Cruel Abandon Page 29

We pour the wine and then join them, passing out their glasses.

“We were just discussing the next chapter,” Caleb informs Margo and me. “Specifically, your wedding.”

Liam and I trade glances. “It’s coming up,” I say.

We like to joke that we had a tough time picking our wedding party, but that would be a lie. After my attack, Taryn and I grew to be almost inseparable. It only made sense that she’d be my maid of honor, and Liam chose his brother. Caleb, Margo, Eli, and Riley will be beside us. Theo generously offered to officiate.

There was no mention of Lucy Page, and Liam advised we all avoid the issue.

Maybe Theo actually did kill her for stealing his car…

“Then what?” Margo leans forward. “Kids?”

I shrug, glancing at Liam out of the corner of my eye. “Maybe.”

She grins. “Cat will be excited to have a best friend.”

Liam kisses my temple. My heart is impossibly full, even without a child. The ring on my finger, the man of my dreams beside me. Friends. Our journey is only just beginning.

“Maybe soon,” I concede. I fold my legs under myself. “Only time will tell.”

  Wild Fury Sneak Peek

I open my eyes at the click of the door closing. My mother would know better than to interrupt my bath, and Ames hasn’t been home in forever. I glance around the bathroom. It’s all shadows and flickering candles—something I thought might relax me. But now I’m on edge.

It takes me a moment to realize the shadow coming at me isn’t inanimate, and understanding dawns on me.

I grab the side of the tub to haul myself out. Water sloshes around me.

  He’s faster than me, though.

His hands wrap around my throat and shove me back—and then under. It’s a surprisingly quiet attack.

I try to suck in a gasp before I’m fully submerged, but water fills my nose. It burns down my throat. After a few seconds, I open my eyes. He watches me above the water, seeming to consider me.

  He could kill me.

In fact, it’s seeming more and more likely.

His hands squeeze, pressing me to the bottom of the tub. I kick out, but I can’t reach him. A smirk graces his beautiful face, though, for just a second. Like he’s fucking enjoying drowning me in my own bathtub.

In fact, I’d bet on it.

Theo Alistair is probably a psychopath.

My lungs are on fire. The air rushes out, little bubbles escaping for the surface. Black spots flicker at the edge of my vision, creeping closer.

And then he drags me up.

I inhale and immediately go into a coughing fit. If this were a normal situation, I’d probably be a blubbering mess. But he thrives on this sort of chaos, and tears will just feed it.

He’s still holding my throat with both hands, and he yanks me toward him. He doesn’t even seem to care when my wet shoulder and arm collide his chest, and more water sluices onto the floor.

“Where the fuck is my car, Lux?”
