“Ahh, I can always count on you to be on time,” a tall, handsome white man said.
“Is this your lawyer?” I asked Gee as we followed him to the back.
“Yes. His name is Mr. Brewster. Get acquainted with him. He will be a big part of your life for the next three years if this goes accordingly.”
“Have a seat,” Mr. Brewster said as we walked into his office. He shut the door.
“This is Diamond?”
“Yes,” Gee responded as he sat next to me. If I would have known we would be doing this meeting today, I would have put on something more than a tank top and red skinny jeans.
“The soon to be wife. Hello.” Brewster extended his hand for me to shake.
“Hello.”
“That was fast. How did you find her?” he asked Gee.
“She was my maid.”
“You do know that this is only temporary? Did Gee explain?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“Only a small portion,” Gee added.
“Well, let me get this contract and explain.” He began to go through his files as Gee went through his texts.
He was always on his phone. I looked out the window at all the nice cars that passed by, hoping that one day it could be me riding in the Ferrari that I’d just seen pass by.
“I’ll call you back, Kasha,” Gee whispered into the phone like it wasn’t just us three in the room.
“Okay, first off, you will have to put your name on anything that Gee owns, so it will appear that you two are actually in this together.”
“Wait, but my things are in my aunt’s name,” Gee said.
“Well, that’s why we’re having this meeting. Soon, very soon, everything you own will need to be in your name and your wife’s name,” Brewster said.
I smiled at hearing him call me Gee’s wife. It sounded good.
“What else?” Gee asked with his hand rubbing his face.
“You two also need to be on the same phone plan.”
“Okay…”
“No sex,” Brewster said with his eyes heavily on Gee and I. He stared at us. “Understood?” he asked me.
“Yes. Of course.”
“Good. And I don’t know if you were aware that you’re going to have to birth my client’s baby.”
“What?!” Gee and I asked in unison. Distress was in his voice.
“Yes. By artificial insemination.”
“Is this necessary?” Gee asked.
“It’s not, but if you want this to look real, I’d do it. Come on, they just threatened to have you out of here. You think they don’t know what your next move is?”
“So, if they want me gone that bad, they will do it anyway… right?”
“They have rules that they too have to follow. If you have a child and want to marry the mother, they can’t fault you for that. This child will just insure that if all else fails, you still have that child with the woman that you married. You could fight it if they try to deny citizenship. But only that child will put you two steps ahead of them. I know this is a lot to take in, but how bad do you want to be here peacefully and own your business?”
Gee looked at me. “What do you think?”
“As long as I’m not stuck raising a child alone.”
“But, Brewster, I don’t even have a kid with Kasha. I don’t have one at all.”
“They don’t care about Kasha. According to them, Kasha doesn’t even exist. Your wife does,” he said, pointing at me.
“So, what else?”
“Must not end the marriage before the three and a half years is up. Must attend counseling three days a week for six months. Must be confidential…” He went on and on.
I tuned him out until he finally said what my payments would be. Gee would have to buy me the apartment of my choice and pay the rent and utilities. He also had to pay me five grand a month. He couldn’t go over that because Brewster basically said I might get greedy and leave, and they couldn’t have that.
The meeting went on for two hours before I finally signed my papers. Though I didn’t agree with what was being said, what choice did I have? I wasn’t just living for me. I had Rena depending on me and then I had dragged Red into this mess. But I knew she would be happy to marry Yazz. I just wish I could be there to see the look on her face when Brewster explained the no sex part.

“Are you okay?” Gee asked on the way back to my apartment.
“Yes. Why do you ask?”
“I know this is a lot, but I promise it will be fine. I will never violate you or do anything that you don’t want. So if you don’t want the baby, let me know, and I can find a new girl.”
“I signed the contract.”
“I just don’t want you to think that if you don’t marry me, I won’t help you. I mean… I won’t do all the things that I have agreed to on the contract, but I will still help you with a new car and finding a better job.”
“It’s fine, Gee.”
“Okay. I will sign for the marriage papers later today and we will start the classes next week.”
“About that… I have a job and I have to look out for Rena. Who’s going to watch her with Red and me at counseling? And how are we going to work jobs?”
“Red can do counseling on different days. On the days that you go, she can watch Rena. And I’ve decided that you shouldn’t work while in the beginning stages of this. These are the most crucial times and I can’t have you stuck in traffic while we have a counseling session,” he said.
We shared a laugh.
“Right.”
“My lawyer got you set. It’s not like you have bills. I pay the bills and pay you monthly. What else do you want?” he asked.
“What about Kasha?”
“Kasha has no clue of this and I would like to keep it that way. You cool with that?”
“Sure.” How was I the side bitch and his wife all in one? This was some weird ass shit.
“So are we supposed to be married before or after this six month counseling?”
“After. They won’t grant the license until we’re done and approved. Crazy, right?”
“Yeah, real crazy.”
“Since it’s still early, I’m just going to go and put our name on everything now. If that’s okay with you.”
“It’s fine.”
“You don’t talk much,” he said as he looked over at me.
“I don’t have much to say.”
“Well, I’ve solved most of your problems in one day. That’s a good thing, right?” he asked.
“I guess so,” I lied, looking out the window. My financial problems were somewhat solved. Spiritually, I felt so empty inside.
Chapter Nineteen
Yazz
“No sex?” I asked Brewster as he explained the contract to Red and I.
“This is strictly business, Yazmine. It’s for the best,” Brewster said as he lowered his glasses and looked over at me.
I looked over at Red, who wasn’t even paying us any mind. I looked down and saw her on her phone searching for BMWs in New York City. I then let my eyes travel to her round breasts and her Red box braids that were now in a bun. Her lips looked like they would feel real nice around my dick.
“Nah,” I said.
“What?”
“Take that part out,” I said as I let my eyes travel to Red. She still wasn’t paying attention.
“Yazmine. Trust me, sex will complicate things. I know what I’m talking about.”
“Cool, scratch that part out though.”
He took a deep breath and shredded the contract. “I have it saved on my desktop, so I’ll just go in, erase that part, and print it out again,” he said while shaking his head.
Red and I not having sex was simply not happening. As a matter of fact, if she was with it, I was hitting that tonight. And I wasn’t taking no for an answer. Not like she would tell me no. I could see right through her.
As Brewster drew up the contract, I watched her every
move. Studying her face and anxious about how she looked when a big dick was all inside of her. Would her face change? How would it change?
“All done. Do I need to go over it again?” Brewster asked both of us.
“Nope,” Red said.
“So, you do listen?” Brewster asked in laughter.
“I mean… I’m cool with everything, as long as I’m getting paid.”
“Any questions, Yazmine?” Brewster asked.
“Nah.”
“Well enough.” He gave us the paper for each of us to sign and we were on our way.
“You hungry?” I asked Red as we stepped into the elevator.
“Yep,” she said as she leaned against the rail and texted.
I took her phone.
“Who you texting?” I asked. Not really giving a fuck, just playing around.
She laughed and snatched her phone back. “When you start paying this phone bill, you can ask me that,” she said as the elevator opened and let us off.
We then walked outside to my Infiniti Coupe, I opened the door to let her in. “Thanks, Pa,” she said with a cheesy grin. Red reminded me of Frizzy. Except Frizzy was chocolate like me. Red had a red skin tone. That had to be where she got her name and style from.
“I like your little short ass,” I said as I slid into my car.
“Tell me something I don’t know,” she shot back as she let her seat back and put her foot up. I smiled and sped off onto the main street. “So why did you tell Brewster to take that part out?” she asked.
“Why you think?”
“You wanna see how I’m coming with it?” she asked with a smile.
“Shid, you coming with it?” I asked, winking at her.
“Uh uh, nigga. You gotta marry me first,” she said, being sarcastic.
We both burst into laughter.
“So you got a little sense of humor, I see. You know a nigga marrying you. I have to,” I said as we stopped at a red light.
“Why me?”
“What?”
“Like, why you and ya bro choose me and my girl. I’m sure bitches would be all over this opportunity.”
“It was a last minute thing, and bitches would mark us off as crazy if we just randomly asked bitches to marry us in NYC.”
“I know you got a few women you deal with out here,” she said.
“Yeah, but they all mad at me.”
“Why?”
“They get dick whipped and start acting crazy. I can’t have none of them bitches with my life in their hands. Feel me?”
“That’s a damn shame,” she said as she laughed and shook her head.
“What’s a shame?”
“What about Gee? Why didn’t he use Kasha or someone else?”
“Kasha lives in Paris. And Gee? That man is crazy in love. I damn near had to threaten him to get him to do this.”
“Thanks for looking out for us like y’all did, by the way. I thought we were about to die in that alley,” she said as she finally put her phone into her bag.
“No problem. One thing I can’t stand is men who rape women. I got a strong hatred for them. On my island, we cut their dicks off and let them live without it.”
“Damn.”
“Exactly.”
“So I was texting Diamond and we decided that we would like to continue living together. We just want a bigger place. She’s going to need help with Rena.”
“Gee and I figured you two would decide on that. That’s cool. So what do you want to eat?” I asked her.
“Hmmm. It doesn’t matter.”
“Don’t start this shit.”
She laughed. “What?”
“Give me a specific answer.”
“White Castle.”
“Cool. White Castle it is.”
“Yazz?”
“Yo.”
“Since this isn’t a real marriage, I wanted to let you know that I indeed am going to have other guy friends.”
I shrugged. “And I indeed don’t give a fuck. Long as that shit tight and right when I wanna slide in it.”
“If you’re serious about wanting to fuck me, I better not ever miss a bill, and I better have the car that I want. And I bet not step foot into another job.”
“Damn, you mean business, huh?” I asked.
“So what’s up?”
“No wife of mine gonna be out here struggling.”
“That’s all I need to hear.”
“You serious as hell.” I laughed.
“Yeah, because being broke ain’t a joke. Especially in NYC. And I can’t go back home and leave Diamond here.”
“That’s cool. Like I was saying, you can have your little boyfriends, but that pussy need to be right when it’s my turn,” I said as I slid my hand on her thigh.
She smiled. “Yes, dear.”
Chapter Twenty
Patricia
The sun pierced through my drapes, causing me to squint. The first thing I did was roll over to kiss my man, but he wasn’t there.
“Typical Davinchi shit,” I said to myself as I yanked the covers off of me and stood up to stretch.
I found it weird that he actually stayed here last night. Or did he? Did he leave after I fell asleep?
A knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts.
“Who’s there?” I yelled from my closet as I peeped through my scarce wardrobe to see what I would wear today.
“Skata! Come on, girl! Open the damn door. I’m itching in this dirty ass hallway!”
I laughed as I went to open the door. “Shut up, whining and shit.”
“So ya moms came and got you, huh?” she asked as she came inside and sat on the couch.
“As always. You know she was getting on my ass, though.”
“So where Davinchi at?”
“Hell, you tell me. Woke up and that nigga was ghost.”
“So he came by here last night?”
“Yep.”
“Whatever. Let’s go to the block today. I heard Queens gonna be poppin’ later.”
“Yeah? What’s going down?”
“That nigga Mazi throwing a block party. Know his shit always lit,” she said as she threw her quick weave up in a messy bun.
“Mazi?”
“You remember Mazi. The dude that be rapping and shit.”
“Ohhhh, Mazi. Right,” I said as I walked into my room to grab my towel so I could prepare to shower.
Of course I knew who Mazi was, but I’m not sure if he remembered me. We fucked around a couple years back, but shit ended quicker than it started.
It was a Saturday night and I was chilling with Seeka. We were drunk as hell after the Summer Jam and wasn’t ready to go home. Needless to say, we wanted some dick, so we went to Queens where the fine niggas used to be over in Ozone Park.
“Stop at Mobil. I wanna get some cigarettes,” Seeka said.
During this time, my mom had let me push her brand new Lexus, and I wanted to stunt on bitches. The attention at Summer Jam wasn’t enough. It was too many bad bitches in the building, so that’s another reason why we came to Ozone. It was nothing but niggas there.
“You need to leave them cancer sticks alone. Ya teeth already looking mad dingy,” I joked as I turned onto Hillside Avenue.
“Whatever.”
When I parked the car, she got out. The line was long because the block was packed, and it seemed like the whole Queens had decided on this one gas station.
“Yo, nigga, you killed that shit, son,” I heard a male voice say.
I turned around and saw that it was Mazi and his crew. Mazi was an up and coming rapper who was reppin’ Queens. He stood at about 5’9”, brown skin, kinda chubby, and had a nappy ass afro. But he was still cute. Everybody in New York knew that this kid was up next. His raps were too hot to touch. He even had the hit radio show, The Breakfast Club, talking about him on the radio.
“Yo, the crowd went crazy, B,” Mazi said as him and his mans did a custom handshake and walked into the
gas station.
Knowing that this would be my only chance to get the attention of Mazi, I fixed my make-up and stepped out. I had on red shorts with a blue shirt. My shoes were red, white and blue, so I knew my colorful ass would get his attention.
“What you doing?” Seeka asked me when I walked in. The line was mad long, so I had no intention of actually buying anything.
“Which way did Mazi go?” I asked her loudly.
The store was so crowded, I don’t even think anyone heard me speaking. It was loud ass bitches all in my ear yelling at their bad ass kids to sit down somewhere.
“Mazi here?” Seeka asked.
“Yeah, he just walked in,” I said as we both began to look around.
“Right there.” She pointed at him and his crew back by the sodas.
“I’ll be back,” I said as I walked to the back. I had to hurry up before other people started to notice he was in the joint.
“Excuse me,” I said as I walked in front of him and bent down to grab a Pepsi.
“Damn, baby,” he said as he palmed my ass.
“Keep ya hands to yourself,” I said with a sly grin on my face, and acted like I was about to walk to the line.
“Yo, hold up, ma,” Mazi said as he put his items on a random aisle and jogged after me.
“What?”
“Yo, where you headed?” he asked.
“Me and my girl ’bout to go home and chill. What’s good?”
“Shit, come home with me.” Bingo! But you know I had to play hard to get.
“Nah, I really have to go.”
He grabbed my hand as I tried to walk away. “Tell ya girl you gonna be with Mazi tonight. I’m sure she won’t trip.”
“Who’s Mazi?” I asked.
“Come on, B. You know who I am. Don’t do that.”
“So you’re Mazi.”
“Yep, I’m Mazi. Mazi is me.”
“Where ya crib at?” I asked.
“I can drive you there.”
“Not with all them niggas tagging along.”
“We came in separate cars, ma. I only got my brother with me. The rest of them niggas in that Toyota.” He pointed to a white Toyota that sat beside his Red Maserati.
