CHAPTER 49 More Divine Visitors

That night Jaklin and Mikhail, in their dreams, left Millennium Road and traveled east to the Chateau. Once inside, they looked out at the bridge over the fast-flowing Acheron and saw a woman carrying a child exit the Gates in the wall of the City of God and walk the bridge toward the Chateau. She opened the door that was only accessible from the bridge side. The woman was crying, and the child, a little girl, had a stern look and a fierceness in her eyes that you'd never expect from a baby. The woman was dressed in a flowing white gown, all ruffles and pleats, elegant. A delicate shawl circled her neck and fell to her belted waist.

"I am Velinar," she said. "And I'm here to find and send back Alexandra Marie Eidyn."

"We'll go with you," said Jaklin.

"No. This is my mess, and I've been given orders to pay whatever price it will take to make it right. You're confined to this Chateau and in charge of her little girl's soul until she returns." She handed the baby to Jaklin. "No one is to enter, no one to leave, until Alexandra returns."

"You'll need a guide. Millennium Road can be confusing," said Mikhail.

"Been there before. Spent a while, actually. But I'm not going to Millennium Road. I'm the cause of all this," she confessed, looking up at Mikhail with tear-filled eyes. "I let Alucius bite me, thinking I could turn him back human. I was a little infatuated, even as an immortal, but it made him worse. Alexandra rectified my mistake, cleaned up my mess, and now it's time to fulfill my debt to her."

"Good luck, and come back safe," said Mikhail.

  "I'll not be returning."

With that, Velinar, Prime Counselor, City of God, opened the door to Millennium Road, stepped out, and disappeared into darkness.

"So that was Velinar," said Jaklin.

"Seems we all make mistakes from time to time," said Mikhail.

"And suffer the consequences," said Jaklin.
