She had been so deep in thought that when Kai wrapped her in his arms, and looked at her with concern, she shook herself out of her musings and kissed him, deeply.
“Don’t worry, I was just thinking about how happy I am,” she whispered against his lips.
As she looked around at the mismatched group that made up her family, her smile faltered. She missed Reaper.
“Any word?” she asked.
Ghost shook his head. She missed the wolf, but she knew that he had to do what felt right to him, so she wouldn’t complain. She would worry though.
“He’s fine, love. If he needs us, he’ll call.”
“Okay, I’ll try to stop worrying,” she said.
The room erupted in laughter. “I said I would try.” She emphasized the last word.
He kissed her and stood straight, looking around the room before he turned to her. “Do you want to tell them now?”
She nodded, and Kai cleared his throat, catching everyone’s attention.
“Last night I formally asked Liv to marry me.” His voice cracked on the last word. He squeezed her hand, and she wrapped her arms around him.
A loud cheer rang through the lab, and he laughed at their loud, boisterous reactions.
“Wait, wait—he didn’t tell us if she accepted,” Jade said.
“Of course I did. I love him,” Liv said.
“Well, when is the big day?”
“That’s the problem. Liv won’t marry me until all of her family is there, so we have to wait for Reaper to join us. I have the minister on speed dial and the marriage license is ready whenever she is, so it’s a waiting game.”
“We’re your family?” Seth asked.
Without hesitation, Liv responded, “Of course you are. All of you are my family, and I wouldn’t want to get married without any of you there.”
They all pounced on her, including Kane, which made her smile. She had gone from being alone in the world to becoming accepted by these assassins who were her family, through and through, and she couldn’t have been happier.
