Last night he had been helping her cook although he admitted he’d never done more than make a sandwich before. He stood at the counter grating cheese for the enchiladas she was making. “That oil sounds hot, darlin’,” he commented as he watched her fry up the corn tortillas at the stove. He came up behind her and softly kissed her neck, sending shivers up her spine. “Let me do that part.”
“Worried I will burn your dinner?” she teased, smiling at him.
“I don’t want you to hurt yourself,” he answered seriously, taking over and moving her away to grate the cheese. She watched him, loving how sweet and caring he was toward her. No other past boyfriends had ever treated her with such thoughtfulness and she reveled in it. She couldn’t help but laugh when he cursed under his breath every time hot oil splattered on his skin.
Ryan turned to look at her with a smile, loving to hear her joyful laugh. “Something funny, ma’am?”
“Yes. You. I can do that, Ryan,” she assured him, laughing when he dropped the spoon and cursed because he had to get a clean one out of the drawer. “Your mom is so wonderful in the kitchen that I can’t believe she didn’t teach you.”
“Oh, she tried but she said I was hopeless. Now quit distracting me with your chatter, woman. This is hard work,” he teased. Lacy finished grating the cheese quickly and watched Ryan moving around at the stove still muttering under his breath. She could see dinners would never be boring with him around. It brought a warm feeling to her heart.
Sometimes they’d snuggle on the couch and watch TV and say nothing at all but she still enjoyed those times, too. He gave her hot, scorching kisses that burned inside of her before he went home, but he never took it any further or seemed tempted to. Maybe that was why she was feeling apprehensive. She was blown away by his kisses, but he’d just smile as if unaffected and say good-bye.
Stella laughed while standing on a ladder and hanging a cardboard jack-o-lantern from the ceiling. “Honey, can’t you see that guy has it bad for you? He comes in here every day for lunch and watches you with such a possessive look when you’re moving around the diner. He’s making sure no one else makes a move on you. I bet he doesn’t even notice what he eats. I gotta tell you, I never saw him look at Emma that way, not once.”
“Really?” That sounds promising, Lacy thought. She hated the thought of him being in love with someone else. She felt very possessive and jealous about him already. She set a tiny jack-o-lantern down in the middle of the table she was decorating.
“Uh-huh,” Stella continued. “And the looks he gives you are not the ‘I wanna be friends’ look but the ‘I want you naked’ look. And I saw that hot kiss he gave you before he left earlier. Trust me, honey, he was letting all the males know you are his now. Didn’t he take you dancing at Thorn’s the other night because he didn’t want Logan teaching you how to line dance anymore?”
Lacy blushed, but that made her feel more confident. Luckily she had let Liz talk her into buying a sexy, lacy, hot-pink bra and matching thong. It was coming out of the closet tonight. “So you think I should seduce him like Liz said? But what if he rejects me?”
Stella gave her an “are you crazy” look and went back to hanging up the decorations, shaking her head and laughing. “Go get your man, girl, and stop overthinking it.”

That night Lacy and Ryan were sitting on the couch. Ryan was looking at the TV. He is such a sexy man, she thought to herself. She could already feel moistness gathering between her thighs. She had been aroused all afternoon thinking of Ryan. This was exciting, her first seduction. She had had two lovers in the past, but both relationships had fizzled out quickly, leaving her hurt and disappointed. What she didn’t have in experience she could make up for in imagination. She read plenty of romance books.
She leaned over and inhaled his wonderful scent that she loved. It reminded her of the smell of pine and fresh air. She bit his earlobe playfully and felt him shiver. That gave her the confidence to kiss the corner of his mouth, licking his lips softly. She kissed his cheek and neck and put her hands under his shirt, sliding them up to his chest, playing with his nipples, pinching them lightly. His breathing was getting heavier. “You’re playing with fire, darlin’.”
She sat up and took her T-shirt off, so that she was clad only in her new hot-pink lacy bra, her large breasts barely contained in it. “Are you on fire now or do you need more?”
He was staring at her breasts with so much lust. She took that as a good sign and reached back and bravely unclipped her bra. She’d never been this bold before, but the advice she had gotten from Stella and Liz gave her the confidence she needed. She was already so turned on she was surprised she wasn’t on fire.
Ryan thought her breasts were large but firm. Her nipples were hard and pink and so tempting.
“Oh, I’m on fire now, baby.” He looked her over then leaned toward her and licked one nipple tenderly, teasing her, then sucked on the other one. He pinched her nipples softly. She was trembling from the sensations of him sucking her nipple and squeezing the other one at the same time.
“I knew they’d be beautiful, darlin’,” he whispered lovingly, rubbing the tip of her erect nipple back and forth with his finger, driving her crazy.
He stood up and took her by the hand and led her to the bedroom. He helped her strip off her jeans, leaving on her matching hot-pink thong. Her skin was a warm tan color and he couldn’t wait to explore every inch of it. He felt like a kid in a candy store. She had curves in all the right places. I am a lucky man, he thought to himself. “You are one sexy lady, Ms. Martinez. I’ve wanted you for so long now.”
“Why the wait then?” she asked.
“I wanted you to feel ready and not rushed into something you’d regret,” he explained, looking at her with tenderness and care. “In case you’re worried, I’m clean. I had Doc check me out and he gave me a clean bill of health.”
She nodded. “Thank you for that. It’s been two years since I’ve had a lover but I’m on the pill and my last physical was clear, too.”
She took off her thong, wanting him more by the second, and looked at him as he took off his clothes in a hurry. He was spectacular, lean but muscular and firm all over and his cock was long, thick, and hard and glistening with pre-cum already.
It had been a long time for her, so she was a little nervous but excited, too. She knew she was already wet and ready for him.
Ryan laid her on the bed, looking at her nude body with such anticipation. “I’ve wanted to strip you and kiss every inch of you since the first day I saw you at the diner, but there were too many people around.” He explored all her curves softly with his hands as he talked.
She laughed, enjoying his sense of humor. “You perv,” she said, playfully running her hands up and down his chest, feeling his hard muscles. “We’re alone now though,” she invited him.
He gave her a sexy, wolfish grin and leaned down to kiss her lips softly then nipped at her neck lightly with his teeth as she tilted her head to give him better access. He kissed and licked the hollow of her shoulder and worked his way down to her breasts and licked each nipple over and over, making her moan.
Ryan took his time driving Lacy crazy with frustration. He wanted to make this good for her. He worked his way down her stomach till he reached her mound. It was dripping with wetness. He opened her pink folds and couldn’t resist. He licked her cream up with his tongue, going up and down, and put his fingers in her sheath, first one then two, moving them around till she moaned louder. He sucked on her clit and each swipe of his tongue sent shockwaves through her body. She was getting wetter by the second.
“That feels so good,” she admitted with a soft moan, her body writhing in passion. “But this was supposed to be my seduction, Ryan.”
“Were you trying to seduce the sheriff, you naughty girl?” He laughed. “I might have to punish you for that crime.” He grabbed her ass, which brought her pussy closer to his mouth, and he licked deep inside of
her until she was screaming in pleasure and arching up toward him for more.
She had never played during sex but with Ryan she liked it. “Oh yes, punish me, Sheriff, I’m a naughty girl.” She pouted provocatively, looking at him with a sexy smile.
She screeched in surprise when he suddenly flipped her onto her stomach. He squeezed her butt cheeks firmly then he gave her ass a slap. It stung but she was surprised to find she liked it. “I’ve had an eye on this luscious ass every time you walked by me. One day it will be mine,” he promised and gave her another playful slap and she screeched so he gave her a kiss on the spot he spanked and laughed. He flipped her back so she was looking at him, her brown eyes shining with passion and something deeper.
“But right now I want to be inside you so bad I can’t wait one second longer. I feel like I’m going to explode any second.” He slid the head of his cock into her slowly and groaned. She fit him so perfectly, so hot and tight like a glove. “Baby, you are burning me up.”
He plunged all the way in and gave her a moment to adjust. It was a snug fit. Then he pumped into her, going slow so it wouldn’t end quickly. It felt so amazing to finally be inside of her after a horrible week filled with ice-cold showers. He hadn’t wanted her to think all he wanted was sex, especially since he had already hurt her once. What a mistake that had been! Lacy was special to him and he wanted to prove it to her and do things the right way, even if it killed him. Giving her time to trust him had been worth it. She clearly trusted him if she was the one initiating sex. Trust was what he had been waiting for and it came faster than he had hoped.
She was grabbing on to his shoulders with all her might as he plunged into her body. She put her legs around his waist, holding him tight. He pushed into her deeper, controlling the pace with his own body. He started going faster and harder, feeling his balls slapping on her ass each time he plunged in and out. He leaned down, kissing her neck and collarbone, nipping the skin lightly with his teeth. She shivered in pleasure and bit his chest, making him groan and mutter “Witch.”
He kept on going in and out, over and over, driving her crazy with passion, whispering to her how sexy and beautiful she was. She tightened her muscles up and could feel her climax reaching its peak. Soon they were both yelling each other’s names as they came together in an explosive climax. Her body was trembling with aftershocks and he waited a minute before he slipped out of her body slowly.
She laid her head on his chest, moving her fingers up and down softly on his chest, feeling so relaxed. “That was amazing, Ryan. I’ve never felt anything so wonderful,” she said with honesty, kissing his chest softly.
She felt him kiss the hair on her head. Ryan was enjoying the feel of her in his arms. He felt peaceful, something he’d never felt with another woman. He usually left right after sex, feeling awkward. “It’s you, Lacy. You are a sex goddess.”
Lacy giggled. “No one’s ever called me that before.”
“Well, then the men in Detroit are oblivious and their loss is my gain because I’m keeping you.” He squeezed her gently.
She wanted to ask for how long but didn’t want to ruin the moment. She didn’t want him to feel like she was pressuring him because they had sex. Instead she leaned over him and kissed his lips, running her tongue along his bottom lip. He was such a sexy man. “I didn’t finish getting to seduce you.”
Lacy pouted her lips like a little girl, looking down at Ryan. He bit her lips lightly with his teeth. “Next time, darlin’.”
“Hey.” She swatted his chest playfully, laughing with all the joy she felt at just lying next to him.
Chapter Eight
“I have to make rounds up at the park. Want to go with me?” Ryan asked. He had stopped at her place to ask her. He loved spending time with Lacy. Since they had made love a few days ago he felt the bond between them growing. He was discovering that he enjoyed her company no matter what they were doing. She was the first woman he’d ever felt so comfortable with that it felt like they’d known each other for years instead of weeks. She had mentioned to him that she had never been camping or done any outdoor activities before and was kind of intimidated at the thought of being surrounded by so many trees and nature. He wanted her to feel comfortable with it since the outdoors was such a big part of his life. Not only because of work, but because he enjoyed fishing and hunting in his leisure time, too, and for the first time was thinking long-term with a woman. In such a short time Lacy had embedded herself into his heart.
“Sure sounds good,” she agreed happily, grabbing her jacket and brushing her hair. “Lead the way, Sheriff.” They drove in his sheriff’s Jeep since he was on duty, checking the park to make sure the visitors were doing okay and there were no troublemakers around.
“It is beautiful,” Lacy admitted, looking out the window as they drove. She had never seen so many green trees and hills of grass before. The scenery looked like it had jumped out of a picture book, and it amazed her.
“One day when it’s warm again, we’ll camp overnight. It’s fun,” he told her, and when he looked over at her and saw her nervous look he teased her. “I’ll protect you from the big bad wolf.”
“Wolf? The kind that eat people?” she said nervously, looking out the window again as if one was about to appear out of nowhere.
He laughed loudly, parking the Jeep and taking her hand in his. “I’m kidding, darlin’. There is nothing out here that will eat you, baby—except me.”
Lacy blushed but giggled. “You are so naughty, Sheriff.”
He took her to a small river in the park. It was beautiful. The water was clear and crisp. There were a few campsites scattered around and some canoes filled with fishermen in the water. They sat on a big boulder and watched a few of them fish. The sun was shining bright and it made her feel warm even though the temperature was low. Maybe I need to try new things, she thought to herself. The outdoors was a big part of Ryan’s life, and if she hoped to share that life with him someday, she had to learn about his world. He told her that in the summer it was a busy place and that he, Gabe, and Logan took turns coming out here to make sure there were no problems.
Lacy admitted to Ryan on the way home that she had enjoyed herself more than she thought she would. He told her how he and his dad would camp often when he was a child and he missed that. Lacy promised to try it with him one day.
“I’ll have you trained to be a professional camper in no time, darlin’,” he teased, holding her hand and squeezing it. “Maybe even a seasoned hunter.”
“Whoa there, tiger. Camping out sounds fun, killing Bambi not so much,” she joked with him.
He just laughed with her, enjoying his time in her company.
* * * *
A few days later, Stella was at a table cooing over a customer’s baby. She and her husband were trying to have a baby of their own. Stella swore she heard her biological clock ticking and loved to fuss over any of the babies coming into the diner to get “practice” as she put it. Lacy saw a woman come in. She was petite and very thin with short, spiky bright-red hair, dressed in tight jeans, heels and a purple blouse that was low-cut. A little overdressed, Lacy thought to herself. She sat at the counter, so Lacy went to wait on her instead of bothering Stella.
Lacy smiled. “Hi, our special today is—”
“Save it. I don’t give a damn what the specials are,” she said, her blue eyes sparkling with hatred as she looked at Lacy.
“Okay,” Lacy said. Obviously this was going to be a difficult customer, but she’d had plenty of those before and decided to be patient.
“I just came to see my replacement—in more ways than one, from what I hear,” she said with a sneer, looking Lacy up and down with anger. “I don’t see anything special about you. You’re not as pretty as me.”
Lacy gasped and gave the woman a puzzled look. How was she supposed to respond to that? The woman looked a few years older than Lacy, and Lacy had never seen her in here before. Before Lacy could think of anything t
o say, Ally came stomping out of the kitchen with her apron still on and looking very angry.
“You have a lot of nerve coming in here, Emma!” she said loudly and angrily. Lacy had never seen Ally so upset before and was a little shocked.
Suddenly Lacy understood when she heard the name. This was Ryan’s ex-girlfriend! Oh boy, this couldn’t end well. Thank God Ryan wasn’t here or this could get worse.
“You’d better leave, Emma, and don’t come back. You are no longer welcome in my place. Ryan won’t like finding you here trying to harass Lacy either. He’s moved on. Can’t you see that and leave him alone?” Ally told her, pointing to the door. From Helen, she had finally learned how Emma was stalking Ryan, and that blew her top. No one messed with her son, especially some no-good hussy like Emma. “Have a little pride in yourself, Emma, and leave Ryan alone. Stop calling him ten times a day crying.”
Emma snorted with disdain, giving Ally an angry look. She knew people in the diner had heard that remark. She had told all her friends that she dumped Ryan because he was so serious and boring. She knew how the people in this diner were. They would have it spread all over town that she was harassing Ryan and begging him to take her back. She didn’t want anyone knowing Ryan had dumped her. “Oh, so poor Ryan needs his momma’s protection now? I don’t care what Ryan thinks. He’s nothing but a—”
“A what?” They turned to see a very angry-looking sheriff standing behind them with his hands at his hips. He was glaring at Emma.
How dare Emma come here and cause trouble? He never made her any promises or asked her to have a serious relationship. They dated casually and even that had been a big mistake that he deeply regretted. She had been clingy from the very beginning and constantly tried to get him to marry her until he got fed up and broke it off with her, and yet she still harassed him and tried to make him feel guilty, but no more. Harassing him was one thing, but no way would he let her cause Lacy or his mom any trouble.
