I glanced out the window and watched the green landscape pass us by.
I’d had time to think about what I was going to do next.
I looked over at Dudley. “Where are you headed after Springfield?”
“I got a load to drop off in Tennessee and then a load to pick up in Arkansas.” He blinked.
“Is that so?” I didn’t bother fighting back a grin.
“If you can give me a few days in Missouri, I’ll ride with you all the way to Arkansas. That is if you want the company.”
“I’ll have to start heading to Tennessee day after tomorrow. But I’d love it if you came with me. It gets lonely with no one to talk to.” Dudley’s face lit up.
“Sounds great.” I leaned back in the seat and propped my feet up on the dash.
“What are you going to do in Arkansas, Ella?”
I smiled, a plan formulating in my head and excitement building in my chest. “I’m going to see some old friends of mine.”
