“I love you so much, Freda,” he said.
“I love you like all the stars in the heavens, my dear mate.”
He pulled back and thrust again, pushing her desire over the edge until she climaxed in a blinding white explosion. She couldn't get enough of her mate. She knew that forever they would be like this, closer than humanly possible, bound by a connection that was deeper and broader than the universe itself. Beyond time and space and all existence.
The only thing that mattered was them, together. As he exploded inside her and shot his seed deep into her womb, she could feel it swimming furiously toward her eggs. As he withdrew and held her close in the dim light of his bedroom, Freda knew that her children would soon fill her belly with new life.
A few weeks later, she visited the medical bay for an exam with Sysko, waiting impatiently to learn if they had conceived. She knew in her heart that she had, but she needed the confirmation from the medical technician.
The technician ran her bloodwork over a scanner plate and the results came up on a holographic screen. She was still learning to read written Draxos and could not make out what the results said. The technician read silently and smiled.
“Admiral. Dr. Hayes,” he said. “You have conceived,”.
Freda and Sysko jumped to their feet and pulled each other into a hard embrace. Tears streamed down Freda's face. She was so happy she could barely breathe.
“Don't cry, my darling,” Sysko said. “This is wonderful news.
“I know it is Sysko, but I just can't help it. I never thought I wanted children so much. But after Violet came into being, I realized how special it is to create new life and bring it into the world.”
They gathered the crew together, Violet, Danny and all the androids, Joon, his family, and hers to tell them the good news. They had everyone up on a holographic screen as they stood holding hands on the bridge.
Freda said, “Sysko and I are with child.”
There was a collective cheer from the family and the tears began to well in Freda's eyes again.
“Are you coming home to earth?” her mother asked.
“Are you coming home to Draxos?” his mother asked at the same time.
Everyone laughed and Freda shook her head.
“No, I will remain with Sysko, and we will give birth to our babies in space.”
“Are you sure that's wise?” his father asked.
“It's what we have decided, and it is what I will stand by,” Sysko said.
“We are space dragons,” Freda said. “What better place to give birth to our hatchlings than in space?”
Chapter 30
After many months of travel and gestation, Freda lay in her nest in her dragon form, her mind had melded with the mind of her beast and she had become a whole new creature. She’d become as much a dragon as human now. It was a beautiful feeling that accompanied an even more beautiful one, the creation of her precious, beautiful eggs.
Five black and white speckled eggs rested against her chest as she curled around them in her nest. The day they began to hatch, Sysko, the medical technicians, Violet and the androids gathered around to watch. One by one, the eggs cracked open, revealing tiny little space dragons inside.
When they had all hatched and emerged from their eggs, she found out that she had given birth to three female Draxos hatchlings and two males. After the babies finally had their first meal, Freda decided to shift to speak to Sysko for the first time since she taken to dragon form.
“What shall we name them?” she asked him.
“We should name them after my grandparents on my mother's side,” he said.
“I agree, and we should name them after my grandparents as well.”
“Faya. El’clar. Misha.”
“Hector. Isabella.”
After the babies’ names had been decided, Freda shifted back into dragon form and took her place with her hatchlings in the nest. As the weeks went by, they grew stronger with each passing day. When the hatchlings had their first shift into bipedal form, Freda took her human form again and began to nurse them with the milk from her breasts.
The babies were then moved from the nest to cribs and swaddled in their bipedal baby form. Sysko and Freda stood together in the nursery as Violet and the androids gathered around, cooing at their new siblings.
Sysko kissed the top of her head as they stood together, one big happy family, with their android children and their dragon babies. Her heart burst with joy as the Draxos armada traveled deep into uncharted space in search of the last vestiges of the cyborg threat.
If anyone could take down the enemy once and for all, it was her and her beloved space dragon.
