I smiled fondly, and my eyes might’ve misted up a bit. “Well, I can tell you that she’s perfectly fine,” I said. “But that’s not much fun by itself, is it? So yeah. Tomorrow night, I’ll tell you all about Princess, and why there are no Collectors in the city anymore.”
The small but boisterous crowd actually cheered.
As I stood from the stool and stretched, Brandi grabbed my hand and leaned in close. “Hey, Seth, what are you doing later tonight?” she whispered. “I get off work at eleven, and I’ve got a place nearby. Right around the corner. Maybe you could come over for a while, and we could … have a little fun?”
That sounded good to me, except I had a better idea. “Tell you what,” I said. “Why don’t you head over to Moonlight Gardens when your shift is over? I should be there by then. Just go straight up to the penthouse.”
“The penthouse?” she squealed. “Oh, I am so gonna be there!”
I grabbed the shot glass from the bar counter and tossed back the rest of my fourth tumbler of Scotch, then said my goodbyes as I headed for the door. When Golar contacted me, he said he’d found something huge, something I’d be extremely interested in, and I couldn’t wait to find out what it was. And now I even had someone to look forward to after the meeting.
I might’ve been gone for too long, but it was good to be back.
