He pulled her close. “What kind of house do you have in mind?”
She considered his question for a moment. Maybe one on a beach? “I’ve always liked the sound of the ocean.”
His laughter warmed her very soul. “Me, too, Luna, me, too.” He cleared his throat. “After…we’re going to get a house on the beach. And a sailboat. And we’ll take that boat out, and we’ll have our little girl with us.”
Her breath slid in and out.
Her heart beat in a steady rhythm.
“Before the little girl comes, though, we’re going to get married. Maybe married on the beach. And after that…”
Her head tilted toward him. Their mouths were so close.
“We’ll do any damn thing you want.”
“I like that.”
“Good. Because there’s not going to be any more pain. Just good memories. Memories that we make.”
“How about we start making them right now?”
And he kissed her. The start of a new life. Their life. Not trapped in some lab. Not hunted prey that was being stalked. They were free. They were together.
And nothing was going to stop them from having their happily ever after.
