Chapter 5

When I woke up the next morning Carina was still sleeping. I gently extracted myself from underneath her, put a pillow under her head and crept out into the living room.

The boys were all asleep with James and Sam passed out on the floor and Derek presumably in the guest room.

I walked as quietly as I could over to the kitchen to fish around in the boxes for the coffee maker. Finding it, along with some grounds, I pulled it out, filled it with water and plugged it in.

A nice cup of nasty cottage Joe would set things right.

Still trying to stay quiet, I walked across the room, snuck out the front door and stepped outside.

  The view was glorious.

The house faced west across the shimmering blue lake. The sky was just as perfectly blue and without just a few white tufts of cloud here and there.

Waves lapped gently at the dock and boat house, making an enticing gurgling sound that made you want to swim.

I took a deep breath of back country air and revelled in the week that was to come.

Of course, as soon as I thought about the week ahead a knot formed in my stomach at what was going to happen with the boys.

We’d been too drunk and stoned to make any plans last night. I figured that as soon as Carina and them woke up we’d probably decide it was best if they just left the way they’d offered to.

I’d owe them one but it would be a small price to pay for having the week alone with my wife.

The pleasant, wet memory of filling the inside of Carina’s pussy with cum the night before made me smile. I wondered if this was going to be the week it happened, if this was going to be the week we made a baby?

We’d been trying for about six months with nothing happening. Carina had even dragged us into a fertility specialist who said to try for a little longer before pursuing other options.

He’d been the one who suggested taking some time off and relaxing. He’d said that often couples get so caught up and stressed out about trying to make something work, that things just don’t work out because of that.

Carina had been skeptical and wanted a second opinion but I’d convinced her to at least come up here and try what he’d suggested. After all, it couldn’t hurt, right?

The boys showing up had certainly been unexpected and seemed like it might throw a wrench into those works. Although, judging by the previous night, maybe Carina was over her shyness about having sex when there were other people around?

I had a good chuckle at the thought. I knew that last night had been some weird drunken exception and that Carina would return to her usual self that day.

I turned around at the sound of the door opening behind me. Derek stepped out onto the porch, rubbing his eyes. “What up, dawg?” he said through a yawn.

“Hey man,” I replied, “not much.”

“Did I smell some coffee on inside?”

“Yeah. Should be ready in a few minutes. You get a good sleep?”

Derek shrugged. “Ah, you know. Stayed up too late. Had too much to drink and all that. Other than that it was fine. That bed in there sucks. I barely fit on that thing.”

That made sense. Derek was a pretty big guy. Not as big as Sam had become but he was about six feet tall with a good physique.

Actually, and I have no idea why this is, I was always fascinated by Derek’s body. Not in any kind of homosexual way. I’d just grown up in a mostly white part of town and Derek was one of my only black friends.

He was fit and often wore shirts that were pretty flattering to his physique.

I remember being at the pool with him a few times and having a hard time looking away from his trim abs and pecs. His skin was so dark it was just, I don’t know, fascinatingly different to look at.

“Seems like your night was alright,” Derek said, looking out onto at the lake and cracking a wry smile.

“Honestly dude? I have no idea what the fuck that was about,” I said, looking behind me to make sure Carina wasn’t up.

  “What do you mean?”

I shook my head. “Carina doesn’t do shit like that,” I muttered, switching gears to locker talk.

  “Shit like what?”

“I’m telling you she’s never fucked me with anyone that close before,” I whispered.

“What, you mean like in the next room?” Derek asked.

“Yeah. She’s got this hang up, or had this hang up that she doesn’t want anyone to hear.”

Derek scowled. “Hmm, that’s weird.” But he seemed to be saying it out of politeness, not because her really cared.

We went back to staring out at the lake until I heard the percolator bubbling and frothing inside the house. “Sounds like the coffee’s ready. Want a cup?”

“Hell yeah,” Derek answered. “Hell yeah. I could use it.”

We both turned and I was just reaching for the doorknob when the front door swung open.

My eyes nearly popped out of my head as a rush of nervous energy tore down my spine and settled in my gut.

Standing in front of us was Carina. She had on a one piece that she’d bought especially for this occasion. It was red and cut out at the sides so her creamy skin was showing.

It covered her breasts well but gave us both a nice, big eyeful of cleavage in the front. It did absolutely nothing but accentuate the curve of her waist to her voluptuous thighs.

As I stole a glance at Derek I realized his eyes were bugging out almost as much as mine.

Except that she was my wife.

“Hello boys,” Carina purred, stepping out onto the porch with a dainty foot.

She had the most beautiful, round toes and she’d painted the nails a red that matched the suit just for the trip. They looked like honeysuckle berries just begging to be sucked.

“Wow,” Derek said, his voice low.

Once again I felt a mild panic at his reaction. Not that I felt threatened. We were all just friends here.

Carina had known Derek since we got married and he’d never done anything that would make me feel like I should worry about him. But he’d never acted the way he was acting around her now.

He seemed… fuck, he seemed interested.

Carina, who I expected to roll her eyes or cover herself up with a towel or something did nothing of the sort.

She stepped between us, nearly pushing Derek off to the side, then sauntered down the porch steps her juicy booty waving at us as she walked down the flagstones towards the dock.

As I ogled her attractive behind I felt the urge to check out Derek again.

Sure enough, he was staring at her the same way I was. The panic turned to a sudden angry jealousy that poked me into lashing out.

“Hey!” I hissed, getting his attention. “What the fuck?!?”

Derek opened one eye wider. He seemed taken aback. “Dude… what?” he asked.

“What? What?!? That’s my wife you’re staring at!” I snapped.

Derek furrowed his brow and took a step back. He shook his head and looked me up and down, as if I was being a crazy person. “Hey, when a woman like that walks in front of me there’s no doing anything about the fact that I’m gonna look at her,” he said. “Besides, chill out. It’s not like I’m fucking her in front of you. Shit… “

He turned and walked inside leaving me standing on the porch feeling like a total jerk.

After watching Carina slip into the lake, I took breath after deep breath to try and calm myself down.

Was I really being unreasonable? Maybe I was. He had only been looking at her after all.

The more I minced it over and over in my mind the more Derek’s words burrowed into my gut.

It’s not like I’m fucking her in front of you.

Why had he said that? Why would he say something like that?

Turning back towards the lake I watched Carina swim out to the little rocky outcrop a few hundred feet from shore and crawl up onto the rocks.

Even from that distance her good looks and shapely form were irr
esistible. Watching her move up and sit down made a primal thought form in my mind.

There was a time in the distant past when humans probably roamed the same woods we were in now. There were no cabins then. No bathing suits or cars or cell phones or beer.

We were probably much closer to animals than we are now.

And in that long gone time if Carina had been swimming she would have been naked. Derek probably wouldn’t have been wearing anything either, or me or Sam or James.

Nor would there have been any of the conventions we enjoyed now. If Carina had been “mine,” as I liked to think of her, it would only be as long as none of the other guys felt the urge to make her theirs. That may have led to standoff and in that case the strongest male would have won.

  Just like with animals.

How an idea can make you hot and cold at the same time, I don’t know, but that one sure as hell did, for some reason.

A warm breeze blew in off the lake again, the sun peeking through the foliage of the canopy above the cottage as it rose in the sky.

Carina slipped back into the mostly still waters and began making her way back towards the shore. Only her eyes and nose were poking above the water as she paddled closer with a gentle breast stroke.

She seemed to be staring at me, though she could have been looking at anything at all. And though her mouth was under the water, her eyes betrayed that she was smiling.

A wry, mischievous smile that could have meant anything at all.

  “Hey, dude?”

I turned at the sound of Derek’s voice to see him standing in the door behind me.

  “Sorry about that. About what I said. You’re right. She’s your wife. I shouldn’t be… I shouldn’t have.”

The crusty curmudgeonly mood that had been calcifying inside of me softened with relief at what Derek had said. I smiled at him and gave him a friendly punch on the arm. “Forget about it. I think I got up on the wrong side of the bed. Besides,” I went on, turning just in time to see Carina rising up from the water onto the sandy beach. “She is something to look at,” I said, quietly.

A silence fell between us as we both watched her walk up towards the cabin.

I knew Derek was staring at her again, ogling her tits and her hips and her thighs as she swayed closer but I didn’t care. In fact, something about it kind of turned me on.

“What are you two looking at?” Carina asked, flicking her hair over her shoulder and grabbing the towel she’d thrown on the steps before her swim.

I opened my mouth to answer but something made me pause. Just long enough for Derek to speak.

“Oh, you know. A little bit of this, a little bit of that.”

Carina screwed her face up and shot him a funny look but there was no doubt she knew what he was talking about. She was bombshell hot in that bikini and she knew it. Now she was just playing a game.

I guess it was up to me to figure out exactly what that game was.

  Chapter 6

By the time Carina got dried out and dressed everyone was up.

The four of us guys were all sipping coffee in the kitchen when she emerged from the bedroom. She’d tied her hair back in a ponytail and put on a pretty tight t-shirt and a pair of shorts that came down a third of the way down her thighs.

It was an outfit she’d obviously packed thinking we were going to be the only one’s here.

Like I said before, Carina didn’t really dress like that around other people. She was doing this for me.

As the other guys all turned to say hi, I couldn’t help but notice how their stares lingered as she walked across the room. Nor could I help but notice the smile that curled the sides of Carina’s mouth, a smile that was obviously genuine appreciation for the attention she was getting from them.

An unsettling hollowness settled in my stomach again, one that was quickly filled with a hot swell of anger.

This was my fucking wife these guys were looking at. Shouldn’t I be the kind of guy that tells them all to knock it off?

Weren’t guys supposed to puff their chests and get up into each others faces and protect what was theirs? It was a narrative reinforced in every movie, every romance, every tired cliche about what it meant to be a man.

But what was I going to do? Start a fistfight with Sam who was probably fifty pounds heavier than me before he started working out?

Or Derek who had pipes for arms twice the size of mine?

No. I wasn’t going to do anything like that.

So, instead of letting my jealousy get the better of me, I took a few quiet, deep breaths to calm down and indulged a feeling that was lurking somewhere under the surface of all the obvious ones.

At first it was slightly shameful, remembering how I’d been hard the previous night as they laughed, or remembering how Carina had seemed so excited by that. But after I got over that initial reaction, I started picking away at why that might be, wondering if it had to be that way.

Carina was an amazingly attractive woman. I was lucky to have her. That much was obvious.

What Derek had said was true, too. It’s not like they were fucking her in front of me. They were just appreciating her beauty in the same way I was.

What if… What if I let go of all the jealousy and anger that were churning inside me and just let that be?

The question was as startling as it was scary. I wished I could have slipped out of the room and examined it more carefully but by that time Carina was standing in front of us, arms folded across her chest, eyeing me with intent.

“Not gonna offer your wife a cup of coffee?” she asked.

The tension that had formed in the silence of the boys watching her cross the room snapped.

Derek nudged me in the ribs. “Yeah man, what kind of husband are you anyways?”

It was just a joke but it pushed me deeper into the stream of thought that I’d been pursuing.

What kind of husband was I?

I brushed it aside for the time being, making a mental note to revisit it later and turned to fix Carina a coffee.

I plopped a couple of sugar cubes and a dollop of cream into a cup, then filled it with coffee, turned around and handed it to her.

She winked and smiled with one corner of her mouth. “Thanks, babe.”

Another silence fell as we all watched her take a drink.

Carina looked up in mid-drink, eyes moving from Sam to me to Derek, then to James, obviously acutely aware that we were all staring at her. “Okay, boys, “ she said, stepping away. “That’s probably enough staring for now, huh?”

The guys all burst into nervous chuckles at being called out and I joined them because, well, fuck. I barely knew what the fuck was going on anymore.

It seemed that with each interaction we had with her served to underling that she was the only female there.

One to four. Not a great ratio if you’re a male.

As the guys settled down in the living room to finish their coffee’s, I stayed in the kitchen to try and pick up the thread of what I’d been thinking about.

I couldn’t really get back to it, thought. Watching Carina smile and laugh at their jokes, put her feet up on the coffee table and be seemingly consumed by their company and attention was too distracting.

  And the boys?

  Fuck, the boys.

Those boys looked like animals. With each quip they seemed to close in on her, narrowing the space between them until there was barely any left. Like a pack hunting for prey.

What really shocked the hell out of me was that this time I didn’t feel jealous about it at all. I like that Carina was enjoying herself, that they were making her laugh and feel good about herself.

In a strange way, I kind of wanted to see just how far she would go.

  And yet… And yet.

When touched her arm, not in any sexual way, just to get her attention, the electric buzz of jealousy pulsed through me, racing down from my brain and settling in my cock.

  Hey. That’s my woman
.

That was what I was supposed to say, right? Then make him stop?

He did it again. A little higher on her arm this time.

She didn’t seem to mind. She acted so casual, as if it happened all the time.

Someone told a joke and the four of them burst out laughing.

I didn’t even hear what it was. My vision was tunnelling, focused on the spot he’d touched her and the way she’d smiled when he’d done it.

The feeling coming out of the deepest parts of my insides was like… it was like a mermaid singing to me, calling me into the water.

  What if… No.

I shut the thought down before it could fully form.

Fuck that. That was crazy. That was ridiculous. I would never, could never do anything like that.

I shook my head to clear it and reached for my cup. Missing the mark I sent it sailing off the counter and crashing on the hardwood floor, coffee spilling across the kitchen.

  “Fuck!”

Everyone turned to look as I grabbed a roll of paper towels and dropped to my knees to clean up the mess.

The silence that ensued wasn’t long but it was slightly humiliating knowing everyone was watching me.

“You alright in there, Kevin?” Derek finally asked.

“Fine,” I muttered, mopping up the mess with a clump of wet paper towels.

Once it was clean I stood up, tossed the soaked clump in the garbage and walked into the living room to join the group.

  “So?” Derek asked.

“So, what?” I said, sitting down on the couch next to my wife.

“So what do you think?” he said, as if I should have known what he was talking about.

Derek arched a brow and glanced at the other guys, then Carina.

Carina shook her head, leaned over and pressed the back of her hand to my forehead. “Are you okay? We’ve been talking about this for like the last five minutes,” she said.

“Uh, yeah, fine,” I replied, still drifting between the conversation we were supposed to be having and the dark but alluring thoughts I’d been musing about. “Just space out is all.”

“Okay,” Carina said, giving me a funny look. “Derek was asking what you think about the plan? That the guys stay here for the week?”
