But they were also stronger than anything she could have ever dreamed of.

  THIRTY-THREE

NYTHIAN WATCHED his mate as she went through the forms again, her movements graceful and precise. Her bare arms glistened with sweat, making him want to taste her salty sweetness.

“Very good,” he said proudly, offering her rare praise. She’d worked so hard over the past few months, throwing herself into her training, using it to strengthen her mind and bury the painful memories of her past.

But she was motivated by more than a desire to heal. Soon, they would be returning to Tharos, and she needed to be ready for anything.

Her style of fighting was modified from the First Division’s more brutal and savage playbook. With her help, Nythian had devised the moves and learned a whole lot about what the human body was capable of in the process.

  A whole lot.

Alexis huffed, her chest moving up and down, her perfectly round breasts straining against the tight fabric of her top. He could just make out the delectable points of her nipples.

“Now let’s try the takedown.” He came up behind her, putting his arms around her as if to pull her backward, replicating the move Tasha had attempted on her. Alexis grabbed his wrist and reversed her grip, dropping to the floor and yanking on his arm with great force.

Her intention was to throw him down, and if Nythian had been an ordinary human, he would have been flat on his back right now.

But at the last moment, he decided not to play the game, instead flipping her over so she was flat on her back, panting. She was a formidable fighter by any standard, but he was a First Division warrior. The difference in power between them was just too great. Her eyes narrowed. “You’re supposed to follow the script.”

Arousal flared inside him, and he leaned in just a little, letting her feel his hardness, daring to taste her luscious lips. “Didn’t feel like it. This is much better.”

Goddess, training her was hard sometimes, but he was the only one who could do it. He couldn’t stand the thought of another male being near her.

It took all of his formidable self-control to keep his lust at bay. Sometimes, at the end of a hard training session, he would give in to temptation, and she always—always—responded with equal intensity.

Sometimes, she teased him, tricked him, and before he realized what he was doing, he would be tearing her clothes off, pinning her against the floor of the training chamber.

It was ridiculous. They shouldn’t be training this way—it broke every single rule in the First Division’s code—but somehow, it worked.

He leaned in and kissed her, tenderly at first, then savagely. She put her hand on the back of his neck, pulling him in, demanding him with her lips, her tongue, wrapping her legs around his body.

Her obsidian hand sent an electric ripple through him, stoking his arousal even higher.

Her lips curved wickedly. The mischievous glint in her eyes made him growl in anticipation.

She was here with him, and nothing in the Universe that could touch her. They had found the ones who were important to her—her family—and made them safe. Her eyes were bright, her mind clear, her heartbeat strong and steady, pounding its rhythm right into the depths of his soul.

  And he…

The toxic, destructive anger that he’d lived with for so long was barely a whimper. That terrible emptiness was gone.

For the first time in his life, Nythian felt complete.

  It was a good feeling.

  Goddess, she was stunning.

“The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” he whispered hoarsely.

Her features softened, eyes going wide, pupils dilating, lips parting, revealing a tantalizing hint of glistening softness…

  He kissed her again.

And she responded with all the fury he needed, and they drowned in each other, becoming one with the perfect darkness and the Universe and the stars.
