“I know,” Cindy said with a soft smile.

“Are you happy?” Loukie asked as fear that the woman might leave them tore the breath from her lungs.

As if she realized Loukie’s distress, Cindy climbed onto the bed, wrapped her arms around Loukie’s shoulders, and encouraged her to lay her head on her shoulder.

“I am very happy. I’m married to two of the most amazing people in the universe and now we’re going to have a baby together. How can I not be happy?”

Relief swelled through her, her mubellabina’s reassurance so very genuine that it brought tears to her eyes. “I love you,” she whispered.

“I love you, too,” Cindy said immediately. “With children, or without, we are a family, and I promise my family will always be the center of my universe.”

Eric climbed onto the bed and sandwiched Loukie in the middle of their embrace. He didn’t say anything, just pressed a kiss to her forehead and sighed contentedly.

Then somehow every worry that had crowded Loukie’s mind was replaced by one unassailable truth—she loved and was loved wholeheartedly.

And life simply couldn’t get better than that.
