Death Awoken Page 23

Ye Qing laughed at the youth in front of him. “You are still too dumb. You actually thought I would become a Spirit King? For what? To be controlled by them again? No fucking way. You also misunderstood the Hell Path. 3,000 years ago, I found the Eternal Hell Sabre. An item which didn't belong to this continent. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one, the Hell Spirit King also found out.”

“You killed the Hell Spirit King?! That's impossible at that time you only opened three gates, the Hell Spirit King had opened four gates.” The red-haired young man was dumbfounded, he wholly forgot he was being refined.

“You are right, it was impossible for me to kill him, I watched how the Eternal Hell Sabre fought with the Hell Spirit King. Somehow the Hell Spirit King subdued the Eternal Hell Sabre fighting with his soul for it. After that, I only needed to figure out how to take advantage of the situation. I ambushed the Hell Spirit King since he was in a weakened state. He tried to run using a soul art, but it backfired on him and ended up sealing him inside the Eternal Hell Sabre.” Ye Qing was looking at the sky and sighed.

“Afterwards with the Eternal Hell Sabre in hand, the Hell Spirit King fell, and they knew me as the Eternal Hell Spirit King. It took many years, but I finally dug out the secrets from the Eternal Hell Sabre. It's as you said the Complete Hell Path. Except we were mistaken about the Hell Path, the Hell Path is a process to temper your body with evil ways, it's an ancient body cultivation method.”

“You still won't be able to get outside the Seeking Continent, no one can get out!” The red-haired young man laughed. He found Ye Qing’s efforts amusing, they were all in vain, no one could exit.

“Seriously… you thirty-three Spirit Kings are all dumb and retarded. You got too comfortable, you already lost the faith. It is said there are three ways to exit the continent. The first one is getting killed, the second one is being of a mortal realm and crossing the seas, of course, those who tried were annihilated by the sea beasts in seconds. The third way: transcend to the Spirit King stage. The three ways are impossible to accomplish, one brings you death, another brings your death, and the third way it's impossible: the Seeking Continent prevents people to breakthrough above the Spirit King due to its seal.”

  “…”

“People forgot about body cultivation. As long as your body cultivation is strong enough you could cross the sea, your body won't have any kind of Qi so the Seeking Continent barrier won't prevent you from going out! The Hell Path is an ancient body cultivation method, the stages described in them goes far above what we know. The only downside is the number of people one would need to kill.”

“Wrong! There is still a fourth way. The tokens, they said there were seven tokens when collecting them together and they would react with the Seeking Continent and then you could get past the barrier.”

Ye Qing laughed. “My mother was the last person who collected all the tokens. She used them and got teleported to some trials, minutes later she exited, the only last words she left behind for me were, 'Never collect the seven tokens, it's impossible to succeed it will only bring you death…'”

The red-haired young man stood there stunned… there was only one person to have ever collected the seven tokens…

  “Your mother was…”

  “Ye Bai.”

  Plop!

Tears could be seen coming from the man in front of Ye Qing. He sat cross-legged on the floor.

“Why? Why didn't you share it with others? If I had known it things would be different! For 3,000 years you had the means... you knew everything. God was unfair.”

“Idiot! How many people are on this continent. It's true I won't stop at anything to exit this damn place. But this doesn't mean I want everyone to die! For the sake of resurrecting my wife, I would stop at nothing.” Ye Qing shouted, in his face the red-haired young man could see that there was a great amount of regret.

“What are you talking about? You never had a wife, you detested women! Don't give me that sentimental crap, you old bastard!” The red-haired young man retorted on the floor, the pain from his blood made it hard for him to properly talk.

“True. I won't deny it. Everything changed when I discarded my body and I possessed this dying youth and met my dead wife. I know there are higher realms out there, the Eternal Hell Sabre was proof. I will exit this caged continent and resurrect her! You will assist my path.” Ye Qing sat cross-legged refining and improving his body cultivation while the red-haired young man was suffering a pain worse than death, which lasted for a few years.

  Chapter 62

  Teleported

“Master help me!” I heard Shu Er telling me.

This transportation wasn't going smoothly... We didn't teleport in an instant like we should have, we found ourselves in a black tunnel surrounded by a sphere composed of cracked black shimmering runes. I was wrong—it was possible for the transfer array to teleport more than one person; the problem was that the transfer array was so ancient it couldn't support all three of us.

The sphere that was composed of runes was cracking every second as we fell, it was disintegrating slowly. The energy level was getting lower and lower; the forces surrounding us were pressing against the sphere stronger. We were in the void or something similar; honestly I didn't exactly know. I felt that this time we were in serious trouble.

Shu Er was getting pulled out of my embrace by the forces surrounding the sphere. The sphere was getting smaller. I could see her frightened face, even in this situation she was looking exquisite.

“No, no… Ahhhh. It hurts!” Half of her leg was out of the sphere, in an instant, it was crushed to a pulp. Her slender leg was destroyed below her knee. She wouldn't be able to properly walk unless she used a stick or she had her leg healed by an advanced healer.

Tears were in her beautiful face after her leg was destroyed... I could pull her again in my embrace. She was crying non-stop, to a cultivator at the Qi Refining stage, losing a leg was worse than losing an arm—it was almost the same as being completely crippled. I know that she knew this well. Shu Yi tried to calm Shu Er down, but it was in vain, it didn't bother me at all that Shu Yi was crying, she needed to vent her feelings.

The sphere was getting worse, another hole opened, this time it was far worse, we three got separated completely apart from each other, I had to let them go... the force was so strong that if I kept trying to embrace them, they would be split in half since their flesh was not as strong as mine. I used my Qi to move to them and reached Shu Er who was closest. I reached her in time, she was about to be pulled out of the sphere again though. Shu Yi was too pale, she burned all of her Qi in order to not get pulled out…

Fuck this. The force will get stronger unless we reach this random destination already.

“System do something! Help me out!”

  Analysing…

I could only rely on the System at this point, I couldn't protect myself let alone these two women beside me which I claimed to be mine. How arrogant and stupid I was. I thought everything would go smoothly, I had a System, and a deadly entity inside me. I was destined to be someone great, someone, who stood above everyone else yet reality struck hard. I was naïve yet again.

Replying to the host there is not enough information in the database to solve this situation. Unknown items in the inventory can't help the Host.

  Crack!

  Another rune was gone…

“Hold on to me! Use whatever means you have!”

Shu Yi used some kind of claws and stabbed my legs and embraced them. Shu Er even bit me to hold on.

The sphere rotated and became smaller, after some time we were finally safe. We managed to withstand the sphere together, thanks to the sudden change in its physics. Now, half of the energy of the sphere was completely gone.

“Master…” Shu Er was looking at me and Shu Yi was crying. “I'm no expert with arrays but I'm not stupid, I will exit the sphere. This way master and my big sister can have more time to survive. I'm a cripple now, I ca
n't help Master.”

“No!” Shu Yi shouted. “Please Master you can't let my little sister die... I know I'm being selfish and as a slave we are meant to be used but please I beg you. Don't discard her.” Shu Yi’s gorgeous figure was kneeling in the sphere.

“I knew since the beginning, sacrificing you two would earn me more time inside the sphere. But then if I were to survive where would I find two beautiful and sexy twins to do the chores for me?” I said smiling and embracing them. The mood was lifted, both twins laughed at their shameless master.

Deep inside me, I knew what I was capable of so far, I didn't meditate too much. I was afraid, the feeling of looking inside me scared me on a deeper level than I had ever known before. Picturing me crushing babies with my bare hands was something I knew I could do and I would remain calm—I could exterminate everything and I wouldn't care. Life had no value to me. In the face of a decision, killing was my true instinct, I knew the Death Core was affecting me all those years, it was seriously changing me. I was no longer that guy that was on Earth long ago.

I didn't love these women, I could discard them, but I was the one who accepted them. They belonged to me. I couldn't bring myself to kill them, if I did that I knew the only trace of value I had for life would be gone. I would succumb to the Death Core. Shu Yi and Shu Er helped me not to lose myself even though I was still a cruel and merciless cold-blooded killer. I was still able to control myself to not kill the first person to come into my sight.

Huh!? My soul picked up a subtle reaction on the surface of the sphere.

“Shu Yi, what did you just do?” Shu Yi did something, and the sphere reacted to it, I was sure of it.

“I ate a pill to recover my Qi,” Shu Yi answered with a confused look on her face.

  “Give me one.”

I took the pill and placed it in my hand, nothing happened. I must be doing something wrong.

“Shu Yi, repeat exactly what you just did.”

There! After crushing the pill with her teeth, a small trace of Qi went out of the pill and dissolved into the sphere. I grabbed another pill and crushed it directly into the sphere, all of the Qi dissipated and transmuted into the sphere.

“Great! Crush every pill you have on you, the sphere is absorbing it.”

We crushed every pill we had, healing pills, cultivation pills, anything. The sphere was getting repaired at the same time as it was being consumed. Shu Yi and Shu Er ran out of pills quick, I still had many pills thanks to the Arcane Legion elder who died at the cave. Even me being a 3-Star Alchemist I didn't know about many of these pills, I could guess that 3-Star pills were useless to Nascent Soul cultivators that’s why they didn’t bring any of them with them. I was crushing pills above 4-Stars now.

After one full day of crushing pills, we ran out, the sphere was repaired by a great margin. This only helped us to get through two more days, when the same situation as before happened again. The sphere cracked again and the void’s forces pulled us out. This time... Shu Yi lost an arm, and Shu Er a hand. Half my body was also destroyed saving both of them, my legs were gone. Luckily again, I was a corpse and I used the corpses I had collected above the Qi Refining 5th rank, but I didn't have enough to heal this amount of damage. I was left with no choice but to use the bodies of the elders. Their cultivation and flesh were good, so only one leg of theirs was needed to fix my body.

I threw everything I had in my inventory. Sadly, nothing reacted to the sphere… The Death Star Flame! It was the flame, it could dissolve things so they could be forged or concocted from being a blacksmith or an alchemist. With a quick thought, a tiny black flame appeared in my hand. I burned everything, books, weapons, metals… everything I had left… I hope it works.

All the things I had started to melt, and they turned into their primary material. After several minutes of intense burning they turned in a weird substance. I guessed that that would be their essence. My guess was right, the sphere started to absorb it now! There was nothing left in my inventory, only the four old men’s corpses from the Arcane Legion that I was saving for an emergency.

Burning everything bought us enough time that the sphere crack had repaired. Whoever created this kind of array was a crazy grandmaster lunatic. I looked at the snake curled on my arm, it was truly disappointing looking... a Void Snake, and it could do nothing to help me. Sigh, too much to expect from a baby Void Snake I guess.

Ten days of intense energy had passed. The teleport finally ended, and we landed in a vast green plain on the horizon of a rugged terrain. In the distance, there were shadows of what looked to be a city. Shu Er couldn't walk properly so I carried her. Shu Yi had no problems walking, she had only lost an arm.

  “System, where are we?”

Unknown. The host is no longer in the Seeking Continent.
