick reply. “But I had some questions, and was hoping you could answer them.”

The billionaire lounged backwards, setting his glass down.

“Sure thing, but I don’t do this kind of stuff for my health,” he said. “It’s late and if you want answers, you’re going to have to give me something as well.”

I stilled because what did I possibly have to offer? I was a penniless twenty-five year old with a bad job and second-hand clothes. Compared to Dr. Roman, it was like putting a shabby second-grade art work next to a masterpiece.

  But I gulped and nodded.

“Okay sure,” was my slow reply. “Is there something I can do for you? Do you need back-up for your receptionists? I’m good at filing and organizing. I can definitely do that.”

Those blue eyes gleamed with an emotion that I couldn’t read.

“Naw, sweetheart, not that. You’re so innocent that it’s pretty funny, Connie. What I want is something you’ve never given a man before. Your innocence.”

  I gasped.

“I-I’m sorry?” I gasped. “What do you mean?”

The physican leaned forwards then, those azure eyes intent on my curvy form.

“Oh, I think you know what I mean Connie. That first night we met, I touched you in your most sensitive spot. And you held yourself open for me, remember? So I saw your hymen, sweetheart, that covering that was made for a man to break. And I want to rupture it for you.”

  My mouth dropped open again.

“But I thought we weren’t going to do the deal.”

“We’re not,” he said silkily, getting up from the white leather couch. “This is separate.”

“Bu-but why would you want to have sex with me if not to conceive?”

His grin became positively wolfish as he advanced.

“Because sweetheart, I have a lot to teach you. And you’ll find that sex can be for a lot of reasons other than reproduction. Give it a try, and you’ll find out. I promise you’ll love it.”

And suddenly, that big body was on me. I gasped in surprise at first, his movements as quick as a panther. But then utter heat took over and I melted into the doctor’s embrace. Strong arms held me close as I was pressed against a wall of hard, male chest, his mouth all-consuming.

“Oh,” I moaned against his lips. “Yes.”

Chase lifted his head a moment to look down into my eyes.

“See?” he said with amusement. “I knew you’d like it. Our first time together told me that, and sweetheart, admit it. You want me.”

By now, my body was on fire. Flames licked through my pussy, scorching upwards to my breasts. My nipples were tight and achy, and my giant bottom rubbed enticingly against his hand.

“Dr. Roman,” I gasped. “But you haven’t answered my questions yet.”

He lowered his head, capturing my mouth with those perfectly sculpted lips once more.

“Don’t worry, I will,” he promised. “After we’re done.”

And with that, the alpha male swept me into his arms, holding me close as he took the stairs one by one.

“You have stairs!” I gasped when our mouths parted for a moment. “I thought this was a penthouse.”

I could feel the rumble in his chest as the big man laughed.

“That’s right, pretty girl. This is a penthouse duplex, so I have the top two floors. The public spaces are on the bottom floor, but the top floor is for bedrooms. And you, sweetheart, are going on the bed.”

With that, he entered a massive bedroom and threw me onto the king-size mattress, my curves bouncing this way and that.

“Oh!” I squealed. “This bed is like a life raft!”

  He grinned.

“I’m a big guy, what can I say? I need the space.”

A giggle escaped my throat because it felt good to laugh with Chase, even if I’d originally come to throw egg on his face.

“So that’s it then?” I asked boldly. “We don’t go forward with the baby scheme but we’re still going to do this?”

His mouth crashed down on mine then, dominant and possessive.

“You’re full of talk, aren’t you?” he growled. “Let’s leave all that until later because right now, there are more important things to do.”

And with that, he began to remove my clothes. I’d worn my best stuff, and the minute my sweater was off, Chase began to pant.

“What is it?” I asked worriedly. “Is something wrong?”

“Naw,” he rasped, eyes devouring me whole. “You’re just so fucking beautiful. I have to have it.”

And with that, he literally tore my bra off, the soft material snapping under the firm grip.

“Oh!” I squealed. “That was expensive!”

It was true because as a girl with lush Double Ds, I have to get special bras with oversize cups and ribbon straps so that the weight doesn’t cut into my shoulders. My bras usually go for two hundred a piece, and that doesn’t include shipping.

But Chase wasn’t stopping. His hands were already at my skirt, his mouth at my ear.

“I’ll get you another,” he rasped hoarsely. “But I have to see you naked now.”

I sighed, loving his aggression. Because this is what it must feel like to belong t
o a man. Instinctively, my hips gyrated as he tore my skirt and panties off, the soft cotton coming apart with a rip. And then I was nude before him, creamy curves spilling this way and that, my sweet pink slit glistening under the low lights.

Chase literally couldn’t speak, that dark blue gaze roaming over the hills and valleys. But when he did find his voice, the hunger in it made my breath catch.

“Fuck,” was all he said. “Oh shit, you’re fucking beautiful.”

And with that I was flat on my back, legs spread. Oh my god, I’ve never been in this position before. Of course, guys have tried to touch me down there, but it’d been at the library where they slipped a hand under my skirt, only to be rebuffed. So to find myself nude and spreadeagle on the doctor’s bed made me feel so vulnerable, and yet wanted at once. Because it was clear the physician craved me desperately, so much that there was a telltale wet spot at his crotch.

“Let me help you with that,” I purred, looking into his eyes saucily. “There’s something I can do to make you feel good.”

“Oh there’s more than one thing you can do,” he growled, eyes flaring with lust. “But first things first. I want to taste you, so lean back and relax.”

And with that, the alpha male dove face first into my folds, licking and slurping at my pussy. It felt so good that I cried out, my back halfway arching up off the bed.

“Oh god!” I shrieked. “Yes, yes!”

Because this man was a master. Chase licked circles around my nub, and then bit it with a vengeance. Shock waves ran through my pussy, my insides liquefying with the dirtiness of it all. He trailed his tongue up the left side of my twat before circling my clit and then coming down the right side.

“Ooh!” I squealed, gyrating my hips involuntarily. “Oh god!”

But the alpha wasn’t done yet. Slowly, his tongue pushed itself into my hole, savoring the jucie that gushed down his throat even as my pink channel stretched to accommodate him.

“Fuck you taste good,” he panted. “So fucking sweet.”

But then the man stopped because his tongue had bumped up against something. I stilled for a moment, propping myself up on my elbows, eyes wide.
