by Lisa Andel
"I wasn't such a hard catch, was I?” I snuggled closer, loving the feel of his strength surrounding me.
"There's something I never told you.” He laughed, once, under his breath. “I heard what you said to Terethial, about how you knew he'd moved on because he'd never called you."
"Yeah. He made a good choice, too. I understand they're expecting twins."
"Yeah, well. He never told you that he did call. More than once."
I spun in his arms, and craned my head back so I could see his eyes. “What did you say?"
"When I kissed you at Giselle's I removed your necklace. I had her cast a spell over the charm so that, for a few months, no incoming calls would be received."
"Why, you..."
"I said I would do anything to make you mine.” He cut me off. “The way I looked at it, the elf had all those years; he could have done the same."
"Well...” When he put it that way. “Is there anything else you'd like to get off your chest?"
"That's it.” He grinned at me. “Anything you want to tell me?"
Grinning back, I took a couple of steps away from him, giving his long, lean frame a thorough scan.
"When you kissed me at Giselle's.” He raised his eyebrow at me. “I cast a spell on you so that you'd find the sex with her boring."
"You what?” He took a step towards me, but I danced backwards.
"I couldn't help myself.” He continued to advance, and I backed into the yard.
"No wonder you never asked me about that night.” He feinted left, and when I dodged to the right, he almost got hold of me.
"Hey, all's fair...” He sprang, and I took off running.
He tackled me to the ground in the soft sandy soil that edged the pond. Rolling me onto my back, trapping my hands on either side of my head, he stared down at me.
"Thank God I met you.” That delicious burr rode heavily in his voice. “Any last words, before I punish you for your crime?"
Staring up into those dark, sexy eyes, seeing the love and the future there, I could only think of one thing to say. “I went searching for something that would make me complete.” A wave of emotion threatened to overwhelm me. “And I found you."
As the sun sank lower in the sky, and the colors faded into the gathering darkness, the man who was truly my other half made me his, once again, beneath the stars.
