Janie grinned. “I bet, but then I’d have to figure out how to pay the rent and that would make me most unhappy.”

He nodded, curling his forehead into a mocking scowl. “We wouldn’t want that. I’ve grown to enjoy seeing you happy.”

She kissed him again, her eyes on him like she was seeing him for the first time. He loved that look—a look that wasn’t made up by a false image, but one of genuine liking.

“What, do I have dirt on my face or something?” he asked playfully.

“You’re not exactly the person I assumed you were.”

“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”

She kissed him again, nestling closer to him. “It’s a very good thing. You should know that you’re the first guy I’ve ever spent this much time naked with.”

He couldn’t hide his pleased grin—a warmth sprung up from his chest and moved into his neck and face. “Now that is a good thing.” He cupped her breast to bring it to his mouth for a kiss and teasing suckle. “A very good thing.”

She laughed. “I’m serious. Sex has never been this enjoyable before or this unique.”

He coughed as if she’d gut punched him. “So no one has ever said sex with me was unique before and I’m not even sure that’s a compliment.”

Her fingers trailed over his chest and he could tell something was working behind her eyes, something that might have her questioning their time together. “Don’t do that, Janie,” He told her, hoping she wasn’t going to leap off his lap and run for the hills. The idea that he couldn’t have more time with her troubled him. Would she even want to see him past the week?

“This thing between us wasn’t supposed to happen,” she whispered. “It was supposed to be sex once and that was it. Now”—she meet his gaze— “maybe it’s just me, but it feels like something more.”

He knew what she meant this time. He’d felt it, too. In all his thirty years, he hadn’t desired a woman the way he did Janie. Their connection had been unavoidable, even when they tried to remain apart. Something greater than either of them seemed to influence them back together. Truthfully, he didn’t exactly know what she was to him, but she was more than he’d ever imagined she’d be.

“Let’s not think too much about that now. Let’s just enjoy each other.” He brushed his thumb over her lower lip. “I like being with you, Janie. Don’t pretend you don’t like being with me, too.”

She poked him in the ribs. “I do. That’s the problem. You were supposed to be a stuck-up jerk.” She weaved her fingers through his hair and gripped it a fierce hold. “Not someone I can’t stop wanting.”

She kissed him hard, anchoring herself to him. He tossed her to her back and drove his cock deep inside her. Her feet dug into his buttocks and he thrust hard, driving them both over the edge in a matter of time. They made love like that for hours, before she had no other choice but to get ready for work. Victor led her into the shower and took his time washing their bodies. Then they dressed and headed up to Iron Horse. On the motorcycle, she wrapped her arms so tightly around him that it was hard to breathe. But he loved it way too much to complain.

“Well. Well. Well,” a voluptuous redhead muttered, as he parked his motorcycle. She swept her gaze over the bike with interest. “Janie, you didn’t tell me you had a new friend. Nice ride.”

“Hey, Brynn,” Janie said, pulling off her motorcycle helmet. “Thanks, but it’s his bike. Victor Cadwell, this is Brynn Wilson.”

“Nice to meet you Victor.” She shook his hand and then looked back at Janie. “You working tonight?”

She nodded. “Yep.” She glanced down at her watch. “In fact, I’m a minute late.” Janie turned and kissed him, as if it was something they always did when she went to work. Brynn grinned at him and slowly followed Janie into the restaurant.

He wasn’t sure if Janie would mind him popping in, but he was starving, and it was a restaurant, after all.

“Janie, the guy you rode like an Iron Horse the other night is sitting at the bar.” Layton told Janie with a crooked grin. “It would seem you’re doing something right because he’s back for more.”

“He never left,” Brynn corrected, leaning on the bar to sneak a beer. “She was riding him before work.” She looked at Janie. “I’m only assuming that’s why he brought you here.”

Layton’s eyes rounded. “Oh, my God, I’m so jealous. What I wouldn’t give to have a hot guy like that grease my engine.”

“What are you two, sisters? Stop harassing me. Victor’s nice,” Janie said, feeling a pinch of something exciting in her belly.

“Oh, shit,” Brynn grumbled. “He’s nice.”

“You know what that means,” Layton asked.

  “Yep, she likes him.”

“Who likes who?” Jace asked, sliding up to the bar with his serving tray.

“Janie likes that lawyer dude,” Layton confirmed, hiking her thumb up over her shoulder in Victor’s direction, before slipping the drinks onto his tray. “He came in to see her.”

Jace’s gaze shifted to the end of the bar. “You don’t say?” He arched a brow, his attention now on Janie. “Things have been going well then?”

Janie sighed hard. “You guys are more annoying than constipation. Don’t you have your own sex lives to get caught up in.”

“I can sex my man and hear all about yours without either affecting the other,” Brynn replied.

“Me, too,” Layton said. “Except I’m not getting sexed by anyone.”

Both girls laughed. Janie shook her head, she hadn’t remembered high school being this intrusive.

“What’s everyone standing around for?” Sam asked, stepping up behind the bar.

“Janie’s boyfriend’s here,” Jace said with a snicker.

Sam looked toward the end of the bar. “Holy legal battles, Janie. He’s hot.”

Janie’s mouth hung open. “Please. Not you, too.”

“He apparently can’t get enough of our girl here,” Brynn added, sipping her beer. “He brought her to work.” Brynn waggled her eyebrows as if the notion was some secret message.

Sam glared at her. “Did you pay for that?”

  Brynn frowned.

Sam grinned. “Okay, everyone get back to work and stop harassing Janie.”

Brynn scoffed. “I’d never have gotten off that easy. You’ve gone soft.”

“That’s what she said,” Layton added with a hearty laugh.

Brynn, Sam, Janie, and Layton all let out a girlish giggle. Jace rolled his eyes as he took the drinks back to the table.

“You guys need so much help,” Janie said, moving toward Victor.

He smiled as she approached. “Your friends seem to be enjoying themselves.”

Janie groaned. “Technically, they enjoy poking fun at me and my assumed dating life.”

Victor grimaced as if he were in pain. “I’m sorry. I only wanted to grab something to eat before I went back home.”

Janie brushed her teasing friend’s remarks off, her focus only on him. “What can I get for you?”

“I’d kill for a burger and fries.”

  “And to drink?”

“Just a beer,” he said and she instantly popped the top off the brand he’d offered her when she’d first gone to his house.

She put in the order for his food and moved right over to the customers that arrived. Janie took her job seriously, even when she could feel Victor’s gaze on her. She liked that he watched her, liked that he’d come in to eat at the bar when he’d clearly never done so until the first time she’d seen him. When his food was ready, she brought it to him.

“You know, you didn’t have to come in. You could’ve gone to eat anywhere.”

He looked surprised by her statement. “I like burgers and beer.”

Hearing him say he liked burgers didn’t feel right. He’d already shared that he drank beer, but she pictured Victor as an uptown foodie not a bar and grill kind of guy. He was still such a myst
ery to her. “Let me know if there is anything else I can get for you.”

As Victor ate his meal, she popped over to check on him from time to time. He didn’t stay long, but before he left, he reminded her, “I’ll be back at midnight to pick you up?”

She furrowed her brow, realizing that it was going to be so late for him. “I can get one of the girls to run me to my apartment.”

“No. I want to see you again.”

She nibbled her lip as he thoroughly looked her over. She nodded, her mouth dry.

“By the way, the service was the best I’d ever had.” He slid his money across the counter toward her. “Keep the change.”

As he walked out the door, she couldn’t help but ogle his deliciously perfect ass. She shivered as she pictured him naked, drilling inside her pussy until she came. Shaking her head, she had to get those thoughts out her head.

“I’ve seen that look before,” Layton said, sliding her arm around Janie.

  “What look?”

“The one that says you’re way in over your head.”

Janie wasn’t sure what she meant, but she was sure it had to do with the bundle of nerves in her stomach and the tingling messages firing back between her brain and heart—a message of longing that had her looking forward to midnight.

  * * * *

Victor kicked his feet out to the side, resting his ass on his motorcycle saddle. He’d been waiting for Janie for twenty minutes. As it was, he hadn’t been able to sleep for fear he wouldn’t hear his alarm, reminding him that it was time to pick her up.

He hadn’t been this giddy to see a girl since he was in high school. The sensations left him gasping for a deep, calming breath. Nothing eased the excitement that raced through him.

When he finally spotted her and the others leaving the restaurant, she smiled at him. His pulse quickened as she closed the distance between them and he spread his legs to pull her into his arms for a hug. He stood, taking her mouth in a slow, sensual kiss.

She arched a brow as he eased back from her. “Did you miss me?”

“You have no idea.” He mounted his bike, slipping his helmet on.

She tucked her purse into the saddlebag, put her helmet on, and got on the bike behind him. Wrapping her arms around him, he fired up his bike and took her to her apartment. He was pleased when she held him for a moment longer when they parked.

Hopping off the bike, she took off her helmet, and grabbed her things from the saddlebag. “You know, you can come in,” she said, moving to stand beside him.

“I’m afraid if I do, I won’t want to leave,” he admitted, wanting very much to spend the night with her.

She glanced up to her apartment. “It doesn’t look like Josh is home.”

He smiled. “Are you trying to convince me, Janie?”

She nibbled her bottom lip. “Do you need convincing?”

Damn, that was the last thing he needed. His body was already pulsing with the fiery need for her. It would take little effort to rob him of rational thought.

Then it happened—the heated look in her eyes, the curve of her teasing lips, and the sway of her hips as she turned to leave. That was all he needed to give in to his desires. He put down the kickstand, took his helmet off, placed it on the saddle, and rushed up to meet her at her apartment door. She laughed as he crushed up against her, fighting her to get the keys to open the door. He stripped her of everything she held in her hands, tossing it to the chair beside the door and then collected her into his arms to get her into her bedroom as quickly as possible.

He had them both naked in moments and was cradled against her, making love to her with an urgency he couldn’t describe. The night was filled with passion and need and he took everything he could from her and gave her everything he had to offer. That was the way of things between them, the connection that burned hot. For an instant, he could see things between them lasting further than the week and he had every intention of making sure she did, too.

  Chapter Twelve

“Two dinners down and four business days checked off the to-do-list,” Janie said to Victor as she laid a stack of folders on his desk.

She squealed as Victor grabbed her wrist and pulled her around his desk. “Are you so eager to get rid of me?” he asked, as she stumbled onto his lap.

She squirmed, trying to get off of him. “Someone will see us,” she whispered, whirling her head to look back at the window. Thankfully, no one saw them.

“It’s my office,” he reminded her. “If I want my assistant on my lap I’ll do just that.”

Janie laughed. “I’ll be sure to give Ruth a heads up when she returns on Monday.”

Victor chuckled. “I was only referring to you, smart ass.” He weaved his fingers through her hair and tugged her down for a kiss. “All week long, I’ve had this fantasy of you coming to me in my office. You sit on my desk, spread your legs for me, and reveal that you’re not wearing any panties.”

“You have?” she asked, dragging her lips over his, getting lost in the way his mouth worked over hers. Her nipples beaded with the desire that plagued her.

“Hm,” he moaned, sliding his hand up her thigh, his mouth on her neck.

She parted her legs for him, giving him access to the heat that pooled between her legs. She arched back as his finger teased over her clit and sank deep inside her. His phone rang, startling her back to focus on business. She pressed her hand over the top of his to stop it from teasing her any further. “Now is not the time for this. I’m sure the person calling is the receptions alerting you to your three o’clock appointment.”

  He grimaced. “Cancel it?”

She arched a brow, shifting her weight off his lap. “No. Now fix that,” she told him, pointing to the obvious outline of his erection. “I’ll have your client in the conference room in ten minutes.”

Before she could reach the door to leave, Victor muttered, “I’d rather fuck you on my desk.”

  She laughed. “I heard that.”

“Good,” he said with a mock pout. “I meant for you to.”

The rest of the day flew by and the client dinner went without a hitch. Again she was blown away by Victor’s confidence and his insane legal knowledge. The man knew how to impress, not just her, but anyone he came into contact with.

Over the course of the week, she’d watched him transition into someone she hadn’t expected to see. Somehow, he made her like him, really like him. She didn’t want the week to end.

“Why are you frowning like that?” he asked, slanting a look in her direction.

  “I’m not frowning,” she argued.

He pretended to push the intercom button in the back of the limo. “Driver, take us to the hospital immediately. I think my dates having a stroke. The muscles in her face are sliding downward.”

She glared at him. “Ha. Ha.” Then she realized what he’d said and she moved to her knees, hiking up her skirt enough to straddle his lap. His eyes went wide. “Date, huh?”

Moisture pooled between her legs as his smile turned buttery smooth and sexy. “I’ve been dating you all week, Janie. You just didn’t realize it.”

“Oh,” she breathed, kissing him. “I thought we were just having sex.”

“Great sex,” he added. “But surely you’ve noticed that it’s become so much more than that.”

There was no mistaking the lust that fired up so easily between them—the attraction to him was unlike anything she’d ever experienced in her life. The way he touched her, kissed her, everything about him set her body blazing with need. No matter how often she reminded herself that it was only for the week, she couldn’t fight the whispers of wanting more. She’d always assumed it was just a work thing.

“Our week together is up,” she told him, hating it more than she realized. “I’m no longer your assistant.”

Brushing back her hair, he cupped her face. “This thing between us doesn’t have to end, Janie.”

She studied him. “Are you serious?

“I told you that I already considered us dating. Why not continue?”

As much as he had upset her in the beginning, none of that mattered now. He wasn’t the same person she had assumed he was and they connected on a leave she never imagined they would. He was not only handsome, but charming as hell. He drove her wild with just a look and effortlessly turned her inside out.

“Okay,” she whispered. “I’d like to continue dating you.”

He kissed her hard as he unzipped her dressed, sliding it from her arms to free her breasts. He laid her on the seat and began making love to her, slowly stripping away her clothing.

She lost her breath as he settled between her legs, lapping at her wetness. He feverishly tasted her, slipping his finger inside her. When she came, she cried out, not caring that the limo driver would know exactly what they were doing. She didn’t care. All she cared about was feeling Victor. Every inch of him.

He went to his knees, slipped a condom over his cock and pulled her to the edge of the seat to shove inside her pussy. She clawed at him, tearing his jacket off his body. He didn’t have time to get his clothing off. He groaned as he found his release.

Still inside her, he pressed his forehead against hers as they both caught their breaths. “Sex with you only gets better.”

  She smiled, agreeing fully.

  * * * *

Victor never would’ve believed he’d find a woman like Janie to care for. That wasn’t supposed to be his fate. He’d been career focused all his adult life and never wanted to get close to someone—need another person. Growing up with shitty parents that did nothing but give him life and send him out into the world alone, had made him want nothing to do with finding love. For far too long, he didn’t even think he knew what that was.

Janie had been a pleasant surprise, one he never expected.

Over the last month, he’d spent every available moment with her. She’d even joined him for client dinners, as his date, not his assistant. He’d come to love having her fall asleep at his place and wake up beside him. She taken on another contract position and was still juggling two jobs. He wanted so badly to help her financially—money was the one thing he had plenty of.
