  Prologue

“Torq, you ready to go man?” Arynn asked, looking around the crowded club filled with chicks who were ready to ride just about any cock as long as they wore a cut. Of course, he wasn’t one to complain, but as the Omega of his pack, all the emotions pouring off the humans were a little overwhelming to his senses. Luckily for him, his brother Torq was closed off.

Xan and Kellen disappeared with a couple of females, making him shake his head as Xan turned around with a knowing grin before the door to the outside shut between them.

“I’m ready if you are.” Torq’s deep rumble brought his head back around. Torq and he both stood at six feet four and were built along the same linebacker size, with more tattoos than untouched skin. Being brothers, they were a lot alike in many ways, but Torq didn’t have the ability to feel the emotions of those around them. Hell, sometimes he didn’t know if Torq truly felt much of anything.

The door opened, letting in a group of human females. Torq sidestepped the bevy of young ladies, but Arynn’s wolf whined as two blonde women walked arm and arm through the crowd. Their heads next to each other’s, neither looking up or around at their surroundings.

“Yo, I thought we were leaving,” Torq growled.

As if in a trance, Arynn tore his gaze away from the two women, meeting his brother’s dark stare. “I think I need to stay for a bit.” Hell, if he were being honest, he’d tell Torq his wolf was raking at his skin wanting out. Instead he kept that bit of knowledge to himself and waited for his brother to make his exit. They’d both joined the Iron Wolves a few years ago when they’d met Kellen at a car show in Vegas. Instantly, they’d recognized the other man for the alpha he was and needed a pack. Now, Torq said he felt something in his blood calling him elsewhere to a place called Mystic. Arynn knew more than anyone that you didn’t ignore intuition any more than you ignored your body when it was giving off signals so loud you felt as if a livewire were attached to your nerves. Right at that moment, he could’ve sworn he had a straight line to a breaker box the way his body was buzzing.

“Alright, I’ll see you.” Torq pulled him in for a backslapping hug. “Don’t do anything stupid, little brother.”

Arynn wanted to laugh and tell Torq he never did anything stupid, until one of the blonde women came into view, making the words stick in his throat. No, stupid didn’t come to mind when he met her brown eyes across the club. “Get out of here and keep in touch,” Arynn said. They’d always have a link to one another even if they were hundreds or even thousands of miles apart.

Torq gave a nod, glanced to where Arynn was staring then shook his head. “Try to keep your small head from getting your big head in trouble.”

The words had Arynn laughing since those were the lines he normally said. “I’ll do my best,” he repeated Torq’s favorite comeback. Of course, Torq normally didn’t listen, and more often than not, he had a woman or two crying, because they thought they meant more to him than a one-night stand. How they mixed up a quick hookup in a bar bathroom or parked car with a long-term relationship, Arynn didn’t know, but women tended to want more from the elusive Torq than he
was willing to give. He on the other hand never made those mistakes, preferring to keep his relationships strictly casual, even going so far as to set up rules from the word go.

“Hi, my name’s Sarah. What’s yours?”

He jerked back, startled to find one of the blondes standing in front of him. Her voice was soft yet held an undercurrent of allure as if she knew how to appeal to men. Normally, he’d smile and walk away, but her scent was like a calling card to his wolf. Shit, he didn’t know what was happening, only knew he needed to get closer. “I’m Arynn. You here with your friends for some type of celebration?” He nodded toward the sash across her chest. Damn, his hands itched to run across the full mounds barely suppressed by the tight red dress. Again, she was the complete opposite of what he would’ve normally been attracted to. Not that she wasn’t one of the most stunning women he’d seen, but her eyes were almost calculating in their intensity.

Sarah laughed before she answered, bringing a red painted nail up to run down his chest, stopping above his belt buckle. “You can say that.”

Her non-answer puzzled him, making him wonder what game she was playing and who the bachelorette party was for. She wasn’t wearing the sash that said Bride, so he felt safe flirting back. Hell, if his wolf wanted to fuck the sexy blonde, he’d be game. “Can I buy you a drink?”

Her eyes twinkled. “Let’s skip all that and you ask me if you can take me away from all this noise, so we can get to know one another...better,” she purred.

Arynn’s cock jerked beneath the fly of his jeans. One hundred percent on board for doing exactly that. “Do you need to let your friends know you’re leaving?”

She shook her hair, a laugh bubbled up and out of her as if she thought he’d said the funniest thing. “Heck no. Those girls are my sister Sheila’s friends. Let’s go, unless you need to tell your friends?” She looked around.

“My brother just left and my other two...friends already left with their dates.” He barely caught himself from calling Kellen and Xan his packmates. He never screwed up when talking to humans, but this one was playing havoc with his mind and body. The word mate screamed through his brain, but he shoved it back.

“Did you by any chance ride a motorcycle here? I’d love to take a ride on one.”

Arynn looked at the extremely tight and short dress she was wearing and pictured her snuggled up to his back while they flew down the highway. Shit, his already hard cock seemed to swell even more at the imagery. “Sorry, doll, but I brought my pickup tonight.” His eyes narrowed as his brain registered her words. “What makes you think I ride a bike?”

Her shoulders lifted and fell in a graceful manner. “You’re wearing a leather cut, which means you belong to a club. That means you must ride.”

If his wolf wasn’t snarling to claim the female, he’d have given her a nod and walked away. He’d never been one to take a woman because she wanted to score with a club member. Hell, the Iron Wolves were formed to hide from humans, not to bring attention to their pack.

Her scent intensified as her friends called her name. He saw the panic in her eyes as she reached for his hand. “Come on, let’s go.”

Arynn allowed himself to be dragged out of the club, hoping the crisp evening air would clear his mind and offer some sanity. Her eyes looked left and right before landing on him. “Where’d you park?” She moved in closer, rubbing her hand up and down his chest.

With his free hand, he pointed at the refinished Ford he’d driven. The jacked up 1979 Ford F250 sat next to several smaller vehicles, looking like a monster truck. “Still want to leave with me?” he asked, giving her an out.

The smell of her arousal had his wolf howling in his head.

“Goodness, what a big truck you have. I hope you’re not overcompensating for other things.” She smiled at him, but gasped as he pressed her palm to the large bulge in the front of his jeans.

“Doll, I don’t need to overcompensate for shit. Like I said, you still want to leave with me?”

Sarah licked her lips and pulled away. He was sure she’d head back into the club, but she held firmly to his hand as she led the way to his all black truck. With each step they took, his wolf howled, itching and snarling. Why the fucker was putting up a fuss he didn’t know, but Arynn used his iron control and pushed the beast back. Being the Omega of a pack, he was used to blocking his own feelings so he could help others. Now, he was suppressing the wolf so he the man could enjoy the female.

  Six Weeks Later

  “I’m pregnant,” Sarah cried.

Arynn looked down at the phone before putting it back to his ear, sure he’d heard wrong. “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?”

“You heard me and before you say something stupid, it’s yours.” The it was said with a tiny snarl.

He scrubbed a hand down his face, exhaling before he opened his mouth and said something he’d regret, like asking how she was sure or how she’d gotten his number. “Are you okay?” Even though they’d parted on less than amicable terms, his chest swelled at the knowledge she could be carrying his young.

“No, I’m not okay. This ruins everything. I was supposed to be getting married, and then you happened. Now, I’m pregnant, unmarried and everyone thinks I’m a loser already. How do you think I’m feeling? Oh god, I think I’m going to be sick...” she gagged.

He looked around helplessly, wishing he were closer so he could be there to...do what he didn’t know, only knew he’d be there for her and the child. “I can be there in a few hours,” he offered.

“No, stay away. I only called because my sister said you had a right to know.” Sarah’s tone sounded gravelly as if she’d been crying or throwing up, a lot. Either prospect didn’t make him feel good, his wolf wanted to soothe.

“What do you need from me, Sarah? I want to be there for you and the baby.” After they’d had sex in his truck, his wolf had growled and let him know she wasn’t their mate. The itching beneath his skin had all but disappeared, which was a huge relief. He’d didn’t want a repeat round with the gorgeous female. She’d been just as quick to let him know she was happy for the one and done deal as well, since she was nineteen and getting married. His mind had spun at her confession. He’d never been one to fuck another man’s woman, and sure as shit, hadn’t planned on doing so that evening.

“What do I want? I want to go back to that night and never have met you. God, why did I let you fuck me?” she wailed.

Arynn wanted to remind her she was the one who’d practically begged him while dragging him out of the bar but didn’t think now would be a good time. “Well, that clearly isn’t possible. How about we talk about what your plans are?” He thought of her ending his child’s life before it ever began and felt a red haze wash over him.

“I’m keeping my baby, if that’s what you’re asking. As for your role—you don’t have one. I don’t want or need you in my baby’s life. There, I’ve done what you told me had to be done, now leave me the fuck alone, Sheila.”

The voice of an angel was speaking to Sarah, her tone similar to the one telling him he wasn’t going to have a role in his child’s life. Well, the woman had a hard lesson to learn. Arynn wouldn’t let a child of his grow up without knowing he loved them. Already, he felt a connection to the unborn child, which was crazy, but being the Omega, he didn’t question the feeling. Not to mention, the child would be a shifter. Pack law wouldn’t allow one to roam free without guidance.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Arynn, but my sister isn’t feeling well. Please don’t worry, she’ll be well taken care of, and when the baby is born, I’ll make sure you’re notified.”

His heart hammered against his ribcage. “What’s your name?”

“I’m Sheila. Sarah’s my sister and isn’t quite in the best state of mind at the moment. Um, I think she’s been a little off for a few months, which is probably why you and she—well, anyway, I’ve copied your number into my phone, so I’ll make sure to let you know when she goes into labor.”

/>   Arynn didn’t think he could get his tongue unstuck from the roof of his mouth, but when he did, he almost missed his opportunity to talk. “Sheila, could you please send me a photo of the child. You know, one of those sono ones?” The fact his heart was racing he put down to recently finding out he was going to be a father.

“Sure, I’ll see what I can do. Oh, I need to go, she’s coming back out of the bathroom. Oh, you poor thing.”

Arynn heard the sound of crying just as the phone went silent. A father. He was going to be a father in eight months. Looking up, he counted the stars and saw one shoot across the sky. Closing his eyes, he made a wish and prayed with all his heart it came true.

  Chapter One

  Twelve years later

“What do you mean, she’s acting out and something’s wrong? Why are you all of the sudden calling me? Where’s Sarah?” Arynn glared at the cellphone in his hand. Damn, three missed calls while he’d had the ringer off, will teach him not to take a break from technology. Hell, he’d given his number to Sheila thirteen years ago, not really sure she’d ever call him. Emails were her preferred method of communication.

A heavy sigh filled the air. “Listen, I’m really sorry to call you out of the blue like this, but there’s more I can’t say over the phone. Rebel is more than your average preteen, she’s also one of the most intelligent, beautiful souls I’ve ever met. I’m blessed to have two beautiful daughters, Mr. Dunn, but we need help right now, help I think only you can give us.”

His daughter Rebel had been a perfect angel when she’d been born. A full cap of dark hair like his with the same piercing blue eyes he had. Sarah had said all babies were born with blue eyes, and she’d eventually get brown ones like hers. He wondered if they’d ever changed, or if she still had his coloring. “Tell me what you need from me?” The snarled question was out before he could get his voice under control.

“We need you to come down here and see for yourself what’s going on and tell me what to do,” Sheila said.

He remembered the day his daughter was born. The memory was vivid enough it brought a tremor to his six foot four frame.
