That had been two weeks ago. He hadn't received a reply from them since, but it hadn't exactly been on the top of his priorities either. Miles knew he was going to be in a relationship with a shifter, one way or another, and if this service could make it happen, all the better.
But he wasn't going to complain if it didn't work out. In fact, given how nonexistent his love life was right now, he didn't even dread the prospect of being paired with some potential total losers by the mail-order service!
"Okay, okay," Miles whispered to himself, remembering where he was. He stood up, putting his backpack down on the table to claim it, and then moved to the bookshelves. The last book he had read was a biography of President Truman, and while he enjoyed his biographies, he was feeling like something a little lighter today. He looked up to notice he was in the children's book section and was amused to instantly spot a favorite from his childhood -- The BFG by Roald Dahl.
"Why not," he mused to himself, picking it up. The library's copy was a relatively new edition, borrowed only once before. As soon as he got back to his table, Miles placed the book down and heard his phone vibrate in his pants.
The notes! He remembered, excited to check his phone inbox. He knew that if it was Sarah's notes he was going to have an easier time getting up to date with his class, seeing that she was consistently the class's most active participant.
"Oh good, slides and annotations," he nodded enthusiastically, swiping through Sarah's email. He exited from that message, glancing at the other unread emails he had in his inbox, and was surprised to discover one by someone named Katharine, from Male-Order Mates.
"No way," he whispered, a fresh grin immediately appearing on his face. It had to be a coincidence that he had an email from them just minutes after thinking about the service. A quick look at the email date showed that it had arrived over the weekend, but Miles had honestly not noticed it among all the spam and promotional emails he received every day.
Setting The BFG aside for now, Miles brought his phone to his face, reading the email.
Dear Miles,
Thank you for choosing Male-Order Mates as your matchmaking solutions provider! I'm Katharine, a VIP account handler with the service. I'd like to inform you about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you!
Miles immediately groaned. Already it was starting to sound like a canned form email, probably meant to sell him a paid subscription to improve his odds of finding the perfect mate or something.
You see, normally when we match our users together, we make it a point to share as much information about your prospect to you, so you can identify if you'd like to follow-up on the match opportunity. However, we've got a very special VIP account here who's indicated an interest in your profile. He's a shifter alpha with very noble blood, but I'm afraid that's all I can tell you right now.
Although the client has listed a preference for a shifter mate, our patented algorithm as well as our relationship consultants have pored through your and his account information and we're confident you would be the best possible match for him from our selection of users, and vice versa!
Because of his VIP status we can't reveal too much in an email, so what I'd like to do is invite you to a special one-on-one dinner in the city at a restaurant near our headquarters. Even if it doesn't end up working out, I think you should definitely accept our invitation -- a world-famous chef is going to cook just for you two. In fact, the whole place is going to be booked just for this private dinner!

Miles was suitably intrigued now. This was a blind date! He wondered why a confident shifter alpha needed to be so secretive. Could this just be a standard trait among shifters, particularly the more reclusive types? He knew some bears were known to prefer solitude... but he couldn't really think much beyond that.
I guess I don't really know too much about what these guys are like, he confessed to himself.
Already he was typing a quick reply on his phone touchscreen. "Dear Katharine," he typed, biting his lip as his thumbs sped across the glass, "This sounds super promising. Count me in!"
