Something Real Page 10

  “ . . . eighteen, nineteen, twenty.”

Taylyn removed the blindfold. She blinked, trying to adjust to the bright light. She looked around, finding herself alone in the woods. A snapping twig caught her attention. She looked toward the path and saw Declan walking toward her. He was wearing his high school football jersey, jeans, and sneakers. He had a goofy grin on his face, and she couldn't help but grin back at him. What was he up to?

  “Hey, how’s it going?”

“Well, my best friends kidnapped, blindfolded, and dragged me off into the woods. They left me alone for anyone to come have their way with me. How’s your day going?”

Declan’s brow furrowed. He shrugged. “Humor me and play along, will ya?”

  “Whatever.”

Declan walked closer to her and smiled. “You look amazing tonight.”

“It’s the middle of the afternoon.”

“I’m trying to have a moment here.”

“I’m not sure you’re doing it—”

Her words were cut off with a kiss. Declan kissed her hard. His hands grabbed her hips and pulled her close. She opened her mouth to let his tongue in. He moaned and pulled her even closer to him. Then the kiss was over as suddenly as it started. Declan’s forehead rested against hers. His panting breaths matched her own. She stared deep into his eyes and felt it. Love.

“I’m not pulling away this time.”

  “No.”

“I’m always going to be here for you.”

  “I know.”

“This is how it should have been all those years ago. I should have never pulled away. I should have been there for you.”

  “You’re here now.”

“I am. Now and forever. I love you, Tay.”

  “I . . . me too.”

“It’s okay, you don’t have to say it. I know you’re scared, Tay, but I promise this time it’s different. This time it’s real. I love you. I’ve loved you forever. You were always my baby girl, my angel.”

Taylyn felt the tears falling on her cheeks. For once they weren’t from the pain. They were happy tears. He loved her. She finally had that love she’d always wanted. A real love, a love that would last throughout the ages. “I love you, too,” she whispered.
