Teena handed the radio to Tom and the rest made their way over to the command tent.
“Reggie, I want you to meet David Smith. He’s one of Dad’s security force and I trust him with my life.”
“Thinks, JC. Now go with your father. I will take care of things here.”
When the three shooting victims were loaded into the ambulance and on their way to the hospital, Reggie turned to David. “David, I’m Chief Warrant Officer Regina Stone, call me Reggie,” she said, extending her hand to him. Dave shook her hand and asked how he could help. “Dave, I need the bodies identified for everyone. Do you have more men we can use for security, if not, I can use the rest of my team?”
“I will have the rest of my team here in ten minutes and I know the three men by the plane, the others I don’t know how we can identify and, Reggie, call me Dave please.”
They walked to the women’s tent. Reggie went in and Dave waited outside and called his team in. Reggie emerged with a digital camera.
“Here, use this. Get pictures of their faces. We have facial recognition software in the command center, so come over there when you are done. Also, if anyone comes in the area and won’t identify themselves, detain them and send someone to come get me. If you have any problems come get me. You are in charge out here and you answer to no one but me.”
“My team is on their way from the other side of the base and will be here shortly, and I’ll get right to everything myself, once they arrive.”
Reggie went to the command tent. When she entered, she looked at a tired group of men. Someone had made coffee. Reggie went to the desk the Colonel had set up and removed some pads and pens.
“I need you all to write out what happened out there tonight,” Reggie said, as she handed a pad and pen to each team member. Eight members sat around the table writing and drinking coffee. Reggie would get the others at the hospital as soon as they were capable to.
An hour had passed when Dave entered the tent. He gave the camera to Reggie. She motioned Chris to follow her to the computer.
Hooking up the camera, she ran the program. “Chris, I’m going over to the hospital to see what’s happening. This is Dave smith, he’s in charge outside. He works for Doug. When you get these guys identified, send someone over to the hospital to get me.”
“Okay, Reggie, once everyone’s finished with their statements, I’ll send the guys back to bed.”
“That’s fine, Chris,” Reggie said, turning to Teena. “Do you want to come with me? I kind of figured you wouldn’t want to be in the tent alone until one of us gets back?”
“Thanks, Reggie, you’re right. I wouldn’t want to shoot one of you guys if you happen to wake me up from a deep sleep,” she said, laughing with Reggie.
Reggie had picked up the holsters when she took the camera from the tent, so she gave Teena hers and after putting her holster on, she took the three others with them to the hospital. She remembered that the other three women were all dressed in boxers, so sticking a gun down the small of the back wouldn’t work. She had a funny feeling Sean wasn’t going to part with her Glocks.
JC walked up to Reggie, as she entered the hospital. Hugging her, she wanted to know how everyone was doing.
“Dad just went into surgery. He has a bullet in his shoulder but he’s going to be okay. As for Sean, I think Linley is going to kill her for going behind the tent with you. She was shot in the leg and a bullet grazed her arm. She’s fine. Linley is making her get stitched up now. As for Bill, they haven’t told us a thing.”
“Okay, I will go see if I can find out any information from the head nurse.” Reggie walked up to the nurse’s counter. “Captain, can you help me please?” she asked the nurse who was sitting behind the counter.
“What can I do for you?”
“I’m Chief Warrant Officer Stone and I’m looking for information on Colonel Parent. He’s my commanding officer and I need to know if his injuries are serious enough to call his wife?”
“Chief, he’s going to be okay. He has a few wounds but nothing life threatening.”
“Thank you, Captain, I’m sorry but I’m going to leave a guard here for both him and Major Mackenzie, until they are released from your care.” She walked back to the others and told them what was going on with the Colonel and that he was going to be fine. She instructed Tom to stay. Linley, Sean, Teena and JC accompanied her back to the command tent.
Dave ran to them just before they reached the tent. “Reggie, you’re not going to believe what we found.”
“Well, what did you find out?”
“Okay, we got twelve bad guys and they’ve all been identified as rogue CIA agents who were pronounced dead years ago. They died on the job from what their records said.”
“Shit, this just keeps getting stranger and stranger. I’m going to have to wait for the Colonel to see what we can do about this.”
Walking into the tent, the only one left from her team was Chris. He was going through the statements. They had been asleep when they were woken at the same time as the women were. Both the Colonel and Major didn’t make it to the door, when they were hit from the first volley of shots. After that, someone kept firing at the front and back of the tent, until the women came to the rescue.
“Does anyone know what they were after?”
“I think it was what the Colonel and Major stored in the safe on board,” Dave said.
“Well, we might as well head to bed too, since we won’t be able to get any answers until tomorrow.”
Over the next two days the team learned that the Major and Colonel found out all the activities of the terrorist cell—who were involved, where things were going to happen and when.
The documents named all the dead men and more. Most of all, there was a list of high ranking personnel in both countries who were on the take, one way or another. It seemed when the team took out the cell, they had opened up a huge can of worms. The team weren’t worried, because the Colonel would be passing all the information to those who needed it and someone would have to clean up the problem.
The team were scheduled to fly home the next morning. They had had enough of the dessert and didn’t want to come back if any of them could help it. It was decided that Teena and JC would be the pilots flying home. The Major was mobile but his shoulder took away from his reflects and he wasn’t going to take a chance with the teams lives.
The Major’s security force had done all the security for the team and the plane, so Reggie’s team were well rested. This time, they didn’t associate with anyone on the base. Reggie spent time writing reports and getting files ready from the shooting incident. The one question the guys wanted answers to, was what really happened behind the men’s tent. None of them got to read Sean’s, Reggie’s or Teena’s report, so the Colonel and Major were the only ones who knew. Unless Chris could get one of them to talk.
The next morning after the gear was loaded and everyone climbed on board, JC took off for Canada. Chris first tried Teena to get her to tell them what happened but she wouldn’t, and the way Linley looked at Sean, she wasn’t going to say anything. When Teena took over the controls from JC, Doug went up to the cockpit to keep her company.
JC went to the back and sat next to Reggie. Everyone looked to the front of the plane, to see if the cockpit door was closed.
When the Colonel saw for himself that it was indeed closed, he looked over to Reggie. “Go ahead, Chief, tell them what happened behind the tent.”
“Well, it went like this. Linley and JC snuck out the back of the tent and crawled up front, one on each side. Sean, Teena and I went to the back flap and waited for JC and Linley to give us the all clear. They were keeping the men in front of your tent occupied. When the all clear came, the three of us went out the back flap, around the toilet and crawled towards the back of the men’s tent. Then, out of nowhere, a guy came around the corner just in front of us. I didn’t even get a chance to realize what was going on when he fired and shot Sean in the leg.
At the same time, Teena let him have it. She put two bullets between his eyes, the other three turned to see us and she opened fire on them. Guys, neither me, nor Sean got a shot off. She took out all four of them.”
“I kind of figured she had balls when we were being fired on in the dessert. She had the helicopter off the ground and mine and Alex’s straps all set up before we boarded,” Sean told them.
“And then when we were in the city, she was so forceful over the radio. I didn’t know what to think but she warned the team what she was going to do and just did it. Then she hovered the helicopter and shot the guy running down the alley, with her left hand,” Alex threw in.
“Well, it looks like there’s more than meets the eye, when it comes to Teena. Maybe we should dig a little deeper into her past, or I can just ask Doug. He hired her and I know he does an extensive check before he hires anyone,” the Colonel told them.
They all relaxed for the remainder of the flight. When the plane finally landed on the tarmac at Pearson International Airport cargo area, they got their gear and exited the plane. Chris’s wife was there, along with Rick’s, Steve’s, and Jason’s. The girlfriends were there, waiting for the rest of the guy’s. Doug’s wife Pat, was there waiting for him and Rebecca had showed up to meet Teena. She was surprised as this was the first time anyone had met her after a flight. The Colonel’s wife was the last to arrive and she was responsible for the family member’s being there. The colonel called everyone together before the deuce and a half arrived to collect their equipment.
“Attention.” Everyone stood at the command. The girlfriends and wives moved back out of the way, as the Colonel addressed his troops.
“You guys did an awesome job on this mission. You should all be really proud of yourselves. You are now officially on leave for three weeks. You will report in to the Unit on August 16. As for Linley, Sean and Teena, I spoke to all your supervisor’s and you will all report here on the same date. You are also on vacation. Okay, Sean, I didn’t talk to your boss but I will now. Woman, take the three weeks off. Enjoy yourselves and I’ll see you on the 16th.” He walked to his wife with his gear and left, along with Doug and Pat, which left Reggie in charge. The deuce pulled up next to the plane and the team transferred their gear from the plane to the back of the truck.
Reggie called the team together. “Guys, put your rifles in the back of the truck. I know they are all clean. I will return to base with the gear. Take your personal stuff and get the hell out of here, see you on the 16th.”
The guys grabbed their gear and their wives, or girlfriends and got out of there before the Chief changed her mind. The rest of the women joined Reggie in delivering the gear to the Unit. They all needed a good vacation and they were all going to take a vacation, in their own way. Every one of them needed time to relax and reflect on everything they had just been through. Linley, Teena, and Sean didn’t know why they were to report back to the Unit. After unloading and putting everything away, Teena left with Rebecca, while Sean, Linley, Reggie and JC piled into two vehicles and headed to their condos but not before stopping for Chinese food on the way. While eating the Chinese food, they talked about taking a vacation together and all agreed that they would phone Rebecca and Teena and see if they would go with them.
The End, until next time…
