“Whatever their future, they are everything they need to be to tackle it head-on.” Bethany Anne’s mouth turned up at the corner. “I just hope the universe is equipped to handle the waves they’re going to make.”

Thank you for joining Alexis and Gabriel on the first steps of their journey into adulthood, and thank you even more for staying to read this note!
Isn’t it good to get a look at the twins at last! I’m quite sure everyone has seen K’aia and Trey as well, but for those who haven’t, here are the artworks made by Eric Quigley for the Endgame series.
K’aia
Trey
I have a thousand more thank-yous to say. First, to my family and friends, whose love and support I couldn’t live without. To everyone who made my world by being so excited that this book was coming! To everyone who worked to make sure this book reached readers with a minimum of oopsies. To Andrew Dobell for the beautiful cover.
Last but not least, to Michael for being so abundantly imaginative that I keep having to write more books. If you missed the story of how this series came to be, it’s here in this post from my Facebook page, where I can be found sporadically waffling between writing binges.

I like to hop around and explore different genres while I’m helping to fill out other parts of the Kurtherian timeline, like the Age of Madness, but my favorite thing to write is actually the smaller stories, especially those defining moments in a character’s life that shape them to make the big decisions.
There’s nothing more defining than the short time between adolescence and adulthood, and as a parent I’m learning that at first the change happens in lots of little stages. Then all at once you notice—oh, my goodness, you grew up!
Does this count as parenting Bethany Anne’s children? I hope not, those two are far too clever for me! I’ll settle for guiding them, and that’s only going to get more challenging as they get further into the game. I have faith in the team finding a whole lot more trouble when they step up a level.
I wonder what kind of challenge Zenith Squad will be for them? I’m sure I’ll find out in the coming weeks, and I can’t wait to share the next part of the story with you!
Until the next book,
Nat
Author Notes - Michael Anderle

Thank you for reading this book, AND these author notes!
In less than a couple of months, we will celebrate the fourth anniversary of Death Becomes Her being released. There was no way I could have foreseen what that book (and the ones that came after) would accomplish, and how they would be the catalyst for such change in so many lives.
For example, four years ago, I certainly had NO idea who Natale Roberts was, nor had I ever visited her country (England).
Now, four years later, we have collaborated on a good number of stories, and we have even met in both London at 20Booksto50k® events there and at the 20Booksto50k® Vegas event here in the US.
Plus, more importantly, Bethany Anne has KIIDDSSS.
When I first created Bethany Anne, my intention was that she wouldn’t get married, much less get married and have kids.
I went so far as to kill off her boyfriend Michael to make sure I never had to worry about her significant other getting in the way of the story being about her, not them.
We see what that decision cost me…a whole quartet of books to get him back and saying, “I’m sorry” to a few hundred fans who practically threw their Kindles against the wall, when they didn’t throw them at me. I’ve no idea how many readers I lost with that one decision.
I won’t do it again. Nope, significant others do not get killed.
Maybe…perhaps… Well, let’s say, I won’t promise, but I WILL think really long and really hard before ever doing something like that again.
So, when it became obvious that Bethany Anne’s kids were either going to be in the war or something needed to be done with them, it was a fairly straightforward decision.
“Do I want to be realistic and believe I can put them in harm’s way as teenagers and they never get hurt / dead…or do I grow them up?”
One was not going to happen, so the other was a good call. ;-)
So was asking Natale for her help on these stories.
Fortunately, Natale has a teenager of her own (I’m a few years after empty nest, so my memory of teenagers is questionable at best. I try to forget the horrible stuff in my life.)
Natale and I hope you enjoy the decision Bethany Anne made as her children work their way towards…
MATURITY.
