Jeremy rose to his feet. “Come outside with me for a minute.”
Before Fin could push to her feet, Beck plucked Sarah Rose from her arms.
“It’s difficult to get up while holding a baby.” Beck’s arms tightened protectively around his little girl.
Fin shook her head. “I pity any boy that comes sniffing around her when she’s sixteen.”
Beck grinned and gestured with his head toward Jeremy. “You watch. He’ll be the same way.”
Of that, Fin had no doubt. It was a comforting thought.
She and Jeremy grabbed their coats before stepping outside.
“I love being out here where the snow is falling and everything is so still.” Fin moved to stand beside Jeremy at the porch rail. “It’s been a wonderful Christmas.”
“Having family around keeps you grounded.” He looked at her. “You and I are lucky that way. We know who we are, where we came from, and where we’re going.”
“Are you thinking about Kyle?”
He nodded. “Do you think I should do the DNA test?”
Knowing Jeremy as she did, Fin knew he’d eventually agree to take the test. She slipped her arm through his. “You have time to decide. We’ve had a lot to deal with the last couple of months. We need to be kind to ourselves and, for now, soak in the love that surrounds us.”
That brought a smile to his lips. “When did you become such a philosopher?”
“When? Hmmm.” Bringing a finger to her lips, Fin thought for a moment. Then, looping her arms around Jeremy’s neck, she pulled him close. “I guess when I realized that with you in my life, I have everything I need. I couldn’t wish for anything more.”
