  However, when the bad memories were playing on her mind, she found running shifted the concrete until she was centered again.

  She dried off and changed into her jogging pants. After scraping her damp hair up into a high ponytail, she got her phone and keys, and went out.

  Her feet pounded the pavement and she ran down the street, wondering how long she could do this for. Would she end up in the middle of town, breathless and embarrassed about how out of shape she was? She tried to focus only on her breathing. In, in, out, out. The rhythm matched her footsteps. It blasted other thoughts from her mind and she finally experienced the silence she had been seeking. The memories stopped vying for her attention and she was at peace.

  Before she knew what she was doing, Bibbi had run out of town and into the woods. The light was just beginning to shine through the trees, giving the day a heavy, gloomy feel, but Bibbi only looked at where her feet were landing.

  She was so focused on not tripping over a tree root, she didn’t see the low-hanging tree branch until it was about to hit her. She saw a flash of white behind her eyes as it impacted against her forehead, and before she could even say, “oops”, everything went black and she crumpled.
