  And the court martial, along with the digital footage, was classified. UNIC took all the video. Later, Corgan heard that The Company paid off some people, and took it from UNIC.

  There were no appearances on talk shows; there were no medals. UNIC had decided it was all to be a secret. They were to tell no one.

  Corgan didn’t mind. He didn’t want to think about it, if he didn’t have to.

  Nate. Beresford. Julie. All the others… those eyeless alien countenances… the dead warriors on the tables… the screams…

  Corgan closed his eyes. Then he felt a pressure on his arm, fingers caressing his biceps…

  ABOUT THE AUTHORS

  DIANE CAREY is a best-selling science fiction writer with more than forty-five novels to her credit, including nine New York Times bestsellers for her Star Trek work and several number one chain bestsellers. She holds the distinction of having written many of the episode-to-novel adaptations of seminal Star Trek episodes, including the novelizations of the finale for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the premiere of Star Trek Enterprise and has gained a reputation for her care and attention in expanding and extending the rich backstories of the characters she works on. An avid sailor of historic tall ships, Carey lives in Michigan with her husband, writer and computer programmer Greg Brodeur and children Lydia, Gordon, and Ben.

  JOHN SHIRLEY is the author of numerous novels and books of stories, including the novels Demons, Crawlers, Cellars, Wetbones, City Come A-Walkin’, Eclipse, A Splendid Chaos, the Bram Stoker Award–winning Black Butterflies from Leisure, and the rather notorious collection Really Really Really Really Weird Stories from Nightshade.
