network of steam tunnels. By policy the tunnels were secured to keep students out and thus, the zombies were kept out too.”

Kim walked Jared through the tunnels, explaining how they were able to access all of the buildings on campus. They hadn't used the tunnels when they were scavenging supplies, but they would serve as an escape route if necessary and provided access to the men's dorm.

Jared asked, “But I thought the men's dorm was over-run?”

“It was,” replied Kim, “and that's why we're using it.” Kim explained that the damage done to the men's dorm was now perfect camouflage. Hopefully the burnt out shell would discourage potential looters from taking the time to investigate it.

The first two floors of the men's dorm had been gutted by both fire and violence. Kim's group had demolished the stairs and added the stairs bulk to rubble of the men's foyer. The emergency stairs were untouched, but the doors to the first and second floor were welded shut like they were in Kim's dorm. Kim told Jared that they had charred the exterior sections of the doors in an effort to make it seem as if the fire had raged inside the emergency stairwells as well.

Kim took Jared up to the third floor of the men's dorm. It looked like it had been burned out and vandalized, but as Kim walked Jared through, he showed him how they had stashed back-ups of essential supplies, cleverly hidden in debris, derelict furniture and hidden alcoves throughout the floor. They had even gone so far as to seal off and conceal a room just in case they needed a hide out from raiders or something worse. The room held numerous weapons and piles of ammunition. Jared saw his Glock and mini-14 rifle were now setting in the room on a dusty couch.

Finished with the tour, Kim brought Jared back to the women's dorm. On the way back he explained that they avoided firearms of any kind, preferring instead to use the bows and arrows they'd recovered from the outdoor recreation department.

Back with the rest of the group Kim asked, “So what do you say? Are you staying? Cause if you don't...” Kim paused and didn't finish his sentence.

“Hell yeah I'm staying,” answered Jared, “Sign me up.”
