But it would never happen. Ever.
Leaning her head against his, she sucked in a deep breath before opening her eyes and meeting his gaze. Before he couldn’t see any resemblance between her and her brother. This close though, he could see that she did have his nose, and maybe the color of his eyes. She really was pretty. Nowhere near Kacey pretty, but she would make someone very happy one day. Not him though; his heart wasn’t an option.
Running her fingers along his jaw and then down the length of his beard, she smiled before kissing his nose.
“We gotta go in a few. Your plane is leaving in two hours.”
He nodded. When they’d taken a break for food earlier, he’d gotten a late-night flight out of New Orleans to go back home. He still hadn’t heard from Pierre, and that alone had him wanting to get the hell out. Also, the fact that he was fucking his sister made him a little skittish. Not that he was worried about Pierre; he should squish the dude with his beard.
He may not have gotten anything from Pierre, but Kacey was sure blowing his phone up, and he promptly ignored all the texts she sent. He knew she was pissed, but still he had no clue what to say to her. So instead, he bent Natasha over and fucked her hard from behind. It seemed like a good idea before, but now that he was leaving, who was he going to fuck to forget?
Not that he ever forgot. He could still feel her.
Fuck, he missed her.
“Yeah, I know,” he said, running his nose along hers. “This was good.”
“Yeah,” she agreed. “Did it work?”
Searching her eyes, he didn’t understand. “What?”
She smiled, her fingers twisting the end of his beard. “It’s obvious you’re trying to get over the girl on your phone, and I’m wondering if it worked.”
He knew he should lie, but for some reason, he told her the truth. “No.”
“I didn’t think so,” she said with a nod. “Which means it’s real.”
He didn’t answer her as she got off him and folded her arms across her chest. Looking back at him, she said, “And if that’s the case, don’t try fucking everyone until it’s gone. But I feel like you’re going to anyway.”
He nodded. “Probably.”
She scoffed. “Then remember, our breasts are attached and not all girls can take it as hard as you go. Be mindful, Jordie.”
He laughed as he drank her in. Her body had splotches of red all over. Either from his fingers, teeth, or beard. He had left marks all over her skin, and a part of him felt bad, but the glow on her face said she enjoyed it. But she was right, he needed to be careful, or he needed to talk to Kacey.
Nodding his head, he said, “I’ll remember that for next time.”
She smiled. “Or you could talk to her, work it out?”
He shook his head. “I don’t deserve her. She needs someone who can trust her.”
She shrugged. “Yeah, I have no answer. That’s your own fucked-up issue, but thanks for the fuck. I feel great.”
He returned her grin. “Yeah, it was a good time.”
“For sure,” she said, leaning down and kissing his lips again. “I’m gonna go shower. There’s another shower in the other bathroom. I’ll meet you out here in a few and we’ll go.”
Cupping her face, he kissed her again. “Thanks, Natasha.”
“Sure,” she said, patting his shoulder, and as she walked away, he wondered if he would miss her. He doubted it, but he wouldn’t forget her, that’s for sure. Sucking in a deep breath, he got up, flinching from the pain before hobbling to his clothes. Picking them up, his phone vibrated and he closed his eyes. It had to be from Kacey, and when he pulled the phone out, he was right.
Kacey: I think it’s super fucked up that you can tell my brother you are okay but not me.
Kacey: What the hell, JT? Really? What did I do to be ignored?
Kacey: You let me go!
Kacey: Is that even it?
Kacey: Fuck, you’re killing me here.
Kacey: Please, just talk to me.
Kacey: I mean, are you doing this because you don’t even want to talk to me anymore?
Kacey: I thought we’d at least be friends after everything.
Kacey: But I guess not, thanks for nothing, Jordie.
Kacey: You know what, I bet you’re already off fucking someone else, huh?
As he read the last text, it felt like she stabbed him. Closing his eyes, he pinched the bridge of his nose as he let the phone fall to the ground. When it hit the floor, he looked down at it, her words staring up at him. Each word stabbed him in the heart because she was right, he was doing just that. He was off fucking anything and everything to forget her, but the real kick was that it didn’t fucking work.
He only wanted to forget; he didn’t want to hurt her, that was never his intention, but that’s exactly what happened. He was ignoring her because he couldn’t face his feelings. He couldn’t let her know that he was dying inside from pushing her away. Even with him being honest from the beginning, telling her that nothing could happen between them long-term, somewhere inside him he thought… He… Hell, he didn’t know what he thought. He just didn’t want to let her go, but then she caught the feelings, and being smart, she walked away. Because he wasn’t worth her time. Wasn’t worth her feelings. Her heart. No, he wasn’t the guy for her.
And now it was his turn to walk away because he couldn’t love her and act like they were just friends. It couldn’t be one or the other. She had left her mark on him, and he couldn’t come back from that. He couldn’t look her in the eyes as a friend and not crave her touch, her smile, her laugh. No, he just couldn’t do it. He couldn’t stop loving her if he continued to be her friend.
He had to let go.
Cut off all communication.
Stay away from Karson and Lacey’s house when she was there.
Or he would never get over her.
No matter how much the thought of not having her in his life crushed his soul, he had to let go.
Because Jordie Thomas wouldn’t get a happily ever after.
It wasn’t in his cards.
