Linda’s ass-kicking military background actually came from one of my beta readers, Richard, who after reading the first book in my episodic series (Surviving the Fall) said that the female character in that series should have a military background. I loved the idea and decided to give that background to Linda in No Sanctuary instead. I’m purposefully keeping a lot of the details vague in this first book to heighten the mystery and also because I need to flesh them all out! What I can tell you is that despite that outer shell she’s seen a lot. Way more than she’s let on so far.
Now……. About those “interludes” as I call them. The chapters in italics. What are those all about? Since the main story in No Sanctuary follows the struggles of Frank and Linda I needed a way to tell the story about the terrorist attacks and the aftermath (and, based on that last chapter, the additional attacks that are coming!). I’ve used interludes since my first series (Final Dawn) as a way of expanding the background of the story and I can promise you that things are going to get pretty interesting in the next book or two. And if you’re wondering whether Linda and Frank will be getting involved in a conflict with the perpetrators of the attacks, you’ll just have to wait and see. :)
