“You have a name for this society?” Marge asked.

Ida Belle nodded. “In fact, one name keeps popping in my head. The Sinful Ladies Society.”

Marge repeated it several times. “I like it. Simple. Disarming. Sounds like we’d all be sitting around drinking tea and polishing silver.”

Gertie shrugged. “Doesn’t have the word, ‘hooker’ in it, so already I like the name.”

Marge smiled. “Hell, maybe we’ll even take over Aunt Louanne’s still. A gal running a city covertly needs a drink now and again.”

“Run the city covertly and become moonshiners? I can dig it,” Gertie said. “I’ll have to do something fun when I’m not at work teaching.” She scrunched her face and looked at Ida Belle. “Now, just to be clear. Just because we’d be unmarried doesn’t mean we can’t fool around with men.”

“As long as you can keep the fooling around and Society business separate, you can fool around as much as you like,” Ida Belle said.

“Good, because I have needs. Itches that need scratching, if you know what I mean.”

“Don’t we all,” Ida Belle said, an image popping up of the last time she and Walter scratched an itch.

Marge held up her hand. “Don’t want to hear about ‘em.”

Gertie ignored her. “So if Ryan O’Neill calls and says he wants to ravage me, I can still let him and be a member?”

“As long as you don’t marry him,” Ida Belle said.

Gertie sighed. “He’ll be disappointed, but I’ll be firm with him. No marriage.”

Ida Belle grinned. “I think we have a quorum. Ladies, the first meeting of the Sinful Ladies Society is now in session.”
