The Days of Elijah, Book Two: Wormwood: A Novel of the Great Tribulation in America Page 23

by Mark Goodwin

Kevin cracked a smile and removed the sling of the rifle from off of his shoulder. “No. We just haven’t had many visitors. Being the Apocalypse and all, you never know who is going to pop around.”

The old man chuckled at Kevin’s response.

Elijah brought some water and an MRE. “You must be famished. Haven’t you any water at all?”

The man took the cup and drank deeply. He shook his head. “I ran out yesterday.” He took another drink. “All the water, the streams, lakes, and ponds, it’s poison.”

Courtney smiled politely at Elijah. “We introduced ourselves, but we didn’t catch your friend’s name.”

Elijah chuckled. “Oh, forgive me. How rude of me. This is Moses.”

Everett felt his head getting light and quickly found a bucket to sit on. He’d read enough of the Bible to know exactly who he’d just been introduced to. Courtney took a seat also. Kevin and Sarah stood with their mouths hanging open. No one said anything.

Everett took a deep breath, regained his composure and extended his hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir.”

Moses quickly shook Everett’s hand and tore into the MRE. “Yes, likewise. Elijah, might I have another cup of water? It seems I’ve worked up quite a thirst with all that digging.”

“Of course, old friend. And don’t fill up on that MRE. We shall have a grand feast tonight. We will celebrate, eat, dance, and talk. We have quite a bit of catching up to do.”

Moses continued eating. “That sounds wonderful. Tonight, we will celebrate. But soon, you and I have business which we must attend to.”

Courtney and the others snapped out of their initial shock. Each of them shook hands with Moses and thanked him repeatedly for digging them out of the cave.

Everett’s face softened, and he smiled gently. The coming of Moses was nothing less than a miracle. They would still have to shelter in the cave until the rest of the arsenic had cleared out of the atmosphere, but knowing that they weren’t trapped brought a magnificent feeling of relief.

Everett experienced an extraordinary sense of honor at being granted the opportunity to meet Moses. Yet he also knew the encounter would prove to be bittersweet. Moses was not just stopping by for a visit. He had come to take Elijah to Jerusalem with him. Everett recognized that the clock was ticking. He was spending his final days with the old prophet who had become like a father to him. Elijah had been their spiritual leader for the past three years. And now, when the worst part of the tribulation was just around the corner, on their very doorstep, Elijah would no longer be there.

Everett wondered if he would have the faith to endure the final trumpet judgments and terminal phase of the Great Tribulation, the Vials of Gods Wrath.

  Don’t Panic!

Inevitably, books like this will wake folks up to the need to be prepared, or cause those of us who are already prepared to take inventory of our preparations. New preppers can find the task of getting prepared for an economic collapse, EMP, or societal breakdown to be a source of great anxiety. It shouldn’t be. By following an organized plan and setting a goal of getting a little more prepared each day, you can do it.

I always try to include a few prepper tips in my novels, but they’re fiction and not a comprehensive plan to get prepared. Now that you’re motivated to start prepping, the last thing I want to do is leave you frustrated, not knowing what to do next. So I’d like to offer you a free PDF copy of The Seven Step Survival Plan.

For the new prepper, The Seven Step Survival Plan provides a blueprint that prioritizes the different aspects of preparedness and breaks them down into achievable goals. For seasoned preppers who often get overweight in one particular area of preparedness, The Seven Step Survival Plan provides basic guidelines to help keep their plan in balance and ensures they’re not missing any critical segments of a well-adjusted survival strategy.
