by Jillian Dodd
“Sad” by Maroon 5
I’ll always be drawn to his side.
The Scene: Can’t deal.
This song, like the title, is sad. This song is from Aiden’s point of view. Chelsea lied to Keatyn about them being together. Riley broke his nose. He and Keatyn made up, but yet, she’s not getting back with him. I want to go hug him.
“Wake Me Up” by Avicii
“I’m fine. Just a little broken. But I’ve been broken for a while. I’m like a chip on your windshield.”
The Scene: A friendly voice.
Keatyn talking to Damian. She’s still sad. She doesn’t like the journey she’s on, but she has no choice. She wishes she could just close her eyes and be woken up when it’s all over. But I love the line about finding yourself when you didn’t know you were lost. Because Keatyn totally found herself at Eastbrooke.
“Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
“I officially hate you!” I say to the moon. “I never should have made a stupid wish on you!”
The Scene: Stupid glow.
Oh, this song. Another really sad one. Keatyn can’t stand to look at the stars, because they represent Aiden. And she’s never going to see him, or Eastbrooke again. (Although I believe the lyrics are talking about someone who died.) Aiden isn’t dead, thank goodness, but she believes that their love is. Has to be.
“Just One Last Time” by David Guetta
And the longer I’m there—the closer we get—the more I feel like I’m being eaten from the inside out.
The Scene: Write my name in the sand.
Let’s cry some more. His voice sounds like he’s crying. She can’t move away. She doesn’t know if she can do it. She doesn’t know if she’s strong enough to fight Vincent. But she knows what she has to do. She doesn’t want to put Aiden or Eastbrooke in danger. She feels she doesn’t have a choice. It’s so sad.
Adore Me: The Soundtrack
“Please Don’t Go” by Mike Posner
“I don’t care if everything we’ve told each other up until this point is a lie. We start over. Here. Today.”
The Scene: Wash away the hurt.
Aiden shows up on the plane to St. Croix! He brings her dirt. He begs her not to go. He also practically tells readers here that he knows the truth about her when he says he doesn’t care about the lies. Did it seem odd to you that he said that? Because he never lied to her.
“Lucky Charm” by Keith Urban
“Take mine and wish for something new.”
The Scene: Make a wish.
Love this scene. Their wishes are so cute, and I love that he gives her his wish because he’s already lucky.
“Closer” by Tegan and Sara
“You make every moment beautiful.”
The Scene: It’s my surfboard.
Everyone said, even if she doesn’t end up with Aiden that they’d always have Adore Me. This playlist is filled with adorable love songs for the most part. It’s time to finally revel in them being together.
“Let Go” by Frou Frou
“This has to stop. All this what if bullshit.”
The Scene: What if bullshit.
Damian’s tough love here. He’s such a good friend when he tells her not to let what happened with Vincent change her.
“Happily Ever After” by He is We
“Maybe it means I’m going to die soon,” I say softly, knowing it could happen.
The Scene: Meaning in everything.
This is such a cute song. Keatyn wants her own happily ever after.
“What’s Your Fantasy?” by Ludacris
“I’ve been dreaming of slowly undressing you.”
The scene: Obsession with fairytales.
Sexy song. Aiden has been having a few fantasies about Keatyn.
“Rest of My Life” by Ludacris
“It’s times like these that we stop to reflect on our lives.”
The Scene: Love song about her lips.
This is such an important song at this point in Keatyn’s life. This scene, Thanksgiving, toasting life. Toasting friends. Keatyn’s about to face Vincent, and she needs this. Because her friends and family are what will get her through it.
“Starry Eyed” by Ellie Goulding
The second our fingers touch, it’s like magic.
The Scene: Your lips on mine.
It’s only fitting that Aiden makes Keatyn starry-eyed.
“How to Live” by The Perfect Addiction
“You promised to do all the stuff on my list. That starts today.”
The Scene: About last night.
If you’ve never heard of this band, check them out. I heard about them from a reader when I was looking for someone to record my music. If I hadn’t been able to get Kyle Patrick, I totally would have tried to work with them. This song is perfect here. Aiden wants to help Keatyn live, if only she’d just tell him the truth. And I love that they are doing things on her bucket list together.
“Beam Me” Up by Cazette
“That breeze was like the colors of the wind. The earth is telling you to jump with me.”
The Scene: The love cliff.
Love when they jump off the love cliff together. That he asks if she trusts him. I like the lyrics to this song. There’s part about them taking off together. And the whole part about not looking down.
“Say It, Just Say It” by The Mowgli’s
Every part of me wants to tell him. To say it out loud.
The Scene: Totally did the deed.
A very cute, beachy sounding song that’s fitting. Aiden wants to tell her he loves her. And we all want him to say it, too!
“Turn Around” by Conor Maynard
A few moments later, he comes up from behind me, wraps his arms around my waist, and whispers, “Open.”
The Scene: Totally did the deed.
I love Aiden and his surprises. Here, he writes love in the sand. And this song, he just wants her to look at him. To know he’s there for her. That they will be together forever.
“Years” by Alesso
“You know, they say the moon controls the tides. So now you’ll have both luck and the tides of fate on your side.”
The Scene: A ding dong ditcher.
Aiden gives her luck and fate when he makes her a necklace. And they will both remember it for years to come.
“Unbreakable” by Michael Mind Project
“I believe death is coming back for you.”
The Scene: A dangerous journey.
Girl power. You can do it, Keatyn, through the emotions, the tears, the terror. She has no choice. She has to save herself. She has to fight Vincent alone. And she has to be unbreakable.
“I Can Only Imagine” by David Guetta
The shower glass is starting to fog over, but I can still his naked outline.
The scene: Its official title.
Ohhh, imagining what it will be like with the Titan. Although this song is more from Aiden’s point of view. Because, come on, he’s naked, in the shower. And he can only imagine what it will be like when they are finally together.
“Let Me Love You” by Ne-Yo
“Yeah, like everyone falls in love at different times in their lives. And when you’re in it, you think you know what it’s like to be in love. Until you meet your true love and then you know the other love wasn’t the same thing.”
The Scene: The green flash.
Fun fact. This is one of two songs (the other is “Sorta Like Fate”) that are featured on more than one book’s playlist. This song was also included on the Kiss Me playlist, and Aiden’s feelings are even stronger now. He wants to be the one to love her. To show her what true love is.
“Honey and the Moon” by Joseph Arthur
“I wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for one special girl.”
The Scene: This one’s for you.
When Brooklyn calls and he’s won the tournament. His song is sad. It talks of the sea, dreams, and them.
“If
I Lose Myself Tonight” by Alesso vs OneRepublic
“A deep within my soul, heartbreakingly beautiful kind of love.”
The Scene: From the beginning.
Aiden is breaking down Keatyn’s walls. But should she allow herself to love him? She wants to have a life with him.
“Daylight” by Maroon 5
My brain is still counting down—ticking and ticking— the hours and, now, the minutes until I have to say goodbye.
The Scene: Sorta like fate.
I feel so bad for Keatyn here. The time keeps ticking. Their last night. She can’t sleep. She knows she’s going to tell him goodbye.
“The Spark” by Afrojack
“Now if I could just put in words how I felt when I first met her.”
The scene: Sorta like fate.
Damian being adorable talking about him and Peyton. This is also the scene where he and Keatyn collaborate on writing the song, “Sorta Like Fate”.
“Never Say Goodbye” by Hardwell & Dyro
“I thought about faking my death. Even about killing myself.”
The Scene: I wish none of us had to leave.
Oh, she doesn’t want to say good-bye to Aiden. But she can’t be afraid to live. Or die.
“I Finally Found You” by Enrique Iglesias ft. Sammy Adams
“I just wanted to be able to say goodbye.”
The Scene: I wish none of us had to leave.
Another song with Sammy Adams. Once again, Aiden for Moon Boy! This song is so Keatyn and Aiden from Aiden’s point of view. He has to go with her because she has his heart. Love these lyrics. He finally found the girl he wished on the moon for.
Hate Me: The Soundtrack
“Against the World” by Michael S. & Morgan Page
“It’s the thought of not being here with you that makes me cry.”
The Scene: Say yes.
Love that with Aiden she feels like it’s them against the world, and something she desperately needs right now as she gears up for her battle with Vincent.
“Faint” by Linkin Park
Be strong, Keatyn. It’s time for you to take charge.
The Scene: Got blown up.
This is the scene where she tells Garrett that she’s taking charge of the Vincent situation. And she tells them her plan. This is a very bold move, and she has to be confident and pretend to have it all together.
“All of You” by Peter Thomas
“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe I’m just mad at myself.”
The Scene: I hate the internet.
Keatyn finds out that Chelsea texted Aiden over break, and he won’t tell her what she said. But they work through it.
“Lie to Me” by Cole Plante
“Don’t say it. I can’t hear it. Not right now.”
The Scene: Back to shore.
This song is sad. I think it’s really a break-up song, but for Keatyn it’s about so much more. She wants Brooklyn to lie to her. She doesn’t want to hear about the other girl because Brooklyn represents home to her. The beach. She needs to know that he’s in this fight with her. And he maybe isn’t really.
“Without You” by David Guetta
“I can’t believe you would bail on me like this! I need you!”
The Scene: Liquidity
Then Brooklyn tells her that he can’t help her with the hostile takeover, and she’s so upset. She feels lost. She doesn’t think she can do it without him.
“Feel Good” by Goldhouse
“I thought they’d make you feel better.”
The Scene: You come to me.
And then there’s Aiden, who wants to do nothing but help her. He doesn’t want to see her cry. He wants to make her life perfect.
“Kick Out the Epic Motherf**ker” by Dada Life
I draw a little crowd, which makes me dance a little naughtier.
The Scene: Fireball shots.
Keatyn goes to the club to see Vincent and dances in the cage in front of him. This is a fun party song perfect for the setting. Also, this song has a story. Molly McAdams and I went on a road trip to Atlanta a few years ago for a reader get together with Kyla (K.A.) Linde. My daughter made me a “great playlist” of songs. This was literally an epic playlist as it went on for hours and hours (It’s an eleven hour drive.) It was now morning. We decided not to stop but were getting tired and crabby. We stopped at McDonalds and when we were pulling out of the parking lot with our food, this song came on. Neither of us had ever heard it before, but when the first set of lyrics build up to the epic part and there’s all that bass, we both started head banging in the same way at the same time. We died laughing. And then had to listen to it a million times so we could learn the words...and stay awake.
“Marry Me” by Jason Derulo
I swear, I just forgot how to breathe.
The Scene: Gritty, raw performance.
Aiden asks Keatyn to go to winter formal at the top of a homemade Eiffel Tower at sunset. More foreshadowing for sure, but I was nervous to have this on the playlist at this point. The debate about who she would choose was hot. People were passionate about both Brooklyn and Aiden being right for her. And here, with this song, Aiden is telling you exactly what’s going to happen. He’s going to ask her to marry him—at, you guessed it, Top of the Eiffel Tower at sunset.
“Young Forever” by Jay Z
“You two are having entirely too serious a conversation.”
The Scene: Control in the chaos.
The gang is at Stockton’s partying, but Keatyn and Aiden are discussing the girl who hugged Brooklyn after he surfed. She is telling him that if it weren’t for the stalker, that girl would have been her. It’s the moment when she realizes that Aiden is the calm in her chaos.
“Best Day of my Life” by American Authors
“This has been the best birthday.”
The Scene: Kinda bossy.
Aiden’s birthday where she rents out a racetrack for him as a gift. He tells her it’s the best day of his life. Plus, she’s wearing jeans. And he likes them.
“Enjoy the Ride” by Krewella
“It’s about to get crazy!”
The Scene: Look outside.
A sweet moment where Aiden wakes Keatyn up to show her the snow that has fallen. And although she’s afraid of what she’s about to do, with Aiden, she just has to enjoy the ride.
“Collide” by Jake Miller
“Maybe you should unzip my pants. Get a better feel.”
The Scene: I’m not ready for that.
Oh, get ready for some sexy K & A times. I think this song is the perfect song for them. Because, it’s about time these two collide. I see this from Aiden’s point of view. I love how it talks about the stars lining up for them. And it’s a fun song they could dance to.
“Should’ve Been a Cowboy” by Toby Keith
A softly playing song catches my attention and stirs up a childhood memory.
The Scene: Something up his sleeve.
This song makes Keatyn cry. She used to listen to it with her dad, and she wants so badly to tell Aiden about him.
“Laser Light” by Jessie J
But when I get to the top of the stairs, I can barely believe my eyes.”
The Scene: Something up his sleeve.
The Christmas tree scene! Love how the song talks about how he took her breath away. And how Aiden is like a light for her, making her feel fantastic, safe, and like she might survive this all. Especially when the tree is basically their story.
“Shush” by Rachele Royale
“Panties. I win.”
The Scene: Lied myself into a corner.
H.O. Double T, Hot. This is the hottest scene Aiden and Keatyn have shared up until this point. This is a song I listened to a lot when writing their love scenes. It’s a sexy, hot song. Just like they are together.
“Intoxicated” by The Cab
“The only word that accurately describes it is intoxicating.”
The Scene: Lied myself into a corner
.
Aww, Aiden. He is intoxicated by Keatyn. Love this song. Love them.
“Punishment Time” by Korn
There is nothing. Just. Emptiness. Loneliness. Despair.
The Scene: Straight out of a movie.
Well, after the love fest and sexy times in New York, the shit starts hitting the fan. Keatyn is devastated when one of the dancers from the club is killed. And the way she is found is clearly a message. Keatyn feels horrible, and this song I picture as Vincent singing. Like he’s punishing her.
“Reload” by Sebastian Ingrosso
“You couldn’t have known it was going to happen.”
The Scene: Straight out of a movie.
At what feels like her lowest point, Keatyn has to just pick herself up and keep going. And she gets through it with help and advice from both Riley and Aiden.
“In the End” by Black Veil Brides
“You’ve done everything exactly the way I requested, right?”
The Scene: Madder than a wet hen.
I’m pretty sure I listened to this song about a million times in writing these last two books so I could get this feeling, her mood, just right. It’s Keatyn thinking about what’s going to happen to her in the end. Will she survive? And if she doesn’t, who will tell people about her life? Who will remember her? At this point in the story, she is still lying to everyone at Eastbrooke, especially Aiden. This is the scene specifically where she signs the papers to buy the land that she wants to give Aiden so he can live out his dream. She also gives her attorney a letter to give Aiden when she dies, so he will know how she felt. And what this land means to her. After this scene, she’s better. She’s not as afraid to die anymore. And then she goes to face Vincent again.
