As the crowd began to thin Henry York found himself standing behind the microphone. Wrought full of nerves he gave no introduction yet somehow Elizabeth knew to look up just the same. As Henry played a hauntingly beautiful acoustic version of Someday at Christmas Elizabeth couldn’t help but search for his father in the crowd. Mr. and Mrs. York stood at the back of the barn, pride etched upon both of their faces.
Through his performance Henry York told his father what he really wanted, and she decided right then and there that it was time she did the same.
Elizabeth didn’t need Nina to tell her to be brave this time. Not caring who was watching or what would happen after, Elizabeth Marshall walked up to the stage, took Henry York’s face into her hands and kissed him, like it were a year in the making.
