A Wolf's Life Page 9

Maxwell stared at the man, waited for him to be kidding, and when he was sure it wasn't about to happen, he felt a sudden surge of pride.

"You're telling me you were a virgin?"

Noah shook his head. "No, not a virgin, but you were the first to ever…you know, do that."

Maxwell swallowed, the lump in his throat very real. "Have you ever been with another male?"

  Noah shook his head. "No."

So only women then. Had Maxwell known that, he might have tried coming into this with a little more care. He would have done his best to not be so rough.

He'd tried to be gentle in the beginning, but he knew full well he could have done better.

Maxwell groaned, his heart expanding, ready to burst. "I swear if I could, I would stay in bed with you all day. I wouldn't leave these sheets after you tell me something like that."

Noah's expression was understanding. "But you have to go and take care of your pack. I understand."

"I swear to you"—Maxwell took Noah's hand—"I will be back as soon as I can. I will not leave you for long."

Noah pushed himself up, and in that moment, with their legs touching, their scents intermingling, it was perfect.

Noah touched his arm. "Take care of your pack first. Don't worry about me and don't hurry until you're finished with your responsibilities. That's all I want."

But there was more he wanted. Maxwell could see it in his eyes. Noah was a good man, however. He didn't want to take attention away from others who might need it.

  Maxwell’s pack.

Maxwell kissed him hard on the mouth. A chaste kiss, but he needed it. He needed to kiss this man to give himself something to remember and look forward to in the hours Maxwell would be separated from him.

“We’ll be on the same territory, but it will feel like a world apart.”

Noah’s eyes shone. “Right. Go and take care of business before you make me cry or something.”

Maxwell did as he was told.

He and his wolf would have many years to get used to obeying commands such as that from their mate.
