Roseanne began to surface and opened her eyes she looked at me and smiled as she rested her head on my chest. I cleared my throat and apologised for my behaviour the day before as I explained I was only trying to protect her. Roseanne snuggled into me and squeezed me saying in a dreamlike state ‘thank you, I know.’
Then all of a sudden we both sat up and watched a news flash, the scene was opening as the news reader said ‘this a breaking story, 2 people have been shot and killed at a house in Lexington Kentucky after neighbours reported to the police they had heard screams from inside. The police refused to comment on what they found inside or who the persons were who had been shot. It is too soon to speculate about what was found, but some are linking it with the gruesome find in Louisville a few miles away, where the body of a mutilated woman had been found.’
We looked at each other and both said ‘Camilla and Christopher.’ As if on auto pilot we got up and showered then headed out to Lexington. The street was full of reporters and news crew’s standing on top of vans trying to get pictures of the day.
Roseanne spoke with her news colleagues to try and glean as much information as she could for the paper. She was talking into her hand held recorder. Then she returned to me and said ‘we have to find Detective Martin if he’s here, this is too good to give up on.’
Roseanne took out her mobile and called his number he answered as Roseanne asked for a meeting. After a few directions we made our way to another out of the way café. We shook hands with Detective Martin.
He sat down and said ‘look none of this came from me okay?’ We both nodded as he said ‘the two people shot were Camilla and Christopher; the officers who attended had to break into the house, as they went in they were attacked with axes and knives and had to defend themselves, then they found the half eaten body of a woman the same as found in Louisville. Also there was a note left saying that their hiding places had been taken from them. Have you any idea what that means?’ We both looked at each other as we shook our heads.
That was it we headed back to the Bugle on the way Rosanne apologised for her outburst at the church. When we arrived at the Bugle Roseanne typed out her story and presented it to Tom who after reading smiled which was the signal for his approval. The paper was a sell-out as Roseanne cunningly serialised the story making it compelling reading.
We did continue as a couple and eventually married. I smiled at myself as I thought for once the power of the good did overcome evil.
I began reading about other persons who had been fed human flesh; they couldn’t get enough of it. Once they were introduced to human flesh they had become cannibals to satisfy their craving for the taste. This made me cringe to think that I sat listening to Christopher as he told me his story, I had felt sorry for him, but he ended up in partnership with his captor. There were also indications from Detective Martin, that there were others out there, other women as evil and demented as Camilla. So just be careful if you ever find a wallet in the street, be careful, it could be a trap, someone could be waiting for you, to eat you and feed you to others whilst your kept alive!!!
The end, or is it...................?
