The Raven's Warning Page 55

by A. E. Rayne

Jael squeezed over, moving closer to Thorgils, glancing around at the bloody and bruised faces, certain she looked no better; worried she wouldn’t be able to keep her eyes open for much longer. But she thought of her daughter and her husband, and she straightened her spine. ‘When that wall is finished we go,’ Jael said, looking at each one of them. ‘It’s time. It’s time to finish this.’

  EPILOGUE

Briggit Halvardar pushed one woman away and turned to the other. She’d never been able to decide who she liked better. Who pleased her more. So they were both in her bed, by her side. Day and night.

She licked her finger, watching the woman’s eyes narrow.

‘That bitch Draguta thinks she can come here and take what’s ours,’ Briggit murmured. ‘But she doesn’t realise that we’ve been ready for this moment. Waiting for it. Preparing for it.’ She exhaled slowly, feeling an overwhelming sense of calm still every part of her. ‘When we are done here, my love, you will go. Find Teran. Tell him it is time. Our enemies are on the march. We are finally ready to begin.’ And bending forward, she pushed her finger into the woman’s mouth, biting her lip. ‘It is time to return Raemus to his rightful place. Here. By my side.’ And sighing with pleasure, she kissed the woman deeply, her golden eyes flickering to the giant shield hanging on the wall above the long, stone hearth.

  About the Author

Upon discovering that her chances for inventing a time machine were rather slim, 8-year-old A.E. Rayne decided to pursue a career as a writer instead. She completed a Bachelor of Communication Studies, majoring in television, then trained as a graphic designer, while dabbling in poetry, and continually plotting her first novel.

A.E. Rayne survives on a happy diet of historical and fantasy fiction and particularly loves a good Viking tale. Her favourite authors are Bernard Cornwell, Giles Kristian, Robert Low, C.J. Sansom, and Patrick O’Brian. She lives in Auckland, New Zealand, with her husband and three children.

The Raven’s Warning is the fifth book in her

epic fantasy series, The Furyck Saga.
