Calabrese told his men to relax. Their hands did. Their eyes did not.

“I’m here to tell you the whole thing with Danny Ketchum is over. He’s in jail right now. I even uncovered his little secret. My friend was unable to find any prints belonging to a man named Danny Ketchum, which went nicely with his non-existent past. The fingerprints turned out to match those of a young hooker named Danielle Ketch, though.”

Calabrese sat up a little straighter. “Fuck you, you nosey asshole.”

I smiled. “Yeah, we uncovered Danny’s secret just like Carol Dickinson did. We found out action superstar Danny Ketchum used to be a female prostitute and had a sex change operation at a clinic in California. I can imagine what would happen to his career when that little secret came out. He’d be the laughing stock of the industry and his believability as an action star would be shot to pieces. And just when he was about to star in a big budget movie, partly funded by you.”

“Yeah. You’re right. Mind you, I only became involved after Ketchum told me you were poking your nose in things. Killing that broad was entirely his doing, although I did supply the heroin for him.”

“That’s what I figured. Well, I’m just here to tell you there’s no reason to send any of your killers after me or my friends anymore. The jig is up as they say. Danny and Gina are behind bars, the secret is out and your movie will have to look for a new star.”

Calabrese sighed. “I knew I should have gone for Jackman. He never causes any trouble. So, you want to gloat some more over your superior detective skills, or will you just leave me the fuck alone?”

I held up my hands making a calming gesture. “Relax. I’m just going to enjoy the rest of the show and go my own way. I hope I’ll never meet you again.” Pointing at the Asian stripper, “Her I’m not so sure about.”

A few minutes later I was out of there. Minnie had promised to take me to dinner for finding out what really happened to her old friend. I told her she’d done most of the detective work and maybe I owed her. She insisted. I don’t usually look a gift horse in the mouth, and Gina proved again you don’t want to deal with a woman scorned, so I gave in.

  I always do.
