Patty smiled wickedly. “I just bet you do.”
Ed and Andy poured more champagne. Andy said, “Great party, Patty.” He frowned at me. “I’m almost talking to you again. I can’t believe you suspected me.” Laughing, he and Ed went to talk with Rob and Patrick.
I blushed. “You don’t think he’s serious, do you?”
“Well, you did try to throw suspicion on him.”
“Not really.”
Her eyebrows arched. “Uh-huh. Like you didn’t sic the police on him?”
I gulped. “That was you!”
She laughed and rang a small bell. “Everyone grab a plate, and let’s eat.”
Piled down with leftovers, Rob, Jenny, and I made our way back to the house after helping Patrick and Patty clean up. I shoved everything into the refrigerator. “I’ll deal with that later.”
Jenny kissed me. “Best Christmas ever.” Then she carefully hugged Rob. “Thanks for trying to save my mom. You’re the best.” As she ran up the stairs, she called back, “Don’t forget, Mom. You’re taking me swimsuit shopping tomorrow.”
I laughed. I uncorked a bottle of wine and took down two glasses. Rob took my hand and led me into the living room. He poured the wine while I plugged in the tree and clicked on the fire.
Sitting down, he put his good arm around me. “I agree with Jenny. Best Christmas ever.” He gave me a long kiss, and I relaxed against his chest. He gazed into my eyes. “I love you, Meredith March. And I think it’s time you made that appointment with Father Tom to talk about an annulment.”
