Montana closed her eyes again and stroked herself slowly, only enough to keep her riding the edge of need but not enough to bring herself to orgasm. Oh, no, that was Boone’s job, and she was happy to give it to him.
Vaguely, she heard the sound of the shower pounding against the tile in the bathroom. Then the sound disappeared. A few more minutes and she heard the sound of a drawer opening and closing. Then, finally, Boone was there again. The scent of his cologne teased at her nostrils, and she drew in a deep breath.
“Smells better than smoke, right?”
“Mmm. But you smelled good the first night we were together, too, smoke and all.” She stilled her finger and opened her eyes. Boone was right beside her, holding something in his hand. Scarves. Scarves? She flicked a glance at them then back up at him.
“You said you were up for a little more adventure?” The question was right there in his eyes. Did she mean it?
“I trust you, Boone.”
The questioning stare was replaced by one more incendiary than the blaze they’d been fighting tonight.
“All right, then.” He climbed onto the bed, straddling her. “Wrists first.”
He wound a scarf around both wrists, tugged them over her head, and tied off the scarf to one of the spindles in the headboard. Bending low over her, he kissed her, licked her lips with the tip of his tongue, and gently placed the scarf over her eyes. When he had it secured at the back of her head, he took her mouth again, this time with a kiss so hot and voracious and demanding it set fire to her entire body. He thrust his tongue into her mouth, licking every surface, dancing with her own small tongue, sucking it lightly, and grazing the tip with his teeth. Everything he did, every sensation, was magnified because she couldn’t see, couldn’t touch. Only feel and take in the sounds and the scents.
“That’s it,” he coaxed. “Feel my hands on you.” He caressed her shoulders, her collarbone, and down over her breasts. “If I had you on your stomach, I’d give your sweet ass another slap or two, but that’s for another time. We will have other times, Montana. Lots of them. Right?”
“Oh, yes,” she breathed.
His busy fingers tweaked and pinched her nipples. Hard. The pain was like a sizzling needle to her hard tips, but the heat was welcome, not unpleasant.
“I have plans for us,” he went on, his voice gravelly with lust. “And not just in bed. Can we make plans together, darlin’?”
“Yes, yes, yes.” She twisted her body beneath him, trying to urge him down to her pussy where her walls pulsed with hungry need. “Yes, we can.”
He slid one hand between her thighs, finding her wet heat, sliding two fingers into her cunt. She wanted to reach for him, to tunnel her fingers into the thick silk of his hair, to scrape her nails down his back. But her wrists were tightly secured to the headboard, and the very helplessness of it had her burning even more. Made her hungrier. More voracious.
Montana had never really experienced adventurous sex. Lord knew Richard had saved all of his kink for his side pieces. He’d thrown it in her face often enough, while calling her frigid and the ice queen. Telling her it was all her fault. The truth was, after the first few years of marriage, she’d become so turned off by his egotistical attitude, she had trouble conjuring up any physical response to him. She still kicked herself mentally every day for staying as long as she had.
But, with Boone, she wanted to taste everything. Feel more. She wet her lips with her tongue, still feeling the imprint of his mouth on them. When he spread her thighs, bending her legs at the knees and exposing her to him, lust raced through her so strong she nearly came from anticipation alone. He opened her labia like the petals of a flower and stroked his tongue through her slit. That was all it took, just a simple touch, for her to explode.
He worked her with his tongue and fingers until the tremors subsided, every sensation magnified because she couldn’t see. Couldn’t touch him.
“Now we get down to serious business,” he murmured, giving her clit a light nip.
Montana had no idea how much time passed as he gave every inch of her body intimate attention with his tongue and his hands. He rubbed the crease between the globes of her buttocks, pushed just the tip of a finger into her tight-puckered opening, licked her pussy, and eased his fingers inside her. He played with her breasts, sucking and biting the nipples until she was ready to scream with need.
“I want to touch you,” she gasped in desperation.
“Next time.” The words were a guttural sound in the air.
And then he went back to work on her again, bringing her to the edge, backing off, teasing, tasting, driving her up so high then backing off. By the time she heard the crinkle of foil and the snap of latex, she was perched so precariously on the edge of explosion she had no doubt one more touch of any kind would ignite her.
But she was wrong. Boone had more exquisite torture in store for her. He slid his cock into her an inch at a time, teasing her with its size and length. And once he was fully inside her, he set up a slow rhythm that slowly drove her crazy.
“Please,” she begged. “Please, please, please.”
“Please what?” he asked as he rocked into her.
“Please let me come. Please come with me. Please, Boone. Please.”
“Since you asked so nicely.” But she heard it in his voice. He was on the rough edge as much as she was.
He sped up his pace and drove into her once, twice, three times, and then carried her over the edge with him into dark, erotic space, where she whirled in the center of a massive detonation. Her pussy clamped down on him and spasmed over and over as his cock pulsed inside her. When the last shudder subsided, the last aftershock, he fell forward, catching himself on his forearms, breath raspy. She wasn’t sure if it was his heartbeat she heard or her own.
Montana had no idea how long they lay there like that. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever move again or even wanted to. Then Boone slipped slowly out of her body, eased from the bed, and went to dispose of the condom. In seconds, he was back, untying the scarves and rubbing her arms to ease the strain. She blinked at the sudden light.
“You okay?” he asked, turning off the bedside lamp and sliding into bed beside her.
“More than.” She sighed, blissfully content. She snuggled back against the warm curve of his body. “Boone?”
“Uh-huh?”
“I told Darlene I’m buying the diner. She’s getting the papers drawn up this week.” She paused. “Are you glad?”
When he didn’t say anything, at first, a knot formed in her stomach. Then he kissed her shoulder and nibbled her ear.
“Glad is too weak a term for what I am, Montana. I’m hoping you’ll be serving me breakfast there for a lot of years to come. And sleeping in my bed at night.”
“Yeah?” Her heart stuttered with happiness.
“Damn straight. Now, go to sleep. Tomorrow, we’ll be making some plans.”
Montana closed her eyes and fell into the best sleep she’d had in years. Yes, she’d definitely come home.

Nothin’ like a little smoke to clear the air…
Chapter One
Josh tugged his helmet off and sighed, then took a deep breath of fresh air. Damn summers in the South. Might only be eighty-five degrees outside, but the ninety percent humidity was a killer. Add in a fire and…
He and several of his engine company brothers had entered the small house not thirty minutes ago and luckily had been able to assess and contain the kitchen fire without much trouble and before it could spread into any adjoining rooms. More than half the kitchen was a loss though. And he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d seen it before.
He knew exactly where the appliances were located, the outlets, the sink. He knew which cabinets housed dishes and which housed pots and pans, at least the ones not hanging on hooks in front of the breakfast room window. Déjà vu would’ve been a serious consideration, but he’d never been inside the house, didn’t know anything else about the house, and it really was a different feeling than anything he’d ever experienced.
A nudge from behind pulled him from his thoughts and he looked over his shoulder. His best friend, Tommy, who he’d come up through the ranks with, grinned at him. “You all right, man?”
Josh nodded. “Yeah, why?”
“Don’t know.” Tommy shrugged. “Cap’n thought maybe somethin’ was wrong the way you’ve just been standin’ there.”
“Nah. I’m good,” he reassured Tommy and fell into step beside him.
They crossed the small, well kept lawn to the truck. It gleamed bright red and clean in the late morning sunshine. He ought to know it was clean. He and Tommy had washed both engines before the call came in.
As he passed the ambulance that had parked behind them, he glanced over to see his EMT half-brother, Jay, tending to the woman who owned the house. She’d been brought outside and currently had an oxygen mask on. He watched as she nodded to something Jay said and then removed the mask and smile.
Josh knew that smile too, and in a flash it came to him exactly who she was and why he knew her kitchen as intimately as he knew his own. She was the food blogger whose blog he read on a daily basis. He was the one who cooked in the fire house whenever he was on the job and he was the cook in the house he shared with Jay. He loved to cook. It was an escape for him, a way to ease stress and on Sunday mornings, he made a mean breakfast for everyone who worked the fire house and their immediate families.
A Southern Morning was the name of her blog and she was Jessica Lynn and she was his crush and in looking at her in person, she was his dream girl. She wrote about the food in Greenville and food in general around the South. Her favorite meals were breakfast related and he’d seen her on one of the local early morning talk shows at the station house and immediately started reading her blog, trying her recipes, falling for someone he didn’t even know.
If the Marines he’d served overseas with ever found out, he’d never hear the end of it. Hell, if the men he worked with in the engine company ever found out, he’d never hear the end of it.
But she was a pretty little thing. Full of spit and vinegar, as his grandmother would’ve said. He called it sass and he loved it, loved how it came through in her written words and in the video blogs she posted a couple times a month when she was trying out a new recipe or letting her readers in on her mishaps in the kitchen.
The kitchen that was now ruined.
Holy. Fuck.
“You sure you’re all right?” Tommy asked. “You zoned out on me. You need to let Jay look at you?”
&nb
sp; Josh didn’t hesitate in answering. “Just tired. Been a long couple of days.
“Yeah. Sure has. Will be glad to go home to my own bed for a while.”
“I hear ya.”
“It’s kinda weird, isn’t it?”
“What’s weird?”
“Well, this little house is just a few streets over from yours. We’ve never had a call to this neighborhood.”
“Yeah. Small world.” Wasn’t as though Greenville, South Carolina was a metropolis of any kind. Just a nice sized Southern city, not too far from a bigger one up the interstate. “Guess it is a little strange,” he added.
“Maybe it’s good mojo with you and Jay living nearby.”
Josh laughed. “Maybe.” He wasn’t a romantic in any way. That was Jay’s thing. He was the flowers and hearts guy. But just this once, Josh couldn’t help thinking that maybe it was fate intervening for a bit on their behalf.
He’d driven by the small house hundreds of times. He had to in order to get out to the main road. He’d never even paid attention to it, always lost in his own thoughts and mentally preparing himself for the days ahead on the job. He’d never once considered that inside would be the woman he had an insane attraction to even though he’d never actually met her.
“Man, I can’t wait to get home and get some shut eye,” Tommy said as he unsnapped the front of his jacket. The suits were meant to protect them, but were damn stifling at times. Even without much of a breeze outside, it felt good to let a little air touch their sweat soaked t-shirts and necks above their undershirts.
“Yeah,” Josh agreed. “That call yesterday afternoon was a bitch.” An older office building had gone up in flames after lightning hit near a breaker box. The wiring had been old to begin with and the building was empty save for some old furniture that was so brittle and dry and turned to ash as soon as the flames hit it.
