Echoes of Blood and Glory Page 17

Right before her finger pressed the button, Seti glanced up at her, a happy, guileless smile on his face.

  “Got it.”

She put the strap around her neck and stood, stretching her back. The swing was her favorite place, but she’d been there an hour.

“Why don’t you take a walk?” Seti asked, gesturing with his chin toward Ra. “He looks like he could use some help with Scratch.”

He lifted his face to hers, and she kissed him. A shiver raced down her spine, and she found herself leaning into him a little more, but a cry of protest interrupted them.

“Rose!” Ra’s voice came across the lawn, and she turned. He waved at her. Horus was backing the tractor into the barn, and he’d need help hitching the baler to the tractor.

She smiled as she started toward them. Horus would probably talk her into driving out to the field with him, and she’d sit, perched on his lap, talking about nothing and everything, as they baled the hay he’d just cut. He came out of the barn, wiping his hands on a rag. “Do you want to take a ride, beautiful girl?”

  She laughed. She’d been right.

The days stretched out in front of her—predictable and totally unknown. Maybe there’d be more babies in their future. This one had come following five years of the belief the guys couldn’t have children.

She had no idea what forever would look like, but whatever the future brought, with Horus, Seti, and Ra at her side, it would be beautiful.

  Afterword

Finishing a series is like saying goodbye to characters who have become good friends. I have loved Briar and her vampires, and Rose and her immortals were just as special to me. Thank you, everyone, who has read Midnight’s Crown and Daylight’s Crown. I hope you’re happy with their ending.
