him so badly to say something, anything, to get me to stay, I
asked “Marcus, do you really want me to go?”
Sighing heavily, unable to even turn to look at me, hesitating,
almost fighting back the words that he wanted to say. He
replied, “have a safe trip Dom’ and I will see you on Monday!”
With burning tears, suddenly appearing in my heavy eyes,
trying to hold them back with everything that I had inside.
Feeling my heart break once more, knowing that this was it, it
was his last chance, breathless, I called out “bye Marcus.”
Walking towards our front door, closing it slowly behind me, I
heard him call out in the distance “bye Honey…”
Almost an hour later, after a painfully silent car ride, seated
next to Quinn, on board our flight. Drifting miles away,
feeling his hand take mine and his eyes focused on me, as
though he was assessing me closely. Removing his hand, to
place it firmly over my knee, squeezing it with reassurance,
sounding slightly concerned, he asked “are you sure that
you’re ok, honey? You’re really quiet. Don’t worry, we’ll be
there before you know it, just you and me. At the other side of the world. Thousands of miles away from everyone and
everything. I can’t wait to have you all to myself for the entire
weekend.”
When suddenly, as though a light had illuminated inside of
my head, a tiny spark had been set alight. With no clue where
it had even come from, or what had surprisingly alerted this
trail of thought. Realising that I couldn’t do this, it wasn’t fair
on either of us. I just couldn’t play pretend for a second
longer, I had to finally do what was right. Releasing my
seatbelt, standing before him, I smiled to myself. Feeling
relieved, yet so nervous, I replied “yeah Quinn, I’m fine. But
I’m so sorry, I really have to go.”
Charging down through the plane, making my way to the exit,
at great speed, before the doors to the jet were closed.
Hearing Quinn in pursuit behind me, calling out “Domini,
where are you going, we are about to take off.”
Turning to face him, with tears in my eyes, I replied “I’m
really sorry, but I can’t go with you. I don’t… Quinn, I… I
don’t love you.”
Watching him lower his head before me, in sheer pain and
desperation, he asked “it’s him, isn’t it? I knew it. I’ve seen it
between you, since day one. You’re in love with him, just as
much as he’s in love with you.”
Unable to even begin to find the words to try to answer,
feeling the tears begin to burn my eyes. Lifting my hand to
gesture to him goodbye, completely surprised by just how
easy he was making all of this. It was as though deep down he
already knew, he’d foreseen all of this happening from the
very beginning. Even though he was clearly broken and
defeated, he knew just as I did, that he couldn’t compete with
Marcus and what we shared.
Realising that there was nothing left to try and fight for, he was standing back and allowing me the space to leave.
Wanting to give him something, for him to at least know that
his actions hadn’t led to this sudden change of heart, he had
done absolutely nothing wrong. With tears cascading down
my face, I cried “Quinn you’re such an amazing guy, but
you’re not my guy. He really needs me right now and I have to
go to him.”
Fleeing the private jet, I raced down the runway, through the
airport, hailing a taxi, I rushed home. With only one thought
in my mind, to catch Marcus before he left, to go home and
contemplate the possibility of visiting his father.
Handing a fistful of money to the taxi driver, coming in hot, I
charged towards our building. Sprinting down through the
hallways and into our apartment, where it was clear to see
that he was gone.
With nothing left to lose, feeling my heart beat at a fast pace,
breathless, racing at a great speed towards our underground
garage, I caught a glimpse of him, walking towards his car.
Scared and frozen to the spot, unsure how to do this, because
I had never even contemplated getting this far.
Calling out to him, hearing my voice crack and echo
throughout the garage, watching him turn to face me. Feeling
so relieved that his entire face was overcome with joy, at the
sight of me stood before him. Sure, that it had been such a
long time, since I had last seen him smile. Charging towards
him, watching him drop his bag on to the floor, he raced
towards me. With a hint of excitement and confusion in his
eyes, lifting me up into his arms, caressing me closely, he
asked “is everything ok, honey what made you come back?”
Nodding slowly, feeling the biggest grin consume my entire
face. Blushing, with my cheeks burning bright red, biting my
lip so hard, I replied “I had to come back, I left something really important behind.”
Watching the bewilderment consume his entire face, with a
sparkle and a glimmer of hope in his eyes, he asked “what
honey, what did you leave behind?”
Gazing deep into his soul, reaching up on to my tiptoes, to the
base of his neck. He lowered his head, closing the space
between us, his body pressed firmly against mine, with our
lips almost touching. Feeling his heart beating at a fast pace,
along with the strength and familiarity of his loving and
protective embrace.
Unable to take my eyes off of him, knowing that right here
and right now, that this was our perfect moment. Absolutely
certain that he felt it too, I replied “you Marcus. I can’t fight it
anymore. I love you honey, it has always been you.”
The End.
