Who I Am With You
Page 16
“Stop looking at me like that, Dallas. I have three hours before you can come anywhere near me with that tongue of yours and the way you’re looking right now, it’s pure torture.”
“We can sneak off and I’ll take care of that right away,” I huskily whisper into her ear before she shoves me away.
“Stop trying to tempt me, Devil,” she laughs as she walks toward the barn where everyone is gathering to celebrate our joining, but I’d much rather be celebrating in our bedroom because that’s where we will really become one.
After three hours of pure torture, okay, maybe not torture, but holding Kennedy in my arms and smiling and enjoying our company, I’m thankful when they all leave. Because now, I get to show my woman exactly how much she means to me.
Walking over to her, I swoop her up in my arms. “Say goodnight, Casey.” I growl into her ear.
“Goodnight, Casey.” She repeats like a good girl.
I smile as she looks into my eyes. Carrying her into the house, I lock the door before taking the stairs two at a time. “Kennedy Garrison, I’m about to show you exactly why you’re using my last name now.”
“Please,” she murmurs and that’s the last thing that came from her mouth other than the incoherent moans and screams for the rest of the night.
If over a year ago someone would have told me I’d be this happy in life, I wouldn’t have believed them. Because I never believed my world would come back to me. She did and now my life is finally complete. As my beautiful wife snores softly beside me and my baby moves under my hand that rests on Kennedy’s stomach, I know that my axis has finally straightened and my life isn’t being lived out of orbit. I’ve found exactly who I am and it’s all because of her.
Epilogue
I never expected to be back in Texas, married to Dallas Garrison and getting ready to bring Abigail Marie Garrison into the world. I was a bitter woman, who used men to get what I wanted, because in reality my heart had always belonged to Dallas.
I never thought that I would be thankful that God intervened in my life. That deer in the road could be said to be an accident, but I call it divine intervention. I was traveling a path that was going to leave me alone. Even Casey was getting to the point where she wouldn’t have been able to be there for me. I was an evil and bitter woman, even if I was kind and compassionate with my employees.
“Kennedy, you’re nine centimeters now. We are almost there. You ready?” Dr. Chauvin’s voice comes to my ears, taking me away from the thoughts I had. Her kind brown eyes are peeking out from the mask she’s wearing and she winks as if she knows my thoughts.
“Let’s do this,” Dallas’ voice is filled with excitement as he grabs my hand. He’s bouncing up and down with joy and I’m trying with all my might not to cuss him out.
“I’m ready,” I exhale loudly. He leans down and kisses my forehead but I shove him away. “You did this to me! Don’t touch me. I’m. Not. Going. Through. This. Again.” I hiss as a nurse takes my leg.
“Now Daddy, we are going to need you to lift that other leg of hers. That epidural has it feeling a lot like dead weight and she doesn’t know how to hold it herself.”
Dallas’ face goes to fear as he realizes what’s about to happen. Mom and Darlene are both in the waiting room fuming because I told them I only wanted Dallas here. This is something we need to experience together and not with everyone else. “What if I hurt her?”
“You already DID!” I seethe. “I’m sorry. I just, wow.” I sigh and he just chuckles.
“She won’t feel a thing. Kennedy,” Dr. Chauvin’s eyes meet mine and she gives me a smile that I can only see by the way her eyes are lit up. “You’re going to feel some pressure. When we say push, you push like your life depends on it.”
I shake my head and when they say push, I lean forward, pushing hard until I can’t breathe anymore. I relax on the bed for a second, waiting for another push.
“Holy shit! Here comes a head!” Dallas screams out before his face turns pale and he’s on the floor beside me.
“Daddy down!” My nurse screams out which causes me to laugh. A couple of nurses run in from the station down the hall.
Dallas is still down whenever the doctor tells me to push one final time. Tears fill my eyes as I listen to the cries of my daughter fill the room. I’ve created a life with my husband who is now sitting up off the floor. Once he finally has his bearings and is able to stand on his own, they place Abbi into his arms. Seeing my husband with our daughter and the way his face lights up with pride is enough to make me want twenty more. He looks like this was the job he was meant for – fatherhood. If I’d thought he could never be any more sexy, he proved me wrong with the love shining through his eyes as our daughter wraps her little tiny finger around his bigger one.
I know that I have been blessed beyond measure, because at the end of the day – these two are the most important things in my life. I used to not like who I was, but when it comes to Dallas I’m exactly who I want to be.
