The Winter Laird Page 26

by Nancy Scanlon

“I love you, Brianagh MacWilliam,” Nioclas whispered.

“And I love you,” she whispered in return. Their lips met, and Brianagh’s soul breathed in contentment.

  She was home.

I’m very blessed with the people who helped me to realize my dreams. First, my husband, Sean, who (for years!) read the back of my romance novels in a deep, dramatic voice just to hear me laugh. I love you and wouldn’t want to be on this journey with anyone else. I’m thankful for my children, who ate cereal for dinner in the final month of the writing of this book (they didn’t complain…). Thanks to Mom and Dad for ensuring that, growing up, I always had a book or twenty to read, and to my sisters for trying hard not to tease me about my bookworm ways. (It was perhaps the only thing you didn’t tease me about!)

Jill Buckley, Lindsey Miller and Laurie Sylvia—your early feedback helped me to see where my story shined, and where it needed some polishing. My humble thanks for your love of these characters!

To my agent, Victoria Lowes—your unfailing support is invaluable, and your love of Reilly O’Malley matches mine. There are no words for how grateful I am to have you in my corner. I will gladly chat books and dogs and beautiful men with you over lunch any place, any time.

My wonderful editor Randall Klein—you made this story stronger and tighter. When I realized your love of grammar and red pens, I knew we would click. Thank you for your honesty and your edits—both were necessary and welcomed.

To you, dear reader—thank you for taking a chance on me. I hope you enjoyed every second of this book, and will continue on this amazing journey with me.

Last but certainly not least, I need to thank my Nana Miller. At the delicate age of 16, I poured my teenage soul into a novel. When she read it, instead of saying anything, she gave me a proud smile. Her unspoken belief in me gave me much-needed confidence, and I knew then that I would be an author someday. Nana, someday is here, and I know that it wouldn’t be Heaven for you without a book in your hand—and here’s mine. I love you and miss you. This first book is for you. xoxo
