Because Octoposeidon had no religion, various human traditions were adjusted and adapted to whatever the bride and groom wanted. Catalina and Calder had opted for the traditional wedding vows but with no wedding rings exchanged. Instead, the two had gotten identical wedding rings tattooed onto intimate parts of their body. No one knew where. As Catalina had whispered to Miranda earlier this morning, it was an area where only Calder could see.
“Do you Catalina take Calder to be your wedded husband to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish forever, for as long as you both shall live?”
“I do,” Catalina whispered.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Miranda smiled as Gray slipped his fingers against her palm and gently squeezed her hand. They had decided that they would remain here in California with Calder and Catalina. They had spoken to her dad over the phone yesterday. Miranda had broken the news that she had gone through the Change and she was with Gray now. To her surprise, her father had taken it rather well, even laughing and congratulating her and telling her she had picked an excellent partner.
When her father had asked to speak with Gray, Miranda had tensed. But Gray had taken the phone and told her father that he would take good care of Miranda by keeping her under the protection of the consortium in the area. Dad had told Gray he thought that was a good idea and had given Gray his blessing. Gray had been smiling ever since.
Jack had even mentioned that perhaps he might close up shop and come down to California and they could all work together again. Miranda and Gray had eagerly agreed.
Earlier today, they’d delivered the yacht to the owner, who had been ecstatic. The rest of the payment for the yacht was safely tucked away in their business bank account. They were already searching for accommodations suitable for a yacht building business here.
During the reception, they danced until the urge to go to the ocean grew so strong that they had to leave the party. They didn’t have too far to go though, as the reception was on the beach.
Calder and Cat had several human friends who had no idea that they were shifters, so the party was still in full swing with several humans. By the time Gray and Miranda left, all the Octo’s had already discreetly disappeared.
They opted to walk up the beach. Calder had indicated there was a safe and secluded area near his marina where he and Cat swam during nights. Cat and Calder wouldn’t be using the area for a few nights as the newlyweds had taken Calder’s houseboat out on the ocean and they would be honeymooning somewhere up the coast.
While they walked, Miranda studied the new tattoo on Gray’s left shoulder and bicep. The tattoo was identical to the one Calder wore and as far as Miranda was concerned it made Gray look sexier than ever. A matching tattoo had been placed on her Miranda’s right shoulder. Right now both of their tattoos were glowing a gorgeous midnight blue signifying they would be Turning within minutes.
After they undressed, Miranda and Gray hid their clothing in some dense bushes. Then, together while holding hands, they waded into the mild ocean. Calder had assured them that they would be safe here because Octoposeidon males took turns patrolling the area and soon Gray would be joining their ranks to help.
It was a good feeling knowing they had less to fear. She’d noticed too, that Gray had become more relaxed since their decision of staying. In turn, she felt confident that he would be safe and she felt more at ease too.
As they gazed out across the ocean and waited to Turn, they watched the sun dip behind the horizon. As it disappeared, it cast a golden hue over the glass-like surface.
“Beautiful view, tonight,” she whispered.
“Yes, very beautiful,” Gray’s soft voice made her gaze at him. He was staring at her with vulnerable love shining in his eyes. The sight made her tremble with excitement.
If someone had told her a little over a week ago that she would be having sex with Gray and dreaming about a life with him in California, she would have called them nuts. Yet here they were. And she couldn’t be happier.
