I left it at that.
As I left the precinct, I waved at Josephson. The pup had made Inspector. Youngest ever on the force to do so on Beta Prime. He smiled back for a second, a comm stuck under his ear, then promptly went back to a scowl as he threatened a potential suspect. He’d be fine.
I stood on the sidewalk outside the building, watching the first flurries of snow falling. It was a good deal Markeson had offered. It would make it easier for me to keep an eye on him.
I’d learned about the MacAuliffe character and how he met his end. His death on Persephone raised a lot of suspicions, like why did he and the Chief associate with one another. The fact Markeson had put a slug in that blonde bombshell Gravestone didn’t surprise me at all. The man just ran with a bad crowd when it came to gorgeous women. The fact she was the brains behind the fight scheme didn’t surprise me at all.
Leaning back, I looked up to the heavens as the first twinges of pink as the sunset began to fill the sky over Capital City. I thought of Dmitry and felt a twinge of sadness. Tonight the blue sky looked grey.
