Rounding down the last hill, the outline of the bus stop came into view. It wasn’t the structure that caught Katrina’s eye, instead it was the reflection of the red sun’s setting rays reflecting off the side mirror of the truck coated in ash below. She took off running without warning, leaving the rest of the group to catch up.
Katrina was jumping up and down when she reached the vehicle causing James to laugh as he came up behind her.
“I take it this is good news?” he asked her. She hugged him and started wiping the ash off the windows.
“It’s locked,” Jayden said with a confused expression on his face while he was trying to pull the handles.
Katrina’s smile grew bigger. “Under the frame by the left back tire there is a box.”
Dreya pulled the magnetic box off the frame. She opened it and the key fell out. “How did you know this would be here?” Dreya walked over to hand her the key.
“It’s my dad’s truck,” Katrina laughed and unlocked the driver side door. “He left it here for me.”
