No, but if they’re watching me and others, then there must be a common denominator that we all share. I should ask Cait. She did bloodwork on Mia and me. I bet she also did bloodwork on Deja, maybe she has the answers I’m looking for. The doctors told her Mia’s blood type when she was born. It was written down in her paperwork at home.
They headed towards the front door while she once again shoved the questions she couldn’t answer to the back of her head. She needed answers because she didn’t intend to leave.
Cole was outside when they arrived. He was flanked by Xander, Caden, and Ven. They were testing the swing set to make sure the poles were buried deep enough, and it was stable.
“You do realize she only weighs about thirteen pounds?”
“She’ll get bigger.”
“Besides I want to swing too.” Ven sat down and started pumping his legs. She took out her phone making sure she got some good pictures for Deja.
She took Mia over to the other side of the swing set where they had two swings that she couldn’t fall out of.
“Who is the other swing for?
“Jade.” They answered as one.
She tried to control her smile. It was one of the things she liked about them, they believed in family and community.
“I haven’t seen her around.”
“They went to visit the Thalians. They’ve never seen a baby.”
“Why are you frowning?” Cole pulled her away from Mia who was swinging, and Ven took her place as pusher.
“I was thinking how sad it was to not be allowed to have children.”
“The galaxy isn’t always nice, and our planet has taken some extreme measures that other planets in our solar system have not resorted to.”
“It amazes me to think that your sun can support more than life on one planet. Our planet is the perfect distance away from the sun to support life. Any closer and we would burn, any further away and we would freeze. It’s bad enough when winter comes, and I have to wear a coat and boots.”
“Not every planet has the same climate. We have five planets in our solar system that support life. There are three others that look like they used to support life.”
She reached out and hugged him before placing a kiss on his chest.
“Okay, it’s my time to swing.”
They spent the rest of the day playing outside. She felt like a child for the first time in her life having nothing to do except have fun. They had a picnic lunch, and she groaned when it was time to go in and get ready to be an adult.
“It’s time to go in Mia. Guys thanks for coming outside with us today, I had a blast.”
“So did we.” Xander threw Mia up in the air until she screamed again.
Jessie put her hand over her heart and reminded herself that he wouldn’t miss, none of them would.
Xander handed Mia over as all three of them promised to be at the club later.
When they walked in the house, she kicked her sandals off next to the door and collapsed on the couch.
“I never realized how playing can tire you out.”
“It was a nice day the kind that the Kur’iks never knew before. I wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t more Kur’iks out tomorrow to play with Mia.”
“Un-huh, you mean spend time on the swings and go down the sliding board. Ven loved the jungle gym. Too bad he’s so old I could see Olympic gold in his future.”
“He has enough gold in his life.”
She got up. “I’m going to check on Mia she’s a little too quiet for me.”
He got up to follow her. She was lying on her bed. She thought Mia was asleep at first until she saw a tear past one eyelid.
“Baby, why are you crying.” It was times like these that she was frustrated if only Mia could tell her what was wrong. She checked everything, but nothing was wrong. Her temperature was normal; she wasn’t wet or hungry.
“Can I hold her?”
She moved out of the way and let Cole pick her up.
Mia laid her head on his chest, and he could feel the confusion in her mind. There was fear and pain. Her overwhelming emotion was sadness; she believed she would never see her mother again.
“She’s scared for you.”
“How do you know?”
“This is a new area for us, but it seems that young Kur’iks can transfer emotions and pictures.”
“Oh.” She sat on the edge of Mia’s daybed.
“Jessie, are you okay?”
“I am, that green monster jealousy got a hold of me for a minute. I wished I was a Kur’ik so that I can see and feel what she’s going through. I’m fine.”
“Let me tell you what Mia is going through. She loves you and is scared something is going to happen to you, that’s why she is crying.
She put her head on his chest and cried before she took Mia away from Cole to hold her tight.
“I love you, baby. How do I stop her fear from happening?”
“You believe me?”
“Of course I do. I believe Mia also. She’s crying because she believes something will happen. Children are much more sensitive than adults.”
“As long as you are here nothing will happen.”
She nodded her head, but she knew better. The last person you should tempt was Murphy because he loved to screw with lives.
“Dinner time.” She gave her best fake smile and started getting ready for the evening.
Chapter Thirteen
Jessie was hustling tonight. There were more customers than usual, and they were all messing with Cole by getting a little too close to her. He’d been sending out warning growls all night long while they laughed at him.
She loved this club from the wooden bar that shone like it was polished every day, to the relaxed sections for people to meet and spend time together. There was an old-fashioned jukebox the only thing in the club that didn’t scream money or sophistication.
Sometimes she would dance before she caught herself and the whole club would give her that look. It scared her at first. She felt like they were claiming her, turns out they were, but as a family.
Xander ordered a drink as the door opened and Ven and Avel walked in. He was the new Alpha of the Thalians. Cole explained to her earlier that the Kur’iks were all green eyed while the Thalians were all gray eyed.
They walked up to the bar and leaned close to Cole whispering something. He called for Declyn and Enzo. Declyn was the Alpha and Enzo was his beta. They walked out and she decided now was a good time to get that drink.
“Hi, Xander wants a drink. He says a shot of the red and a chaser. What’s happening here?”
“Nothing,” Avel said averting his gaze.
She turned to look at Cole who couldn’t look her straight in the face.
“I see, I better get this drink over to him.” She walked away keeping her back stiff. She thought she was done with being on the outside, but it looked like she was wrong.
“What are you going to do?”
Cole turned to face Declyn. He spent his life following his orders, it still surprised him at times that on this planet he was allowed to make up his own mind. Declyn didn’t have to do that, he could have kept him, all of them under his thumb. He always said his battalion was his main priority and he would do whatever it took to make them safe.
“I’m going to tell her when we get home.”
“She won’t turn over Mia,” Deja said before she went to fill a drink order.
“I know it’s not Mia I’m worried about its Jessie. She might risk her life so her mother could live.”
None of them understood about mothers but watching Jessie with Mia, and now Amira with Jade it had become obvious mothers would do anything for their children.
Someone put a few coins into the jukebox and asked her to dance. She knew they were distracting her, but she appreciated it. She danced and sang for them while she wondered what was so bad that Cole wouldn’t tell her about it.
Cole was the last person in the c
lub, he always was. He liked to lock up. Tonight, he was waiting for Jessie and Mia she was taking longer than usual.
“Sorry, she’s a little fussy. We’re ready.” He took her hand, and they walked out the club. He locked the door and checked the perimeter security.
“I didn’t know you had security on the outside of the club.”
“We rarely use it. I set it in case there is a breach of the main barrier.”
“Is there something special in the club?” she didn’t expect him to answer after what happened earlier.”
“There are several components to our ship that we need to move to a safe location. If there was ever need to leave the earth, we couldn’t do it without them. They are also deadly to humans who can’t cross the barrier on their own. We don’t want to start an epidemic.”
“Whatever your hiding it’s bad.”
“It is, but I will tell you when we get home. Telling you in the club served no purpose. This way you can think about it, and we can talk.”
She nodded focusing on the night sky. This was one of the places in the city you could get a good view of it. What would it be like to be from the stars? For Cole and his people, it hadn’t been so nice.
“I’ll put her to bed.”
It didn’t take long to get Mia settled. Cole was sitting at the table when she went looking for him. She wanted to head in the opposite direction, call it a night and pray for sunshine the next day. Unfortunately, she was going to have to face whatever was coming her way.
“Tell me.”
He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a piece of paper that had been stapled to a tree and handed it over.
We have your mother. She promised us merchandise, deliver, or we will kill her.”
She laughed until she fell off the chair. Then she laughed some more before drying the tears that were running down her face.
“Jessie, they have your mother.” Cole was kneeling on the floor next to her.
“No, they don’t. You have to know my mother, Cole. She would do a note like this herself if she thought it would persuade me to do something. What she doesn’t realize is I love my daughter I will never turn her over. What pissed me off was that they called her merchandise as if she’s not a living breathing person.”
“What if they kill her?”
“Then she dies.” Her heart stuttered saying those words, but her mom brought it on herself. She tried to sell her granddaughter and would have sold Jessie if she wasn’t sick.
“I think we should go to bed.”
The flames in his eyes told her everything she wanted to know. She was desperate to get him in bed.
She led him through the bedroom to the bathroom.
“Shower?”
His eyes said he was for that. She stood back and began to take off her clothes one piece at a time. She would have to go shopping for clothes soon.
Her hips did a little shimmy to the music going through her head as she watched Cole whose eyes were glued to her. The look on his face made her feel proud to be who she was. Her top came off, and she threw it across the room before her fingers went to the button on her skirt. She let it drop to the floor before she kicked it away.
One heart beat than another before she did a slow spin allowing him to see her in her lingerie. A growl came from him before he pulled her into his arms.
“You need more of these,” he whispered in her ear before kissing her. His tongue swept in making her breathless as he dueled with hers. The taste of him had wetness flowing between her legs, and she wanted to feel him deep inside of her.
Her hand slid down to his jeans so she could feel him growing thick for her.
“I love how you respond to my kiss and my touch. Take the shirt off.”
She stood back a couple of inches and watched as he pulled the shirt over his head. She watched the muscles in his arms flex and licked her bottom lip while her pussy pulsed with desire. He leaned down and kissed her neck sucking on the sensitive skin. She moaned as her hands went to his chest feeling the warmth of his skin. She went to her toes to be able to suck one of his nipples into her mouth.
“I want you, Jessie.”
“Take me.” Please take me. She wanted him buried deep inside her, wanted to become one with him so the whole world would know he was off limits.
“Not yet, can’t, you have to be sure. Start the shower.”
He moved back and watched her ass as she walked to the shower before he took off his jeans. He looked down at his dick it was thick and hard and wanted to be buried deep within her.
He joined her in the shower cradling his dick in the crack of her ass.
“I have to be sure of what?”
“We never thought we could mate. They told us it was impossible. That seemed like the truth, we spent time with females on leave whenever we could, but not one of us ever formed a mate bond with one. Enzo said when he made to love Deja his teeth came out and he bit her. He didn’t have any control, and it linked her to him. You have to know I’m the one you want, that this life is what you want before we can mate. I won’t trap you.”
He reached for the sponge and poured some of the vanilla scent she purchased on it and began washing her. He started with her hands making sure to wash each digit. Then he moved up her skin making her hypersensitive. She was trying to concentrate on his words, but all she could think of was the feel of his strong fingers massaging her taking the stress of the day away.
He reached her shoulders, she moaned as the scent of vanilla calmed her, even as the feel of his hands was making her hot. He turned her around to face the wall, the heat of his body keeping her warm. He washed down her back exploring her. His touch was soft. He treated her like she was special and she loved it.
The feel of the sponge going over her ass made her moan. He took his time making sure she was clean before he knelt down and kissed the base of her spine making her tremble. His lips moved lower kissing her. She tensed then relaxed enjoying the feel of his lips on her. He washed each leg until she was squeaky clean. One of his fingers traced the crack of her ass until he was rubbing the seam of her pussy. The startled scream of pleasure that came from her made him growl. It was deep and rough making her pussy convulse in need.
“Turn around.” He stood back. His eyes had changed looking more like the alien werewolf than the Kur’ik.
She waited for fear to bubble up in her stomach. There was nothing but desire as she felt the wetness flow down her legs that had nothing to do with the shower.
He started at her shoulders washing her thoroughly until he reached her chest. The sponge left his hands as played with her breast watching her eyes dilate in pleasure. He licked them nipping at them before taking a nipple in his mouth. His other hand was playing with her nipple as her hips moved against his leg looking for release.
His hand moved down her belly making her tremble as his mouth followed. He went to his knees his arms going around her back as he worshiped her belly kissing her curves. He lowered his head until he found her clit sucking it into his mouth. Her cries of pleasure drove him to suck harder. His finger traced the seam of her pussy while he was still sucking on her.
He buried one finger deep inside of her while her legs tried to buckle.
“Cole, we should wait.” Her voice was raspy with desire and need.
He added a second finger. He looked up to see her eyes wide as she grasped at his shoulders to hold on. He rumbled pulling her closer as his fingers fucked her drawing loud sounds of encouragement from her.
Her nails dug into his shoulders as he increased the pace until she finally gave a loud shout and lost control of her body as it convulsed with pleasure. She slid down the shower unable to stand on shaking legs. He caught her turning off the water before taking her to the bedroom.
Chapter Fourteen
Two weeks had passed, she was in a holding pattern with Cole. He gave her pleasure every night, and she pleasured him, but she hadn’t made the ultimate move. Committing t
o someone when her life was in a state of flux didn’t make sense. Then there was the fact that she never thought she would settle down or have a permanent person in her life. What if she wasn’t cut out for it?
There didn’t seem to be a good answer especially when she realized that love hadn’t said a word to her in the last two weeks and C&C was silent. All of her voices were silent. There was nothing but crickets in her head. She always thought she’d be happy for the silence, she was wrong. Those voices were part of her, and they helped her make some of the most important decisions of her life.
She looked down and smiled at Mia. They started taking walks every day, it allowed her and Mia to meet more of the Kur’iks. They felt more and more like family.
“Jas, Jas.” Mia was greeting one the males they had become friends with.
“Hi, Jasper.” Jessie gave him a smile. Jasper was one of the young ones but still much older than Ven who was the youngest Kur’ik until you added Mia and baby Jade into the mix.
“May I?” She nodded, he bent over to pick her up. “Out for your daily walk?”
“Un huh, one of the things I love about living here is the peace.”
“It’s not always peaceful.”
“I know, I remember.” Thoughts of that night several months ago, when Deja protected them sometimes invaded her dreams. “Despite that, there is more peace here than where I used to live.”
“I like having you here. Both you and Mia bring something special to our compound. You feel like you fit.”
Perfect words because that’s how she felt like they fit.
“Why are you walking towards the barrier?”
“I come here sometimes to remind myself the world is not perfect. One glance and I’m ready to turn around. I think it’s a good way to remind myself to be thankful for what I have.”
“Grama.” Mia’s voice was shaking.
Jessie looked up to realize she was closer to the barrier than she thought. Standing on the street in front of them was her mother screaming her fool head off, but the barrier kept the noise out.
