THE HARDEST YARDS (A BAD BOY FOOTBALL ROMANCE) Page 31

My fingers reached out, touching the metal, pulling it free from its confines. Acre stared silently as I lifted it up and rolled the beautifully balanced handgun left and right before popping the clip, checking it, and slamming it back home.

“Didn’t know you were that kind of girl,” Acre said, grinning at me.

“A girl needs to have a little protection.”

“You know how to use it?”

“I’ve put in some hours at the range…”

“That’ll work,” Acre replied as I pulled a small leather holster from the box, sliding the gun home and placing it into my purse.

“Lets get out of here Cat.”

"Yes, lets get the hell out of here…"

We nodded at each other and I followed Acre out the door with my head down. The trip back to the bike was like walking a tightrope between two high rises. My heart was racing, my eyes flashing left and right as though Jude could step out from anywhere. Acre took the small piece of luggage that had suddenly become everything I owned and he shoved it into one of his bike’s big side leather saddle bags. I feigned a smile as I strapped the helmet back over my head. Climbing back on, we rode away, the exhilaration of the road no longer outweighing the fear I was feeling. I could feel the lump in my purse as it tucked in under my arm, especially with how hard I was holding onto Acre’s body. He patted my leg reassuringly before we rocketed back onto the freeway.

They’ll keep me safe… I thought to myself, pressing my arm back down on the gun I had tucked away.

  I’ll keep myself safe.

"For a minute there I thought maybe you ran off with my girl," Break shouted over the roaring engine as we rolled into the warehouse. Acre gave me another pat on the leg as I swung my leg over the bike and landed on my feet. "Looks like somebody's getting used to the ride," Break continued, nodding in appreciation of my dismount.

"Used to ride horses with my dad when I was a kid. Once in the saddle, always in the saddle," I replied, smiling as best I could. Part of me wanted to run to him, to break down and tell him everything I'd seen in the apartment. The other half of me just wanted to be held…

“Is that all you brought,” Break asked, staring at the small bag Acre pulled from the bike?

I felt embarrassed and lost, my cheeks flushing red as I stared at the small bag. Thankfully, Acre broke the silence. “Crazy bastard pissed on her clothes like some kind of animal. We grabbed what we could, but she’s gonna need to stock up if you’re keeping her here.”

“I’m sorry sweetheart,” Break said, closing the gap between us. His hand came down lightly on my cheek, the toughened fingertips sliding under my chin and drawing it up, forcing me to look him in the eye. “He can’t hurt you anymore.”

  “You promise?”

I held my breath as his head came down to mine, capturing my upper lip between his. My hands wrapped around his chest, my body falling into his embrace. By the time the world came back into focus, a few lewd hoots and whistles were coming from the long bar at the far side of the room.

  “What was that for?”

“Can’t help it sweetheart… Your lips make a little pink heart that drives me crazy,”

  “Kiss me again.”

"Anything for my lady," Break replied, pulling me in harder this time, our tongues fencing between needful lips as the warmth of his chest drew into me as if I were drawing the life straight out of him.

"Now, what say we go get you some clothes?"

  "Just you and me?"

Break smiled, grabbing my bag from Acre and pulling me by the hand. "Yes Callie, just you and me."

I guess the last thing I expected in the middle of this crazy day was to go on a shopping date with the Broken MC president, but here I was sipping on a margarita in a little Mexican restaurant near the outlet malls. The ride up had been beautiful, climbing into the mountains east of San Diego on the back of Break’s bike. It was almost like flying without a care in the world.

  “Would you care for another?”

I looked up lazily at the waitress, then back down to the oversized margarita glass. “Yes, please,” I replied, smiling widely.

Break had left me alone for a moment. He’d been at my side all afternoon helping me pick things to wear. I’d even done a little modeling for him in one of the dressing rooms. My body flushed red as I shifted my thighs. Break had been particularly fond of a skirt I tried on, and in his haste to demonstrate his sudden interest, he destroyed my panties and left them in tatters on the floor… The skirt was still on, he told me to wear it out, but Break wouldn’t let me put anything on underneath.

  He’s dangerous.

My thoughts were filled as much with fear as they were with desire. Break, the ultimate bad boy, leader of the MC… He held a phone to his ear standing in a quiet corner and I could see the tension as he spoke quietly to someone on the other end of the line. Something important was happening. Still, Break hung up, pressed the phone back into his pocket, and returned to the table smiling.

“Is everything ok?” I asked as he sat back down.

“It’s fine Callie, just some club business.”

I wasn’t sure of Break’s sincerity, something had certainly seemed to be a problem when he took that call. He’d been on damage control all afternoon, sending off text messages and making phone calls in between our little shopping trip. To anyone outside our little world, they might have seen a pretty blond and her big tattooed boyfriend having a little fun. Little did they know the things Break was involved in, the things he was capable of… Then it hit me…

  Club business…

Break hadn’t taken me out to spend time with me, he’d taken me out to be away from whatever the club was doing today… I was some kind of alibi!

“Did you mean it?” I asked. Break stared at me, cocking his head to the side with a puzzled look on his face. He started to open his mouth to respond, but I cut him off with a whisper. “You said you want to make the Broken legit… Did you mean it?”

Break chuckled, “Sweetheart, my father spent more time in prison than he did at home. He got the club into guns, and drugs. Fuck, for awhile there that warehouse we call home was a goddamned meth lab.”

My eyes shot left and right, Break wasn’t trying to be quiet, but far as I could tell nobody was paying attention. He reached across the table, putting a finger on my chin and pulling it back to look at him.

“I don’t want to live like that Callie. I’m not my father. The club has property up and down the west coast. We’ve already set up a couple businesses…”

“You mean like that brothel in the back of the club?”

  “That’s a massage parlor.”

“Specializing in deep, deep tissue massage, right?”

Break laughed, his eyes sparkling in the late afternoon light as it streamed in a nearby window. “I said we’re going legit, but the guys still need a little excitement. We’re opening up two strip clubs in LA and a few more massage parlors. Pussy pays the bills, and brothers don’t end up with their names on a piece of the patch.”

  “That’s what you call legit?”

“Honey, if you want a good boy that can wear the white gloves maybe you should go find yourself an accountant.”

I let out a little laugh, admiring Break’s curled smile and the way the lines creased his face. It was something I didn’t see enough, and hoped I’d see more. Still, a little voice was eating away at my mind. If Break was getting the club into women…….

“And how about you Break? You going to be busy getting a little excitement too?”

My eyes were welling up, thinking back to Jude and the way he used poor Mina. Break’s face went hard as stone.

“Never. I’m a one woman kind of man.”

“Then where is your woman?” I asked, immediately regretting the question. “I mean, why weren’t you already taken?”

Break pushed a hand into a pocket
of his cut, pulling free a thin chain and laying it on the table. Hung from the chain was a thick gold ring. “She died three years ago,” he said, his voice heavy.

A cold silence fell, the kind of moment that made you want to crawl into a dark place and curl up into a ball. I’d touched a nerve and I knew it. Break had never looked so broken……

  “I’m sorry…” I whispered.

Break’s hand slipped up my cheek, fingertips running along the bottom of my jaw toward my ear. “Don’t be sorry. We’re all living on borrowed time sweetheart. She lived her life fast and hard. I admired her for that. I loved her for that.”

“How did she…” I began to ask, voice breaking as tears started to run down my cheek. Break wiped them free, sweeping a thumb over the cool wet line.

“Cancer. No cause for it. Sometimes it’s just a person’s time, no matter how healthy they’re living.”

I didn’t reply, but I didn’t have to. My eyes watered, staring at Break with my heart aching.

“Sweetheart, not a day goes by that I don’t miss her, but she made me stronger. She made me better. She would want me to be happy.”

“And what would make you happy, Shawn Break?”

“Was hoping you’d help me out with that one.”

“Tell me why we’re here and not at the clubhouse. What’s going on back there Break?” I asked, making it clear I understood what this little shopping trip was really about.

“There are things you’d be better off not knowing.”

Maybe he was right. Maybe I didn’t want to know. I could see a hint of pain still floating around in his dark eyes. I’d hurt him today. I’d made him think of things he wanted to leave buried.

We sat silently for awhile as I stared at the big full margarita the waitress had finally brought by. The happy buzz of alcohol was gone. I closed my eyes, barely able to contain my emotion. All this time I’d been so focused on my own messed up past that I couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Maybe I was broken, but so was Break. Two broken souls, lost and drifting. I didn’t wait any longer, I leaned toward him.

The gentle touch of lips on my own sent a shiver clean down my spine. Part of me expected it to hurt, like my body might reject this… Instead, a warm feeling rolled over me from my toes on up. I dove passionately into the kiss, Break’s hands running through my hair and down my back as our mouths danced and pressed together. The moment lingered for an eternity, my body lifting from the seat as Shawn lifted me into him. My emotions were overwhelmed by passion as my feet left the floor, a guttural moan vibrating my tongue before my eyes flashed open.

  Dark Blue…

I stared into his eyes as our lips parted, the sounds of the world crashing back into existence.

“We can go home now, Callie?”

“Only if you promise to kiss me again…”

“I plan on doing more than kissing.”

My hand swept down his body, across his thigh, resting on the hard object of my desire that was swelling and straining down the left leg of his jeans.

  “So do I,” I replied.

  ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼

The ride back the club was incredible, our path lit by a vibrant red sky as the sun set before us. My skirt hiked up as I straddled the seat, the delicate folds of my pussy pressing directly on the leather, vibrations from the engine driving me wild. I held Break, pressing my breasts into his back as my hand reached around and stroked him teasingly through his jeans. His hand worked the throttle, revving the engine as we rolled down the freeway toward the clubhouse, the pulsations of speed driving me wild. It wasn’t long before I couldn’t help myself. An unbelievable orgasm wracked my body as I shuddered against Break. He knew what he was doing. He played my pussy like an instrument with the vibrations of the engine. When we finally reached the clubhouse, Break wasted no time. He slammed the kickstand down, hopping off the bike and pulling me straight off with him, carrying me like a freshly married bride going over the threshold.

“What about my clothes?” I asked, staring back at the saddle bags on the bike.

“You won’t be needing them tonight,” Break responded, kicking his way into the board room as members of the club cheered and whistled behind us. My body flushed with excitement as I stared at the door that would lead to Break’s room, but he had other ideas, swinging me round and putting my feet on the floor, shoving me over the heavy wooden table. I gasped as he flipped my skirt up over my back.

“There it is honey, you stay just like that,” Break said huskily as I listened to the sound of his belt unclasping and being pulled free. “Tell me,” he whispered, “How do you want it?”

I bit my lip, turning my head to the side so I could look Break in the eyes. He stared back and it seemed as if we were both holding our breath.

  “Fuck me hard Break...”

“Is that so Callie?” he asked. “You want this cock?”

His hand came down on my exposed flesh, a loud smack as his palm connected with my ass, sending a mixed message of pain and pleasure coursing through me.

“Is that all you’ve got?” I said, still grinning like a fool. “Fuck me Break. Fuck me now!”

The club was making even more noise. It turned me on, knowing the door was still wide open behind us. Knowing they were watching.

Break gripped my hips, lining himself up with my wet tunnel. My body was ready, I was born ready… Everything in my life had led up to this moment, with the head of Break’s cock pressing between the lips of my pussy.

  “Please,” I whispered, pleading, desperate.

His cock slid past my entrance, the long shaft rubbing below my clit, my wetness practically pouring over him as he pushed forward then pulled back.

  “Say it again.”

I stared back at Break, his eyes wild, his body flexed with every muscle and sinew standing at attention.

  “Please!” I shouted.

“Please what?” Break asked, his hand coming down again, smacking my ass even harder, my body quivering as he pressed my chest flat against the table with his free hand.

  “Fuck me hard, PLEASE!”

Break thrusted hard and deep, our bodies coming together in a harmony of flesh and desire. My hips rocked uncontrollably, his cock sliding in and out with every motion between us. Moans became wild gasps and cries of pleasure and my eyes lost focus. My hands swung in front of me, pressing my chest up off the table just enough to angle his cock forward. He pressed impossibly deep, crashing into me and pressing against the inside of my abdomen with every thrust.

  “This pussy is my property!”

“Oh yes! Oh GOD yes!” I screamed.

“Oh fuck sweetheart… Fucking tight…” Break gasped, his hand reaching up and weaving itself through my hair, tugging my head back as he slammed home harder and harder. I wanted it hard, and he gave it to me. My thoughts melted away, replaced by the primal need. Nothing else mattered. He fucked me hard, but it was more than that. My heart raced, waves of pleasure rocking us both, his cock pulsing and exploding within me. I couldn’t get enough. Our pace continued as my body rejoiced at his stamina. This is what I’d been missing my whole life. This is what I was looking for all along… I didn’t care if the whole world saw us like this.

  Break was mine…

  And I was his.

  ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼

I lay next to Break, my exhausted body held in his arms as I watched the rise and fall of his chest in the dimly lit room. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you, sweetheart,” Break whispered. I didn’t answer, my fingertips raked softly across his chest. He let out a little sigh as my fingers dipped lower, rolling over his abs ever so lightly. “Need some sleep, long day tomorrow, you about killed me baby…”

I let out a little sigh of my own as he pulled his arm free and rolled over, but my fingertips kept right on touching him as if he’d disappear if I broke contact. My nails stroked across his back, tickling his skin ever so lightly and slowly. Break let out a low moan, his voi
ce barely there beneath the guttural sound of joy. “Don’t stop sweetheart, that feels so nice…”

I’ll never stop… I thought to myself, fingers dancing on his muscular shoulders, tracing down the line of his spine and back up again. His breathing slowed, and soon, he was asleep. My body tucked into him, breasts pressed into his cool back, a fan on the ceiling washing air over us. I didn’t know what the future held, but there was at least one thing I was certain of. Shawn Break was going to be a part of it. My eyes closed, lips touching his shoulder as I gave him one last little kiss goodnight.

Dreams took me much faster than I was used to, all the tension draining out of my body like so much water through my open fingertips. I was happy. The sun shined on my face, warmth spilling through my exposed skin as I stood with arms open on a high ledge. Across a wide canyon, I could see Shawn smiling back at me. He was waving, as if I should step into the void and walk to him. I looked down, lifting a bare foot and tentatively stretching it out over the open air. Somehow, I knew the air would hold me if I just trusted in myself. The leap of faith, a single step toward Shawn Break and the future we deserved together. My foot fell toward the invisible walkway I knew must surely be there. Lower and lower in the air, my balance swinging forward toward the edge, I held my breath and stepped out with all my weight.

  “No.”

The voice caught as hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me back from the edge. I stared across at Shawn, watching him turn his back and walk away. My whole body filled with anger and terror as I found myself spun in place.

  Murder eyes…

Jude stood there with a wicked grin on his face, his face twisted and contorted into some crude and evil version of himself. My vision blurred, my breath coming in ragged gasps. The ghastly visage reached out, his hand wrapped around a pistol aimed straight at my chest. In half awareness of the dream I tried to wake up, stepping back from the cruelness and evil before me. My feet came to the edge, nothing behind me but a sheer drop. Break had left me to my fate, no hero was coming for me. Terror consumed me as I took the final step, my body tumbling down an endless drop as Jude laughed. The sound of air rushing past filled my ears as my eyes snapped open.
